Has anyone else went to see this movie? I went today with a few friends and it was rather silly and stupid at times but man was it a pretty funny movie. I don't feel like spoiling too much but any film that features Hasselhoff AND Chuck Norris..well I need not say more.
It was enjoyable enough for a few laughs. I'm starting to think that the Stiller/Wilson Brothers/Vaughn/Ferrell combo is sort of like a comedy rat pack for the 21st century (with Christine Taylor, Jason Bateman and Juliette Lewis as auxiliary members). Any movie that has a few of them involved is usually hilarious.
The cameo by....

I took a date to see it and it was fine. No real gut laughs, but we both giggled and Ben Stiller's hair was funny. Honestly, I got the biggest laugh out of "The Ocho," ESPN 8. Ben Stiller seems intent on playing every sort of fucked up comedy character that he can get his hands on, while putting his wife in the midcard female role. At least she's getting work.
The cameo's didn't really do that much for me, but they served their purpose. Hasselhoff was funny, but the "Fuckin' Chuck Norris" at the end may have been the highlight.
I'd lukewarmly recommend it, but if this movie encourages a dodgeball renaissance, then I say bravo.

Watch the old Disney flick Heavyweights - it's essentially the same character, nothing new. But I enjoyed this flick. Stupid fun.
Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace. [He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.] Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa! [Alexa gives him a withering glare.] Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me. Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag! Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you. [Keith walks off] Alexa: Ewww!
Stupid fun would be the way to describe it - there were a lot of obscure movie references that were great. (I absolutely loved the writing on the wooden case at the end - look closely, though, some of the people I was with didn't even see it.)
I saw it. Like a lot of people have said it is stupid fun. Lance Armstrong's speech is funny. Hasselhaf is really funny yelling at the Germans. I recommend seeing it for some cheap laughs.
Marge I am just trying to get into heaven not run for Jesus.
I also enjoyed it, although I was hoping for bigger laughs. It wasn't as good as Old School or even Base-ketball (highly underrated), but Chuck Norris and Shatner kicked ass. As a huge Gary Cole mark, it was great seeing him team with Jason Bateman for commentary. I was also disturbed by how skinny Christine Taylor is. Jesus she's all skin and bones--scary! Ben Stiller should take his wife to Peter Luger's the next time he's in NYC for porterhouse--stat!

You are SO right about BASEketball being underrated. I saw that movie twice in three days and loved it both times. There were so many funny gags, and the ESPN bit with Dan Patrick talking about the complicated tournamet brackets still makes me chuckle.
Joe Wilson (looking at Interocitor manual)- Hey, here's something my wife could use in the house... Crow T. Robot- A man? Joe Wilson- An interocitor incorporating an electron sorter. Cal Meechum- Oh, she'd probably gain 20 pounds while it did all the work for her. Tom Servo- Cal, you bitch!
Just saw it today. Lots of empty seats thanks to the rush of people who went to watch "Farenheit 9/11" instead. It was an enjoyable flick. I got my $7 worth of laughs. I would watch it again. The cast really made it worthwhile for me. Sure, you've got Stiller and Vince Vaughn, but then you've got freakin' Milton from "Office Space". Plus being the big mark I am for "Firefly", seeing Alan Tudyk was a plus (Steve the Pirate). Jason Bateman and Gary Cole were great as "The Ocho's" announce team. Must give props to Rip Torn too. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!" Add to that the cool cameos and such.
Buuuuuuuuuut...I would still place BASEketball above this. Watching both back to back would definitely be perfect for a night with friends. Even better if it's with a date that would enjoy it. hah.
and, "Fuckin Chuck Norris" indeed.

I was somewhat expecting a Brady Bunch homage when Christine Taylor got hit with the dodgeball, "OOH, MY NOSE!"...

I mean that in the "hot chick that has some great comedy timing" vibe.
Until her work in Office Space, I really didn't think to much of her. She was really great in that.

I'm glad someone else said that, as I told my friends after seeing it last night that "It's like if you're making a movie and you want Aniston, but can't afford Aniston, you get Christine Taylor, and if you don't tell people, they might not notice the difference."
The box at the end was great. The inspirational speech at the bar by one of the cameos was great. And the return of the woman from Guam and the aftermath with that was possibly the greatest triumphant ending in the history of movies.

Every time I watch "The Wedding Singer" and see Christine Taylor dressed in the classic 1980s-Madonna-wannabe look...*drool*...Yum. No way Robbie would've passed on hitting THAT, even if that was the cutest Drew Barrymore has ever looked in a movie.

Was it just me or was the Chearleader pregnant in the commercial for Average Joe's at the end of the movie? Was it intended to be a subtle joke of some kind?
I actually thought that the ending was kind of telegraphed way back in the beginning (with the "jackpot" comment, I believe), but then again, my friends didn't agree with me on that sentiment, so I might've been remembering it wrong.
OK movie. Rip Torn, Hasselhoff, and Lance Armstrong were the definite high points in the movie.
Also got a good chuckle out of "deus ex machina" being printed on the treasure chest. That's a really great sight gag that probably went over a lot of people's heads (or they just plain missed it).
I cannot belive nobody has mentioned the absolute BEST homage to a past movie that was included. "The Bad News Bears Go To The Astrodome" LET THEM PLAY chant!
Good Movie. But Taylor is looking like hell, although her in the leather was pretty sweet!
