I thought they took forever and sucked, and the Boston Celtics made the playoffs with a 36-46 record.

I guarantee you that if a 72-win team has the sixth-best record in the league, I'll take back everything I said good about this.

(BTW, that'll never happen. If the sixth-best team in the AL was 72-90 and ALL eight teams behind them finished 71-91, the five best teams would have to AVERAGE 99 wins. In the NL they'd average 103 wins. Not. Gonna. Happen.)

Right, because god knows finishing in third place out of five teams, which is what the Blue Jays did last year, certainly warrants postseason.

This is just you looking at something one way and me looking at it another. Are you penalizing the Jays for not being in the Central, where they would've been second?

I'm not saying I wouldn't watch it, but over the years, it's going to become LESS exciting when teams only have to be "pretty good" to contend for the playoffs.

I'd argue the opposite. In the NBA (and NHL), the quality of play has gotten better since the last expansion to the point that now there are some VERY GOOD teams (in the West, anyway) that aree battling for the 5th and 6th-seeds. If MLB doesn't do any more expansion for a while I see no reason why that would happen in baseball as well.

What's so wrong with the way it is that this idea should even be discussed, really? Shouldn't they address more pressing matters? Like things that are actually WRONG?

Definitely. However, the way things are and with the MLBPA being so strong that they can fight and likely beat anything that will cap salaries I think this is a reasonable scenario. Saying the Blue Jays don't get in because they finished third in a five-team division is fine, but when their payroll is half the first-place team's and less that two-thirds the second-place team's and they still win 86 games and finish sixth in the league, I'd argue they deserve a CHANCE at the title they aren't getting now. Would a team like the Devil Rays or Brewers making the playoffs as a sixth-seed be anything but GREAT?

The chance to bring tons of people to Florida or San Diego would be lost on having 3 more sellouts in Boston, New York or LA.

As a fan of a team that doesn't make it to the playoffs very regularly, I would gladly have my team play all three playoff games on the road if the second option was to not be in the playoffs at all.

This year the Texas Rangers are in very real contention for a playoff spot. So what happens if we take a slight spin and fall a game or two short of first place...NOTHING. It would be awesome if there was another playoff spot available, even if we had to take it on the road.
