I don't know how good the game will be (currently on teh Deuce as I write this), but they have Gammons and Tony Gwynn doing the color, so I'm in heaven.

I only caught a lttle of the game but I agree that Gwynn is very good. Of the regular color men on ESPN, he and Rick Sutcliffe are far superior to Joe Morgan. Gammons is the best at what he does.

...and we get Sut and Gwynn down here in San Diego occasionally.

I'm starting to see why our real estate prices are so damn high.

Joe Morgan drives me nuts most of the time. Anything that happens now isn't as good as back when he was a player.

And when he covers an Athletics game, he makes sure to insult the "Moneyball" approach to the game, and talks about how stupid it is. He's been doing it lately to Red Sox games, as well. It drives me crazy, because he ignores things going on in the field to talk about how bad the game is these days. I know he's getting attacked fairly often by some in the baseball press, and I guess that means that he has to fight back, but he's starting to rant and rave way too much on TV and during his ESPN.com chats.

I think I've said this before, but I could listen to Gwynn talk about baseball all day long, Sutcliffe too. But, I'm a sucker for baseball and baseball stories.

(Not Bob Kohm)

In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.

Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

Morgan has always done that though. He is always overly critical of, well, everybody.

Funny thing is, that if Morgan wan't so critical of the Moneyball approach(and there are plenty of negatives to it), the critique would carry more gravitas if it were not coming form him.

If the American administration changes in November, it will be catastrophic, because those Democrats do not understand a thing about foreign policy, and they lack the determination to make decisions the way [President] Bush made them in Iraq and elsewhere.- Sheik Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah, former Kuwaitit ambassador to the US

Most of those criticizing the so-called "Moneyball approach" don't understand the first thing about it. Besides which, the core of Moneyball was Billy Beane's search for undervalued talent, i.e., getting the most bang for his buck.
