Hey hey we've passed the halfway point of the year and still we have many suggested logos in the hopper. Of course, this one is all me, so... I'm sure this one will be mind-boggingly easy, since I think it's a toughie.
That, and the Mad M's a good deal curlier too I believe.
It does look like it began life as a 'W' rather than being an inverted 'M' but other than that I'm drawing a blank. Not that that proves its difficult or anything of course.
Originally posted by Sec19Row53 I doubt it. The shadow to the left wouldn't be rounded if your guess were right.
Also, that's a proper drop shadow on a "W."
I.e., on a flipped "M" the shadow would be up and to the left.
The font is Copperplate Gothic Thirty-two or Thirty-three, but that family is quite widely used these days (I think it's one of the default TT fonts on Windows, even), so that's not helping much.
So I'm guessing the "160 in 27" is more likely to lead someone to the correct answer.

Hm. I just looked at the letter. I see now there is more in deciphering the origin of the letter than just the design, shadows, background, etc. I'll remember that for next time.

Presuming that "27" meant "27 days" and thinking "160" referred to an anniversary I dutifully hyeaded off to Google. I think I'm right about the meaning but Google is ABSOLUTELY no help. Anything important happen on August 15, 1844?

Well, according to Information Headquarters (informationheadquarters.com), in 1844 the first ever international cricket match was played in New York City. It was between the United States and Canada.

It looks like letter preceding the W is an O. and the closest thing I could come up with is a woman who ate 163 buffalo wings in 30 minutes at the most recent "Wing Bowl" in Philadelphia. The other thing I could come up with is either the Cleveland or St. Louis Browns, since the colors are somewhat similar. But I'm guessing I'm probably way off.

I thought the whole "160 in 27" thing could be about the Olympics, but there's not 160 countries participating, and the games are in 24 days. I thought maybe it was an upside-down M from some Olympics site.

My thoughts included:
(1) the Olympics (2) 160 golfers in the PGA Championship, the final round of which is 27 days from yesterday (but the PGA only allows 150 golfers) (3) 160 (or so) MLB games in a 27 (or so) week season
