IIRC, Gerry Rafferty was in Stealer's Wheel, and so if we're going by "you can count the group as well as the solo artist," he's had another hit with "Stuck in the Middle With You."
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pour gasoline on someone and cut their ear off.
I always thought "Right Down the Line" was Gerry Rafferty's big hit.

In fact, the trippy-ass college radio station just played "Same Song" the other day. I'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but I thought I heard TuPac on that tune. True?
Tupac was a member of Digital Underground before splitting off and going solo in '92-ish. Shock G and a couple other members of DU did guest appearances on his first couple of albums.

Cool. I acknowlegde your informative input. Thanks.
Three more I'd like to submit for consideration:
Christopher Cross- "theme from Arthur"..or whatever it was called. ("If you get caught between a road and New York Ciiiiity..")
Danger Danger -"Naughty Naughty". Crappy Crappy.
Chuck Mangione- "Feels so Good"... although he is sorta the patron saint of "King of the Hill".
Blu Cantrell just had a recent hit that I forget the name of. Fastball had "Out Of My Head" which went at the very least top 30. Dishwalla had "Once In A While" off the next album and "Somewhere In The Middle" off the next. Spacehog had some more minor alternative hits with "Mungo City" and "I Want To Live". Ben Folds Five had "Army" and "Song For The Dumped". Aaaand I almost put Bran Van 3000 myself, but their song with Curtis Mayfield, "Astounded", was pretty big in Canada. Phew.

Spacehog's "I Want to Live" got quite a bit of play around here, and Fastball shouldn't count because "Out of My Head" was a pretty decent hit too.
Not to mention "Fire Escape", which beats down all their other songs and leaves them in the gutter.
Spacehog MAY be out, depending on how well "Mungo City" did. Although their first album's fucking great.
I own "All the Pain Money can Buy" and "Fire Escape" is my least favorite song on the album. "The Way", "Sooner or Later", and hell even "Charlie the Methadone Man" are a lot better to listen to. And the first two got airplay!

This thread seems to have a lot of "Since I don't remember, they must be one hit wonders" creeping into it. Both these guys had tons of hits and Michael Jackson is calling you ignorant, that's ignorant, stop being so ignorant.
OK I got a good double CD worth of OHW. You all are some true music gurus. There is one song that I am tracking down. It was early 90's It had this throbbing bass line, and it was song by a woman. In the song which was really weird she talked about looking out the window of a coffee shop and singing about what she saw. The hook went Da-da-deda-da-da-deda, da-deda-da-da-deda I remember rapper MC Lyte using the same beat on her song Daddy's Little Girl. I am about to rip my receding hair out in frustration. And someone at work told me I can't count the Baha Man because they had another hit. I must have been high and drunk when that happen even though I don't drink or use drugs. Because I can not recall anything else they did. When I first heard, Who Let The Dogs Out, I thought it was Tag Team making a comeback.

I believe that is Tom's Diner, Suzanne Vega. I was trying to find a link to the Sire CD Sampler that it was on, but I got beat to the punch by bash while doing it.
All music doesn't catalogue the "Just say..." series. Incredible. I've never been let down by AllMusic.com before.

Jam Harder (gemm.com) was not only an A&M compilation, but it's somewhere in your condo at this very moment.
Latest suggestion: The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
You never heard of the other singles of the album like 'Sonnet', 'The Drugs Don't Work' or 'Lucky Man' or songs like History off their first album?
Most people remember The Verve for Bittersweet Symphony because that was their only song that got any play on the radio, hence a one-hit band in most American eyes. Well, mine at least.
They are like Dexy. We know them for Come on Elieen (sp?) and one other (the name escapes me at the moment) but most of the UK loves most of their work, from what I've heard anyway.
Our one or two hit wonders are some countires mega-hit bands.
(Disclaimer: I got most of that info from a VH1 mega list show)

Nope. Only thing The Verve got played over here was 'Bittersweet Symphony'. Like Zeruel said, some countries just don't get their bands truly exported.

I have. They're a tad slow to put up new albums. Not the greatest example, but Music Choice was playing the new Taking Back Sunday song (which is amazingly enough borderline listenable) for a month, with the album name, before AMG put it up. That and they'll say some death metal band did a song that in fact was by some nu-emo band... I dunno, it was easier when I remembered the name in question.

The Boyz in tha Hood cover was done by Dynamite Hack.
Would Joan Osbourne count? She had the one big hit (One of Us) and a couple of her singles road those coattails, much like some of these other bands/singers/groups.
