maybe rock starting off the show kept people tuned in but it did a 4.2 off hours of 4.0 & 4.4!

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but don't the ratings usually go up in the summer when school is out?

No the summer is when the ratings/buyrates usually go down because people actually go outside...

I wouldn't hold the Rock to any high reason for the rating...I turned the channel more when he was on than at any other time because the first 5 min. of his promo meant jack shit...

People might have been expecting Rock to return during the show, which kept their interest. That, or people had a genuine interest in the product WWE was presenting last night.

The answer to WWE's financial problems...

Seriously; I can attribute the ratings to two things...

First is the Rock. I know some people dont like him (see "Y2J 420") or didnt like his promo or whatever, but he can hold the crowd and he did; specially because he was in his hometown Miami. This could have brought in high ratings from viewers in the Miami-Dade area- where I live (In a shadowy mountain shrine, of course)... and yes, they could have been expecting him to return later in the show to help Eugene or whatever.

This brings me to the second ratings booster- Eugene and his match against Triple H. Even people that really dont care about wrestling but have heard about Eugene (and believe the gimmick) must have tuned in for the match... and kept watching because for a while it seemed Eugene might win... other than that, I zoned off for most of the show- or ate cookies and milk.

Eugene equals ratings. Y'know I'm right.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I want to argue this, but I fear it might be true.

It's almost pure genius! The gimmick is entertaining and not to the point of making fun of people with disablities, handicaps, or abnormalites. I'm not physically disabled but I do have an learding disorder (LD) in reading and english. I relate to Euegene because I'm not that strong in those areas of life but I am in others.

The whole concept of him being able to wrestle while being "dumb" or "playing dumb" the rest of the time is PURE GOLD. So I'm not going guarantee that the Eugene character "equals rating" but I would bet my bottom dollar that he is grabbing a portion some portion of the audience at this time. It will only remain to see if he's a long term attention grabber even with the popularity that he has garnered thus far.

In relation to this post please read the article that was posted eariler this week here on (the-W) http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=20645 if you already haven't because it makes the character more tangible.

A bit more info on the Raw rating from the Torch "WWE Raw drew a strong 4.2 rating on Monday night, peaking with a stellar 5.1 for the overrun with Eugene vs. Triple H. The rating build throughout the show, beginning with a 3.5 rating in Q1 and growing every quarter hour for one 0.1 drop in Q4."

Doing a 4.2 with hours of [4.0 & 4.4,(5.1-OR)] way up from last weeks 3.6 [3.4 & 3.8,(4.2-5Q)]... I do think the Rock had a lot to do with the rating as the second hour 0.4 overall spike is similar to previous weeks, they just had a bigger audience from the beginning. This is the second straight time The Rock appearance made a huge difference in the ratings.

**June 24, Smackdown Ratings Added**

If anyone is interested in SD ratings from the Torch -"Last night's Smackdown drew a 3.1 Nielson Media Research rating, up from last week's 3.0 and the same as the 3.1 from two weeks ago... The rating grew throughout the show, beginning at a 2.5 and ending at a strong 3.7 for Undertaker vs. John Cena in the main event."

Smackdown did a 3.1 with hours of (2.9 & 3.4) which is up from last weeks 3.0 (2.7 & 3.3)... 8-9 ABC "Who's line" had a 0.7 higher rating hen SD. BUT 9-10 SD defeated ABC "Kingdom Hospital" by a huge 1.1. If you took both hours into consideration SD on UPN slightly edges out ABC from 8 to 10. With SD having a 3.1 to ABC 3.0.

**Last Weekend Ratings** (brackets week before)

Velocity 0.5(0.5).. Experience 0.5(0.6).. Heat 0.7(0.8).

EDITED BY THE FCC:

Aye; the Undertaker vs Cena match was the only good booking I've seen on Smackdown! for a while... I think its because they're the two highest-rated wrestlers on Smackdown (like it or not), so putting them in a match together is common sense.

Of course I guess those foolish Smackdown writers have to have some common sense every once in a while....

EDIT: I also can attribute some ratings to Kenzo Suzuki finally being in a match thats not a cruiserweight squash,
still- it could have been more interesting;

The Mordecai fight with Holly seemed slapped together at the last minute and him saying "Im gonna crucify you!" was part of his character, but still just didnt seem right...

I've seen the poster though I don't have the link, and yes Austin is on it. I saw it WAY earlier in the week though - so they clearly made it before his walk out. There's no reason to read anything into this.
