Gangrel isn't back. He probably lives in the area, so they got him in a dark match. Same with Mideon. Neither have been rehired, nor should they be.

What? No one is talking about Norman Smiley in the dark match? The WWE needs the Big Wiggle!

Hey wait a minute, Mideon wasn't all that bad. Was he the ebst wrestler ever..no, but he can be put in some funny angles here and there. Make hi friends with Eugene or Stevie Richards, I think they can work well together.

I fail to see how anything on this show makes me want to see the PPV.

Rey vs. Chavo? Could be good, but weve seen it at least a dozen times already this year. A three-way with Spike or Noble, a ladder match... if theyre going to keep rehashing this, they need to at least change the stipulations to keep it fresh instead of just doing a straight one-on-one again and again.

Two thrown-together matches with no existing issue featuring a new guy who hasnt done anything but squash jobbers vs. an old guy who hasnt been over in years despite multiple upper-card pushes. Im sorry, but I honestly picture both of these as being the same match presented twice. If the old guys win, itll kill the momentum for the new guy. If the new guys win, no one cares.

Taker/Dudleys? It sounds like itll just be a sports-entertainment thing.

Torrie/Sable? Seen it already.

The four-way? It was most interesting match on the card, but they have the champ getting killed by someone not even involved in the match for two weeks in a row instead of further establishing his issues with the guys hes going to face.

Eddie/JBL? Its the most interesting feud by default, since its one of the only ones that theyve actually solidly established personal motivations for everyone involved, and theyve had enough time working together that it could be a decent match. I just hope Eddie doesnt kill himself.

The bottom line: only THREE of the seven matches have had any sort of buildup at all prior to the event (Taker/Dudleys, the Four-Way, and Eddie/JBL). Rey/Chavo has some history and circumstances, so Ill excuse that one, but the rest of the card... what the hell have they been doing for the past month?

WWE seriously needs to sit down, look at what they're next PPV is gonna' be, write down the entire card, and then build towards it. Because slapping together cards the week before the show (they did this exact same thing for Judgment Day) is just sloppy and bad booking.

The answer to WWE's financial problems...

WWE seems to have this "Dark Match" roster. I dunno how many times I've seen/read dark matches involving: Crowbar, Mideon, Norman Smiley, etc. I dont think they will ever actually HIRE any of these guys, but they sure dont mind them doing dark matches all the time.

There was a rumor awhile back that they were interested in Norman Smiley. He wouldn't be too bad as a mid-card face

Its the difference between bringing in someone whos an old friend of the boys, letting them come in and say hi, and throwing them a bit of work in front of their local crowds, versus realizing that these guys wont draw money and youre better off if you dont give them a long-term contract.

Holy, issues. When you miss a point, you really miss it! This is part of Taker's angle and emphasizes that Heyman's got so much power over Taker that he can make Taker a strong heel. Jesus, is it really that difficult to see the obvious?

Well, as far as Mideon goes, I still remember his Mick Foley impersonation during the SUPERB HHH/Cactus feud. He can be good when he wants to, so I'll reserve judgment. I just realized that this is the LONGEST I've ever went without watching Smackdown, EVER. Four and a half months. Wow. And those first four months were just because of my night job.

Honestly, I really don't understand why they keep doing this last minute thing with the PPV cards. It's a pain in the ass for those of us who CAN afford $35 a month. And Torrie and Sable? Hell, they'll kiss and make up at the end, so we shouldn't invest too much into that. Wow.

All I'll say is that I'm not surprised at any of this. At this rate, even if they do get better, and Raw starts to suck again, it's too little too late. This schizo crap is annoying me, and I'm sure many of you.

Did you READ the rest of the spoilers? I'd prefer to see these guys, who I haven't seen in a while, as opposed to the Gunns and Suzukis of the world.

You know what I'd love? A DVD or some kind of compilation of dark matches and try outs before TV tapings. I get a kick of out seeing these matches when I go to a TV taping. Its nice to see a simple wrestling match with guys you kinda know, but arent huge megastars.

I know it will never happen, but it would be kinda cool to see stuff you dont normally get to see on TV.

It's not even the issues as far as I'm concerned. I'm just tired of people yelling and screaming because someone they don't like booked THEMSELVES to win. How come none of these guys ever yell at Benoit when he books himself to lose? Or do you really think that Vince sat down with the Creative Department and told them to give the book to all the wrestlers that the people that post on the Wienerboard Forums don't like?

As far as I know, there's only one active wrestler who has any real power as far as that sort of thing goes, and everything to do with Triple H has been beaten to death at this point. Even if The Undertaker did have some sort of say, why should he turn down another win? How many times to you tell your boss at work that you want to give your promotion to the new schmuck down the hall because "I've been paid enough"? Until you start doing that, complaining that others aren't doing it is just hypocritical.

Vince has ALWAYS been very protective of The Undertaker's character as a dead-zombie guy that couldn't feel pain or be beaten. And since Cena isn't doing anything worth giving a shit about right now (seriously guys, if Cena was lighting the place on fire like everyone here seems to think he is, why is no one buying tickets or watching?) then why the hell not have him lose ONE match? Hell, maybe having him get his ass kicked soundly will at least wake up some of his fans.

Having him walk down to the ring, do a watered-down Sesame Street promo-rap and then easily beat Dupree with a GOD DAMNED FIREMAN'S CARRY week after week is only making him more boring.

If by "no one"...you mean "you"...then I guess you could be right. But Holly has been receiving excellent pops for well over 2 months now on Velocity...both with Billy Gunn and without...in fact its been pointed out several times here in several different threads. I can see them bringing Bob up to SD! to feud with one of the newer guys like Mordecai or Jindrak...either would be entertaining with the bitter old guy versus the crazy savior in white or the narcissistic punk. I do agree that the Mordecai fight at the PPV seems a bit off though...??unless Taker gets in there somehow??...I was actually expecting it to be Jindrak in the squared circle

So creating a couple of new feuds or letting the newer guys have a go at the older guys is not the worst idea around..

That award is reserved for Lita's baby...

Cheers,

Erin

I don't blame him. I'd book myself to win, too. Wait, yeah, I blame him. What I don't like is that he's got more than a decade's worth of credibility built up and he doesn't use it to help anybody else. Look at it historically, if you're an up-and-coming star, what's the best way to kill your momentum? Feud with the Undertaker.

What an odd question.

If he did, that would be fucking awesome. I understand WHY Vince protects him, I just see Undertaker as someone who's built up these huge reserves of capital and then just sits on his front porch with a shotgun and jealously guards it.

He's the guy who won the lottery and then moves to the suburbs and doesn't take his friends out to Golden Corral for a celebratory buffet. All I'm saying is that he should take John Cena out to the buffet. He doesn't even have to tip over 15 percent. John Cena can put away some chicken fried steak and biscuits. He just needs the chance.

I agree with The Asteroid Boy's overall point. Beating Cena was bad booking when you could've just as easily done a non-finish, especially since he'll probably get no retribution in the forseeable future. But at least they protected him with a visual win and a chainshot (and had a heck of a match too). You can kind of justify putting Taker over Cena is if he's going to be built up as the heel challenger for Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam. Which could be the case. I'm hoping.

I honestly don't have a problem with Taker going over Cena. But as has been said, it's just bad booking to do it on the show before a PPV, when both Cena and Taker have their own issues that they're supposed to be resolving. If an Undertaker heel turn is what they have in mind, then they could easily have done this match next week (when the Heyman thing will have been played out and we'll know for sure if Taker is supposed to be a face or a heel) and let Cena have a bit of momentum as champ going into his four-way match. Or go the opposite route but at least let it have been Booker or Dupree to get the pinfall, to put a bit more sizzle on their match.

And if you really want to get Taker out there as a heel, then there's this: have the actual WWE champ work a main-event match, and put Taker against Eddie in a non-title match. There's more drama in a softened Eddie up going into his one-on-one match than there is about a weakened Cena going into a match where the deck is stacked against him. Not to mention you can build up groundwork for a future Eddie/Taker feud over the title.
