...or close to it. Here goes!

---MOVIES---

Let's start with the good, shall we? George Romero has begun production of LAND OF THE DEAD, part four in his 'DEAD' series. Romero IS writing and directing again so this should NOT suck in the LEAST.

RPG geeks can start holding thier breath because New Line Cinema has acquired the rights to White Wolfs VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE. No writers or cast have been chosen yet.

Warner Brothers has optioned BEOWULF for a feature film. Writer Matthew Sand says he's going for "...as close to the poem as theatrically possible." ...I guess we'll see.

DAMN, blasted comic book geeks! Warner Bros. are ALSO holding off the BATMAN BEGINS trailer two more weeks. It was supposed to get shown before I, ROBOT but they decided to hold back till it gets it's premiere next week at the big San Diego Comic Con.

Just when you thought it was safe to go to the movies again... Thanks to the POLICE ACADEMY films selling WAY better then they had any right to on dvd, Warner/Village Roadshow has begun production on a NEW Police Academy film. I'm as ashamed of buying those now as I hope some of you are...

I try... TRY to stay away from the wrestling forum, so if this has already been mentioned, sorry. What are YOUR favorite EX-WWE stars doing this summer, you ask, well I know what three of them are up to. Bill Goldberg, Kevin Nash, and 'Steve Austin'(Listed as such in the credits) are all filming Adam Sandlers THE LONGEST YARD. I wonder if Goldberg's hurt himself yet... (SORRY!) HOLY CRAP! I can't believe I missed THIS but IMDB says Austin was on an episode of SeaQuestDSV as the US President? Where was I when this happened!

I'm probably the ONLY person on here to care about this, but of all places, the MovieFone website has the exclusive PHANTOM OF THE OPERA trailer. MOVIEFONE! I would have NEVER found it on my own...

In a odd twist, the set of the remake of HOUSE OF WAX burnt down while filming a key ending sequence. Sadly, Paris Hilton was NOT on the set and thankfully no one was hurt.

Let's end this part with more good news. J. Michael Straczynski has announced there is a BABYLON 5 theatrical film in the works titled BABYLON 5: THE MEMORY OF SHADOWS, however, he's in the middle of rewriting it due to actor Richard Biggs's death. Biggs played Dr. Franklin on the series... but if you didn't know he died, I guess this makes this NOT so good news.

---TELEVISION---

The WB, hoping for more comic book hits has ordered a pilot for GLOBAL FREQUENCY, which is a Warren Ellis comic. Michelle Forbes (ST:TNG, HOMICIDE) is set to star in it.

Also comming to the WB this fall is LOIS LANE. SOMEHOW, I guess I missed this as well, Chloe is her cousin and she comes to Smallville to find out what happened when Chloe got blown up in last seasons finale. She's played by Erica Durance.

ENTERPRISE started shooting it's fourth season and NOW we have our reason as to WHY it wasn't cancelled. It's production costs have been lowered to under a million per episode. Lets see if we NOTICE!

In other ENTERPRISE news, Brent Spiner is set to guest star in three episodes as Dr. Noonian Soong, who, as Star Trek fans know, was the 'father' of Data.

Good grief... MORE Star Trek? Well, this could be GOOD though. J. Michael Straczynski has announced that he was asked, along with Bryce Zabel creator of the short lived DARK SKIES, to do a treatment for a new STAR TREK series. This was LAST YEAR. He's finally gotten around to turning it in and there seems to be very high hopes for it.

Wonderfalls is STILL cancelled! (Sorry... I thought that was funny!)

The Buffyverse LIVES! James Marsters announced during an interwiew in Australia that Joss Whedon has asked him to star in one of four... FOUR BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER telefilms. Four films centering on one or two characters each, which would be a pretty nice payday AND send off for the characters, IF it all gets finalized.

---DVD---

LIVE AID, the single largest concert event is FINALLY comming to DVD in a 4 disc boxed set.

Anchor Bay keeps cranking this baby out year after year and SOME asshole keeps buying it. HALLOWEEN, yet again, is gonna be out on dvd. This time as an eight disc boxed set with new extras not on any previous releases. Fucking Anchor Bay!

Universal Studios LOVES you! They've announced the following TV series to be out on dvd by years end... BUCK(MOTHERFUCKING!)ROGERS: The Complete Series!(HELL YEAH!), KNIGHT RIDER: Season One, SLIDERS: Seasons One and Two, THE BIONIC WOMAN: Season One, NIGHT GALLERY: Season One, ALFRED HITCHOCK PRESENTS: Season One, AMAZING STORIES: Season One, DREAM ON: Seasons One and Two, MURDER SHE WROTE: Season One, MIAMI VICE: Season One, MAGNUM PI: Season One, COLUMBO: Season One, LAS VEGAS: Season One, and AMERICAN DREAMS: Season One. Also, The new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is getting a nice three disc boxed set as well. SWEET!

Cool stuff you can look forward to in the next month are as follows...
-MILLENNIUM: Season One
-BOOMTOWN: Season One
-THUNDERBIRDS International Rescue Boxed Set
-COMBAT: Season 1 - Campaign 1
-COMBAT: Season 1 - Campaign 2
-LA FFEMME NIKITA: Season Two
-STARSKY & HUTCH: Season Two
-SOAP: Season Two
-HELLBOY!
-SHOWGIRLS: V.I.P. Edition
-V: The Complete Series
-SLEDGHAMMER!: Season One!
-KILL BILL: VOLUMN 2
-PERDATOR: Special Edition
-Tod Browning's FREAKS
-HAPPY DAY'S: Season One
-LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: Season One
-LATELINE(Al Franken):Complete Series
-DALLAS: Complete First and Second Seasons
-HARSH REALM: The Complete Series(WHY?)
-STAR TREK: TOS - Season One
-VIDEODROME: The Criterion Collection(Interesting...)
-SLACKER: The Criterion Collection(Even more interesting...)
-TOP DOG: The Criterion Collection(Just to see if you're really reading this; JOKE!)
-THX1138: George Lucas Director's Cut (This fuck keeps screwing with all his films, NONE of them will be worth looking at anymore. Why not go back and re-produce RADIOLAND MURDERS right or put out fucking HOWARD THE DUCK on dvd you asshole! He's gone and added a half hour of all new special effects to this movie, fucking up YET ANOTHER good film. I REALLY fucking hate this prick.) (...SORRY!)

---MUSIC---

The only thing of interest for ME really is that Trent Reznor's seemed tohave skipped over the drum machine for his next NIN albumn and is having DAVE GROHL play drums. This COULD be good as it was for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE or it could be HORRIBLE as it was for KILLING JOKE. I'm PRAYING for the first one.

---------------------------------

Sorry for the cursing, but i'm sure atleast 90% of you feel the same way I do about Lucas.

Later!

This makes me so happy. The fact that one of the originators of the zombie genre and the starter of many horror trends could not get funding for a new Dead movie made me sick. I just hope that he gets all the money that he needs and that the movie is more like the first two (Night and Dawn) than the last one (Day). Either way, I'll see it six times or so. It's time that somebody returned and showed people how zombies are supposed to act.

Showgirls VIP Edition? WTF? You can buy the regular one on DVD for six bucks at most chain stores if you look for it. What could they possibly add to it?

Star Trek TOS on DVD is a nice surprise. I didn't even know they were working on this.

What about the rumors of Bryan Singer and his X2 writers "jumping ship" as it were to do the new Superman film? Hopefully those rumors are not true and Singer will do X-men 3.

Last, I heard Bryan didn't accept and with the now public firing of the other Superman director, you have to wonder. However, if Bryan was smart, he'd tell WB to wait till he is done with X3 and X4 which will be shot back to back. Last I heard though, Bryan is signed to do those films and filming starts this year.

That's kind of spotty because he was originally SUPPOSED to start filming on his Logan's Run remake this NOVEMBER set for a 2005 release date. X-men 3 is tentatively scheduled for a May 6th, 2006 release date. AICN reported today that its a done deal that Bryan Singer, Mike Dougherty, and Daniel Harris will all be working on the new Superman film. So I don't know what to think about all of this.

A telefilm is a made for TV movie. For instance, the Nick Fury movie written by David Goyer that was on Fox was a telefilm. Or the Generation X movie on Fox, also a telefilm.

Thanks. I thought it was something like that. I've just never heard that word before. I guess those are those TV movies that was mentioned by the WB instead of Angel being renewed.

It's funny, because according to the WB's president in a recent interview, they didn't want to cancel Angel in the first place. Apparently, Fox asked them to make a decision right then, and right then they weren't ready to commit to a schedule, so they said no.

You know...it sounded more convincing coming from him

D: Bryan Singer (for now); Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, et al...; Cast all but confirmed, Singer involvement depends on commitments to Superman.
May 4, 2007: Spider-Man 3 [Columbia/Sony]
D: Sam Raimi; Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst...; Cast all but confirmed. Additional casting will begin as soon as script is done.

Meantime, Season 4 of Smallville begins on September 22nd. Despite the insanity of the final episode of Season 3 ["Covenant"], the entire cast will return...except for Sam Jones III (Pete Ross), who left after last season. The first two episodes will more or less completely shift the status quo in the series (according to KryptonSite), introducing Lois Lane AND yet another new Lana Lang love interest...who'll probably be dispatched by season's end. And if you're one of those people who think Lois will be another one episode Perry-esque cameo...she's in 13 of the season's 21 or 22 episodes. Plus...isn't high school only 4 years long? By my count...Clark & friends should be graduating this year.

"AICN reported today that its a done deal that Bryan Singer, Mike Dougherty, and Daniel Harris will all be working on the new Superman film. So I don't know what to think about all of this."

Fuck that shit. Superman was made perfectly in the 70s and there is no need to do a deeply uninteresting update of it. I was hoping the project would keep stumbling from director to director til it finally curled up and blew away, but now they've stolen the director of the franchise that started this comic-book boom? Damnit, X3 is far far far more interesting than ANY Superman flick.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

My bad here, I forgot to mention that for the first three seasons, the average budget for the episodes was around $1.8 million. They lowered the production costs by almost half. This REALLY can't be a good sign...

Watchmen should never be made into a film, because its just too big. It needs to be a sci-fi ten hour mini-series minus the Pirtate crap. I have read the so-called script for Watchmen and if it is the shooting script, which I highly doubt, it'll make Batman and Robin look like Citizen Kane.

I am with oldschoolhero, fuck Superman. Considering this is supposed to be a sequel to those films and since Christopher Reeves ain't playing Sups, there is no point. It pisses me off when WB does this shit and I can't believe Bryan fell for their line of "we will let you run it, your way," two minutes into John Peters will call and says he wants to add fucking spider into it. WB has been pissing me off all year, can't someone just close that fucking studio.

On a brighter, Star Trek: TOS season one is a welcome surprise.

The only script for Watchmen I've seen floating around is the one Terry Giliam wrote a couple years ago, and it's not very good. I heard that someone else wrote another, much better script for Watchmen that was going to be used, but really, who knows. I'd say that Watchmen is never actually going to be made, but I said that about Alien vs. Predator and they proved me wrong there.

How does Warner Bros. go about "optioning" Beowulf? I'm pretty sure the copyright ran out on that baby about 800 years ago

Anyway, according to the Telegraph, there are two film versions of Beowulf in production. Here's the link:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/07/19/wbeow19.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/07/19/ixworld.html

Neither of the versions seem to have anything to do with John Gardner's classic novel "Grendel", which in my opinion would allow for a more seemless screen adaptation than the poem (and don't get me wrong, the poem is GREAT, especially Seamus Heaney's recent translation), and though Garnder's novel is not quite the original story (as it retells the Beowulf story from Grendel's POV) it is a truly great read, if you've never read it!

Does this make the Bryan Singer directing Superman rumors official? Geezus, this feels like a real kick in the balls. I wonder what Marvel Comics thinks of all this considering they HIRED Bryan Singer, Mike Dougherty, and Daniel Harris to write a year's worth of stories for ULTIMATE X-MEN! Do you guys see that happening now b/c I sure as hell don't, especially after some of the editorial bullshit Marvel does to stick it to defecting writers.

Well, most Marvel deals are contingent on the writer(s) fulfilling their contracted issues before they get paid for anything...so, if Singer & Co. don't write nothing...they get no coin. And word from Marvel was that Singer & Co. were behind sked and may do an Ultimate limited series instead of the X-Men series. It'll be Ultimate X-Men, just not the main series.
