Oh for the love of God. Can Joe Torre be banned from this? Nothing against Gordon but that should be Takatsu for the CWS selection. And I know they've been disappointing, but Pedro and Halladay being disappointing has been superior to Lilly and Loaiza.

The NL team is about as fine as it can be.

I'm obviously biased here, but if it were a perfect world, Jack Wilson would be the starting shortstop for the NL. Hitting .340, 8 HR, about 35 RBI, and leading the NL in hits gets him a reserve spot? Please. This year, he has easily been the best SS in the NL.

Well obviously but you can't rely on fans to vote properly. I was surprised Barry Larkin didn't win.

Lyle Overbay got screwed.

5th in the NL with a .343 BA.
3rd in the NL with 61 RBI, no NL 1B has more.
1st in the NL with 35 doubles.

He isn't even on the 32nd man voting!
Unfortunately Casey went on the DL today, hopefully Lyle takes his spot.

What the crap is with Giambi getting to start? I know these weren't the Bizarro World All-Stars (hardballtimes.com)...

And who thinks that Beltran will get on the team somehow? I don't know about the results of the player voting, but it sounded like they happened pre-trade.

The first name I think of as missing from the NL is Adam Dunn. JD Drew has had a good year too, especially lately.

Have to agree, I know homeruns is the big deal nowadays but he is on pace to break the doubles record. 1B is a tough one though. Obviously Pujols and Thome should be, Casey too, and Helton is Colorado's only rep. Just think next year you'll have Piazza at that position too.

I agree it should be Takatsu instead of Loaiza, Thomas has had a good season too, but the AL 1B is pretty competitive also, and I guess Magglio has been injured too long to get on (or he'll still be injured when the game comes).

Other that I can't complain I think Jack Wilson and Hank Blalock are both having good enough years to start but I don't have a problem with fan voting.

Is Carl Pavano really having that good of a year? I don't think he's been on my radar all season.

Lyle Overbay should be on, and I suspect that issue will be rectified. However, I'm left hoping the populace will see the injustice in Bobby Abreu's omission:

To date (through 7/4/04):
.304 BA, 66 R, 22 2B, 17 HR, 56 RBI, 69 BB, 17 SB, 1 CS, .444 OBP, .576 SLG, 1.021 OPS

I've already pumped them full of five votes for Abreu. He's been key to my fantasy performance alone.

How many times can you vote, anyways? I don't think the site said.

YES...Takatsu should've been the ChiSox rep, I think this may have been a make-up pick from last year if he (Loaiza) didn't make it last season. Konerko is also deserving.

Vgmastr...Overbay got screwed, no doubt, but (one of) thing(s)that hurt him was that Pujols was listed as a first basmen. To my knowledge, he has played less than five games at that position all season.

Snoozebutton... Be thankful he's on the team at all. While I agree he should have been the starter...Adamn Everett has made a strong case for most of the season as well.

Dr. Jay... I agree with you completely, but name recognition has a ton to do with it. Konerko may end up getting a spot due to Giambi's parasite.

I'm not thrilled with Larkin making it to the squad, but, this is probably his last season, and I don't hink I remember him hitting the DL so far, which is a huge step for him.

As per Lilly...I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that is more deserving than him off of the Blue Jays' rost right now. V. Wells and C. Delgado have been hurt. While Roy Halladay haven't exactly pitched up to his CY-season last year. (Although I may be a bit fuzzy on his stats on the season.)

And, since this post would be completely wasted without a bit of homerism, please, please, Please, PLEAST, PLZ, vote for Aramis Ramirez, 3B, of YOUR 2004 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs for the 32nd man on the NL roster. I don't care who you vote for for the AL 32nd man or whatever number it is. Just remember ARAMIS RAMIREZ, 3RD BASE, CHICAGO CUBS.

Gee-$...Dunn is definately deserved of a spot, but, you can't exactly argue against anyone that got voted in ahead of him, although he could get in with Casey going on the DL.

Quezzy...Pavano has been having a very good year, albeit quietly. While I might have rather seen Clement get the nod over him, he had been dating Alissa Milano for the majority of the season, which may have swung things in his favor.

This post wouldn't be complete without a bit of blatant homerism. Please vote for Aramis Ramirez, of your soon-to-be 2004 World Series Champions (yes I have been to the future) as your National League 32nd man. He's been deserved of it in the past, and is certainly deserved of it this year. Once again, that is ARAMIS RAMIREZ, THIRD BASE, of the soon-to-be-2004-World Champions of the World - CHICAGO CUBS. Thanks in advance.

Why is it I haven't seen Beltre's name mentioned much in any of this? His numbers compare extremely well with Lowell's but while a few people mention Lowell I've only seen one mentioning Beltre. I know he had a relatively quiet May and I came oh so close to dumping him when the bone spur stuff came out, but his stats don't lie.

Loaiza STARTED last year, so this is just Torre being not smart.

As per Lilly...I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that is more deserving than him off of the Blue Jays' rost right now. V. Wells and C. Delgado have been hurt. Halladay Lilly
ERA 3.83 4.04
WHIP 1.29 1.39
K 82 83
BAA .258 .244
W-L 7-5 7-4
IP 108 93.2

Halladay has been a little disappointing, but overall his numbers are not dramatically different than his Cy Young-winning stats from last season: (3.25, 1.07, 204, .247, 22-7, 266)

Lilly has had a perfectly fine season, and I don't consider it a travesty of justice or anything silly, but Halladay is and has been better. I think we can chalk this one up to Joe liking Ted Lilly still, which is fine.

What about Chris Carpenter? 8-3, ERA below 3.70 pretty much all season. You can credit him as much as any of their pitchers for the Cardinals being in first for much of the season. I'd take him over Sheets and Pavano, at the very least. But the Cards do have three offensive starters...

Speaking of MIA Phillies, where is Eric Milton and his 11 wins?

And Giambi can`t start, he still has parasites, correct?

And in reference to Beltran being stuck in bizarro world, I believe he gets to show up and be recognized as an All-Star, but he can`t actually play? Which is even weirder considering he`ll be in Houston.

As a Phillies fan, I think Abreu is much more deserving of going than Milton. While Milton has won 11 games, he's got an ERA of more than 4 and has been the beneficiary of some huge offensive games.

For some reason Abreu never seems to get any love and I'm at the point of wondering what he has to do to get noticed. He may well be the most underappreciated star in the game.

As for Giambi, I suspect he could probably go an inning or two and then call it a night. On Beltran, you're on the money -- I wouldn't be surprised to see him (or Overbay) added when/if Casey backs out.

I have been reading notes in all of the NY/NJ papers speculating that he will probably sit the ASG out in favor of more rest. Personally, I would like to see him sit, and George's baseball people oughtta whisper in his ear "Make a big deal through the media that you expect JG to sit the All-Star Game and do the right thing for the team" so George can tell all the papers and TV "I expect Giambi to sit the All-Star Game and do the right thing for the team."

Pavano is 9-3 with an ERA under 3. 6 of his wins have come following Marlins losses, which has been huge for them. Sorry, but I'd go Pavano over Carpenter.

Pujols definitely should've been in the game. First of all as it was said, anybody in their right mind would put in Pujols in that situation if "this one counts".
