It was good while it lasted, wasn't it? We had a champ who was not a stiff steroid freak. We had a champ who was undersized and had that giant-killer quality. We had a champ who was wonderful on the mic, vicious in his sneak attacks, awesome in his ability to get heel-heat. Now, he's dead and gone. R.I.P. Chris Jericho.
Last night when Jericho came down the ramp, the crowd was SO dead, it was unbelievable. How can a man's heat die so quickly? I was at Raw two months ago, just after Jericho turned heel and was feuding with The Rock. He got a HUGE pop when the millennium countdown began, and got massive heel-heat during his promo. Now? Nothing. No one even stands up for the poor guy's entrance. He was coming down the ramp last night trying to look enthusiastic and I felt embarassed for him.
His arms looked empty and weak without those belts draped over them during the entrance. No one cared. It's all about Triple H and his bitches (Lucy included). Will Jericho ever get his heat back? Would a face turn do it? Would credible wins do it? Who knows. Perhaps the WWF has legitamately killed him.
Damn. He was the most enjoyable champion of the last 3-4 years, in my opinion, but they put him in a suck-ass feud with a dorky story line and now he's a mid-card cruiser again.
This totally, totally sucks.

Yes, but now think of all the exciting title feuds we have to look forward to. Are you not getting chills down your spine at the expected title matchup of Backlash putting Triple H against the Awesome Undertaker, who is most awesomely awesome?

Oh well, maybe when the WWF splits into 4 brands Chris will get a top card run where's he not made into someone's bitch at every single turn.

I would go into a detailed explanation of how Jericho has had more perks than any other other rookie champ EVER, but I'd be repeating myself. Suffice to say, it's hardly fair to blame the WWF for Jericho's dead reaction. That fans aren't retards, you know. They do form their own opinions.

I think the WWF went out of their way to protect him last night. He would have been a really low draft pick, as neither Flair nor Vince would have taken him in their first 5 or 6 picks, IMO. So they declare him ineligible for the draft and a lottery pick instead, so he doesn't have to have the "low draft pick" stigma that could have potentially hurt him.

I thought it was cool how HHH just tossed Jericho out of the ring and made him vanish, possibly into another dimension, at the end of the match. Thanks for playing, Jericho!

Looking back on the whole HHH/Steph/Jericho mess, Jericho was the Michael J. Pollard to Steph's Bonnie and HHH's Clyde-uh.

This makes absolutely no sense to me as a fan (both "informed" and "uninformed").

On the kayfabe side of things, both men should've wanted the man who was just the Undisputed Champion. To say he would've been a "low pick" is like looking at a Fantasy Sports draft and picking Frank Thomas first (which the Raw side technically did). Last night's draft was a farce the more I think about it today, and I will stand by those words when the WWF has to rebuild Raw again when they realize that the majority of the people on that show are people the fans either never cared for (Justin Credible) or hate seeing on their TV (X-Pac). Yes, there is a chance the writers realize that Raven can not only work well in the ring, but has a killer promo, and they use him... but guess what??? He's been sitting on the shelf for a year because they have idiots writing TV. The casual fan will see Raw as inferior, there is no doubt in my mind, and it will fail.

On the "smart" side of things, look at the first 3 people chosen for both sides (I said people not picks). The Smackdown crew has:

  • Rock : one of the most popular faces ever, and still has years ahead of him... oh yeah, and he's a Hollywood Action Star...
  • Kurt Angle : Best in-ring worker right now in the WWF and can be considered on of the top heels. Also in his prime.
  • Chris Benoit : Yes he is coming off an injury, but this is something similar to Austin and Austin has shown no bad signs since returning, I don't expect Benoit to either. It also doesn't hurt that he is one of the top wrestlers in the world when healthy.

The Raw Crew has:

  • Undertaker : He's old and immobile. He tries really hard, but is quickly becomming a tired act that the fans don't care for all that much. But he's a locker room leader...
  • Scott Hall : Last I heard everybody but Nash, X-Pac, Hogan, and maybe HHH don't think he should even be in the WWF. Austin left TV because he doesn't want to have anything to do with him (and Nash). Oh, and he's old and getting immoble.
  • Kevin Nash : He is "The Poison" that the angle came from. More than Hogan... More than Hall... Nash played both sides of the fence in WCW and made sure he was kept high up in the card in place of people who should have been there instead of him. He was a reason for the poor morale in WCW, and is doing the same in WWF. He has been in the company for less than a month and has complained in two internet documented occassions (who knows how many other times that aren't picked "reported"). I almost forgot, he's old and is the slowest man alive.

Flair's first two picks could have been held off longer, and an actual plot for the show could have been made, where Vince kept saying don't worry to Taker and the nWo, but in some set of events to end the draft (much like how they were throwing picks at each other a couple times) Vince picked one more than he should've (The Brock Lesnar pick). Vince gave Flair the 2 picks before Vince took his second to last, and Flair picked the his 1 and 2 picks there. At least in that situation there is a reasoning behind what happened. Also it coul've put 3 guys who could use the needed push at the top of the draft. I'd say Flair draft Jericho #1, but he's on the Smackdown Roster.

But in overall thoughts, no matter what the subject is right, Jericho has been killed... Hopefully he doesn't get hurt and ends up like Jerry Lynn.

Well here's the problem with that. It was never said what the two owners were trying to accomplish with the draft. Were they trying to get guys who would win all the titles? In that case, Jericho would be a logical top pick. Were they trying to get guys who would make the most money? In that case Jericho shouldn't be at the top. Not now anyway.

Whatever happens, it's quite obvious that this draft was only necessary to establish two different shows. I'm sure there will be plenty of guys jumping from one show to the other in the coming months.

Two quick things:

-oldschoolhero, the worse the booking (or the more Steph-centric, whichever you like) of Jericho got over the last 6 months, the less his reaction became. By WM, everyone thought he was Steph's bitch boy, and HHH's punching bag. Who's going to react to that wonderful mess positively?

-TexasKelly, of course it's not wrong to wish such things upon those who deserve them. I bought a HHH action figure just to stick pins into its quads in hopes of getting some of that Papa Shango voodoo happening.

Can you buy a Stephanie doll and do some of that to her too? Her CRACK-INDUCED SELF-CENTERED booking is just as much as responsible as HHH's ego for this senseless act of murder.

Beg pardon, Trineo, sir, but how in the heck do YOU know why Austin left TV, hmmmm? Maybe he had an allergic reaction to Canadian beer, maybe his knees acted up, maybe it was actually pre-planned. The point is, how do you KNOW?

Yeah, but why let him slip quietly by in the after-show lottery? That seems worse than being low in the draft pick (and he probably would've been around #5, before Booker and after Hogan -- not too bad). The BEST situation, it seems to me -- one that would have made Jericho seem valuble -- would have been to make him a free agent, to be fought over on Smackdown or beyond. Hell, most people who watched RAW probably don't even realize he's been drafted by now. Why didn't they go that route?

exactly. No wonder storylines don't involve more long term memory. The people crying about the death of Chris Jericho can't remember a short year ago.

Let's hope they address that on Smackdown this week. It would be cool to see Flair and Vince fighting for his services.

Personally I don't think Kurt has yet recovered from his craptacular first title reign. He had one hot run this summer, but Austin was in such a heel groove that ANYONE could have run well against him. The only reason Kurt gets any big reaction these days is his music is easy to chant in time with. He has never been as hot as he was during the HHH/Kurt/Steph triangle stuff which got so royally botched up. Seriously, is there anyone who would watch Angle/HHH right now and think Angle stood a chance in hell these days?

granted, things don't look so good for Y2J now, but don't be so quick to throw dirt on his casket.

HHH is supposed to fight taker at backlash. taker's on raw on jericho's on smackdown. jericho could very well still be in the title hunt, just not the first in line for a ppv title shot. there are any number of ways they could go with this.

check out the "off the record" reports on slash for jericho and triple h. maybe i'm reading between the lines too much, but it kind of sounds like there's some heat between them. not at the level of bret and shawn... at least not yet.
