Less than two weeks out to the next WWE PPV on July 11th, and they just had one last night too. It looks like there are just too many PPV's for the writing team to handle since they can't build up a full solid show that costs over $35 dollars until right before it happens.

Here is the current card:

Batista vs. Chris Jericho
Edge vs. Randy Orton (c) for the Intercontinetal title
HHH vs. Chris Benoit (c) for the World Heavyweight title

Ok, now here's 3 matches, 2 of which for RAW's big singles titles the main selling point of the show. But the problem I see here is three matches involve evolution members, and it shows a lack of direction of well built up feuds for other wrestlers that are just miring on the Raw roster. The tag team division is dead. Who did the tag team champions fight tonight? Slaughter and Rhyno. And who are they defending their titles against at the PPV? This is unacceptable, and I think the cause of it all is that they are having trouble with having to book two separate brands, and 2 separate brand PPV's in the same month. The midcard is in a dead state as well, because other than the feuds, mostly involving Evolution...there is nothing else going on right now. The kane thing is a joke, and I'm not exactly excited about the prospect of it climaxing with a Matt Hardy/Kane match. The Eugene stuff was cute at first, but now its just getting silly, and I doubt it will last much longer.

Just something to think about for a while. The Vengeance card looks ok so far, but for a PPV that fans pay good money for, it should be looking a whole lot better, or else buyrates will continue to go down.

At this point (2 weeks prior to the PPV), we can only speculate what other matches there will be. The main ones they want to base the PPV on and use to sell it to viewers are already listed above.

La Resistance really has no program at the moment, so we can guess that whoever they face, they'll likely retain. So their opponents probably won't matter this month.

With 3 or 4 matches per RAW each week (and that's being generous), it's difficult to build or maintain any tag team division. So anybody's guess is as good as mine for the Tag Team Championship opponents of La Rez.

Eugene's involvement will be interesting. Does he wrestle against Regal? Are they going to stretch this angle of Eugene trusting HHH longer than the next 2 weeks? They might as well, since Evolution is booked and having Eugene vs Flair wouldn't accomplish much. Eugene versus Regal looks most likely.

Kane versus Matt Hardy is a good possibility - either now or at Summerslam. Who knows how long HBK will be gone, so they might extend the Kane/Lita/Mattitude angle to Summerslam and hold off on HBK/Kane until the fall.

Shelton is injured, so he won't be around this month. Maybe Summerslam, if his broken hand/wrist has healed by then.

There will be a women's match for sure, probably between Trish and Victoria. Maybe even a mixed tag match with Tomko/Trish vs Stevie/Victoria?

Let's see...

One Fall for the World Heavyweight Championship:
CHRIS BENOIT [c] vs. TRIPLE H
They've been building to this since January (when Benoit finally won "the big one"), and I can't wait. They fought in October 2000 at No Mercy and the match ruled even though the vocal point of the angle was Stephanie McMahon. Without her, and with HHH looking more and more focused in the ring each week...this could be awesome.

One Fall for the WWE Intercontinental Championship:
RANDY ORTON [c] vs. EDGE
Orton's been the champion since December. Edge is a multi-time champion. Orton cheats to win. Edge doesn't. Looks good. Add in Shelton Benjamin at SummerSlam and everything could rock.

One Fall:
CHRIS JERICHO vs. BATISTA
The big test for Batista, the one-on-one singles bout. It's his first since December, but everyone probably agrees he's progressed a lot since then. Now we get to see how much.

One Fall:
EUGENE vs. WILLIAM REGAL
Odds are that they'll do this here or at SummerSlam, and that the jobs of one or both men will be on the line. Regal hasn't had a long match since he came back, and Eugene's a comedy worker...so any match would be more angle-driven than anything else.

One Fall:
KANE vs. MATT HARDY V.1
Either here or at SummerSlam. Lita will be involved somehow.

One Fall for World Tag Team Championship:
LA RESISTANCE [c] vs. RHYNO & TAJIRI
Hey, they did it at the MSG show and they need filler matches.

Women's Match:
Some combination of Trish, Molly Holly, Gail Kim & Jazz against some combination of Lita, Victoria, Nidia & Stacy. More filler!

I think they're building up the storylines nicely, with the exception of the tag division. I like the *idea* of Tajiri and Rhyno, but I'd prefer if some teams were actually formed before getting the title shot at a PPV. Put another way, I'd prefer a Four Corners #1 Contender's Match, with the title shot on Monday, to a match between two teams that don't have a feud going, when one of those teams is brand new.

At this point, not even Heat is doing their part in the establishment of a tag division, as Hurricane and Rosey have lost all their credibility, and certain wrestlers have been MIA.

But as far as singles matches are concerned, I'd say that 5 or 6, two weeks before, is pretty good.

The state of the RAW tag division is horrid. It's pretty bad when you have to bring Sgt. Slaughter out to team with someone. Why not at least move the Basham Brothers over to RAW that way you have at least 2 "real teams" ...

I did read somewhere last week (sorry, I can't remember the source so take it for what it's worth) that Doug Basham is supposedly dating Gail Kim. And we all know how they like to get the couples on one roster.

But there isn't 5 or 6 two weeks before. There's 3. And I don't think one week is sufficient enough time to build up a full 7-8 match PPV card and try to convince fans to buy it.

I kinda like the idea of a Hardy/Kane match. It's obvious that Matt could never win out of such a pairing, but having him put up one Hell of a fight-busting Kane open, moonsaults, a Twist Of Fate or two, Hell bring the ladder out-could do wonders for him at this stage. Make it a no-DQ match and have 'em tear chunks out of each other.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

I agree. This could be the one last chance they have to make Matt Hardy a legitimate mid-card player. OSH hit the nail on the head with the ladders ... have him channel some of his old Hardy Boyz days. I personally think he should be rewarded with an IC program with Orton, but that's just me.

My Vengeance card predictions:

Chris Benoit v. HHH
Randy Orton v. Edge
Jericho v. Batista
Regal v. Eugene
Matt Hardy v. Kane - Lita special ref
Trish Stratus w/Tomko v. Victoria w/Richards
4 corners elimination tag match - La Rez v. Rosey/Hurricane v. 2 other thrown together teams

Too bad about Shelton breaking his hand at this point in his push. Seems he's already been forgotten about after such a great re-introduction and cycling through Evolution and all that from a few months ago.

That wasn't so much because they had to than because it's the show before the 4th of July, so they have to bring Sarge out just BECAUSE, and who better for him to face than the America-bashing La Resistance?

I suspect we'll see the Rhyno/Tajiri team form up in the next week or two.

But you have to look at it from WWE's point of view. Why waste precious TV time on your workers who's going to perform on pay per view where a good storyline could be the difference for someone who's on the fence buying a PPV or not... It's much more important using that time showing Sandy from New York singing Happy Birthday to Coachman, or Mindy from Chicago having her heart broken because she's not Diva material because of her slight overbite(oh, my heart goes out to poor Mindy). Or next week get to see Carla from LA showing her ability to count by two and walk at the same time(Amazing).

With this sort of stuff, there's just not enough segments on Raw to build a legit full PPV card. Let's look at this past week, there's 11 segments every Raw. Benoit/Kane went 3, if you take Kane's interview that's 4. Promo & match with Trips/Eugene/Regal segments 5,6. JeriEdge v. BatsOrton went two segments 7,8. You waste two segments on backstage stuff and Divasearch crap 9,10. And lucky La Resistance must have picked out the tallest straw because they got the one left over TV spot(I guess Trish & Victoria were the lucky ones last week)... I like long matches so I don't mind Edgico/Ortista going 2 segments, Benoit/Kane wasn't really that long I think the 3 segments was bad time management during show(Vince not at the show due to illness, might have something to do with that). But still you can't throw TV time away like divasearch, but they're a Billion Dollar company so they must be all intelligent.

I agree with NHS, the problem with Raw is the time management, although eventually you reach PPV saturation.

All in all, I'm looking forward to Vengeance. Jericho vs. Batista should be pretty good. Same for Edge vs. Orton. And if played right, Benoit vs. HHH over the soul of Eugene could be the Angle of The Year.

The current Vengeance card with only *TWO* new matches announced on Raw tonight:

World Heavyweight Title Match-
Chris Benoit(c) vs. HHH

Intercontinenetal Title Match-
Randy Orton(c) vs. Edge

World Heavyweight Tag Team Title Match-
Eugene and Ric Flair vs. La Resistance(c)

Grudge Match-
Jericho vs. Batista

No Disqualification Match-
Kane vs. Matt Hardy

So that's only five matches 6 days before the ppv. The tag title match wasn't really what anyone predicted it would be. But this close to before a PPV they should have built up a better card, especially for a $35 dollar plus show. The thing about Kane vs. Matt Hardy...Kane's already wrestled Matt Hardy before, and squashed him. The pregnancy angle is ridiculous, and I'm not that interested in the match. The tag title match will be comedy mostly. Batista/Jericho will probably be good, since last month Jericho carried Tomko to a watchable bout and Batista is showing improvement. But there are other great wrestlers on RAW who don't appear to be on this card. Guys like Tajiri and the Hurricane. And its a shame that WWE is putting so much time into useless crap like the diva search and Lita's pregnancy, and can't find better time for a great performer like Tajiri than playing musical chairs. Pathetic.

Kane/Hardy can be good because of the No DQ stip, because it gives Matt the chance to get some offense and hope-spots in. The only way he'll win is through a fluke distraction from Lita leading into a roll-up, but even without that there's hope that he'll look good if they at least make him a tough squash.

Hell, they let JEFF look like a fighter during the Jeff/Taker feud (remember Jeff's "Taker! I'm still standing!" as he was near collapse and clinging to a rope?). Hopefully they'll let Matt do the same.
