According to the Best Buy flyer in the paper today, they'll be selling it for $99.99 and offering some kind of CD_ROM giveaway with it.
I advise people to also check Circuit City, as I've found they've actually been cheaper than Best Buy on "big" DVD releases of late.
I won't be getting mine just yet. I don't know if there are enough good episodes in Season one to warrant getting the DVD, when I already have them on video.

Well, it is at least 4 or 5 discs. The X-Files sets, which are seven discs, are around $150.

Originally posted by Super Shane SpearYou're confusing that with MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price.) The MSRP for season one is 139.99 I think.
no, i'm not. MAP and MSRP are two different things. MAP is a guide for how retail stores are going to charge for sale of the item. Usually only video stores and rental shops are given MAPs. I'm going to use OZ as an example because i know most of the figures off the top of my head.
the MAP for OZ is 69.99 the MSRP i THINK is 89.99 the wholesale cost is 43.44 [at least for my store]
amazon is advertising 64.99 and "discounting" it for 44.99, meaning they're making a buck per sale, unless they got a sweet bulk discount [my store ordered 2 sets]
No, because the MSRP for OZ was $64.98 the day it came out. Therefore, the MAP cannot be $69. Also, I bought it as a consumer non-wholesale for $42.99 @ Costco.
I think somebody is missing something here. Are you looking at Canadian prices, because those prices would make sense in Canadian dollars. Also, are we talking the VHS or DVD, because I only work with DVD.
yes, the MAP can be $69 american because Ingram/WB [the distrib.] set the MAP at $69
there is no enforcement if a store chooses to sell below the min...and i am also talking about the DVD set...
hell, they might even stop enforsement of the street dates. Costco has been violating them with impunity with not even a investagation by the VDSA...
like i said, it's a guide. They try to get all the stores to sell at the MAP to boost sales [if more sell at $69 than $44 then they have a better chance of setting records and such, like they will try to do with Harry potter and LOTR:FOTR]
costco must have gotten a huge bulk discount. My store bought 70 Training day VHS and we got $5 per copy discount and paid only $7 each... we sell the used tapes for $8.95 a pop, so the owner will be happy when the rents die down
It seems none of the category busters sell big name items for anything more than right about cost.
I know that, according to my friend that runs a video store, there were some things being sold for below cost.
If I have my facts right, the cost for Moulin Rogue was around 19 or 20 bucks and I got mine at Circuit City for $17.99

I've seen the OZ set up here in Calgary for $48.99...pretty damn good, IMHO.
Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?
A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"
