^^^^ Even if you like the Lakers, this is probably a good thing. They need a lot of new blood in there.

*Edit*

Start placing your bets as to which Pistons player will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel's show.

No you have it all wrong. I hate the Lakers and liked having Shaq, Kobe, Malone, Fox, and Payton all on one team. I didn't have to spread my hate around.

Sign of the night: World Championship Rings: Darko 1, Mailman 0.

That third quarter was about as dominating a quarter of basketball that I've seen in quite some time. At one point, it looked like a quarter of NBA Live. I think they showed a graphic at the end of the quarter that had the Pistons on a 22-6 run. Amazing.

Speaking of Darko, could he have LOOKED more bored to be on the floor at the end of the game? The place seemed to be jacked for him to score, and he's getting his pocket picked.

LOL at that Darko/Mailman sign. Cruel...but still funny.

And regarding Darko not scoring...I guess I'm not surprised. He had to be nervous as hell because that place would have went (even more) insane than it already was. Oh well. Can't have EVERYTHING be perfect in one night I guess.

Big props & congrats to the Pistons. I thought they'd never do it & they proved me wrong.

Now that THAT'S out of the way, I'm really excited to see what the Lakers do this summer. Should be interesting.

Wow, I must say that J.T. Dutch and DJ Frosty Freeze are showing a ton of class right now with their signatures.

I, too, must tip my hat to the Pistons, who worked extremely hard to get to where they are. They deserve to be the NBA Champions, and hey... it's nice to see someone take down the Lakers dynasty. Although whether it's for good or only temporary, we'll have to see.

I still believe that with one more piece in the offseason, the Pacers are going all the way in 2004-05, belee 'dat, playa.

But in the meantime, congratulations to the Detroit Pistons, the 2003-04 NBA World Champions.

Man, could David Stern be any less happy for Detroit winning the title? He couldnt pump them up any in his speech, kept talking about how everybody thought the Lakers would be champs and how it was the Lakers who lost, not how the Pistons handed them thier asses. Not how the Pistons ran circles around the Lakers. Not how the Pistons dominated the boards and not the Lakers. No love from the commish, and people wonder why this league has lost it's luster. I pointed out before how the league banked on superstars winning all the time, and not on actual basketball skill. This proves my point somewhat. The frieking commisioner of the league could not even congradulate them in a decent fasion without talking about his precious Lakers.

Oh and could Al Michaels be any more clueless? "when was the last time a rebounder knew exactly where a ball was going to be all the time, and dominated a series like this?" I instantly said out loud "DENNIS RODMAN, JACKASS!" and about half a second later, his broadcast partner said "Uh, Dennis Rodman?" as if to say "Do you even frieking WATCH basketball?"

Another thing, Al, when the game clock hits zero, shut the hell up and let the cheers of the crowd and the players happiness and celebrations talk for themselves. I dont need, nor want COMMENTARY on them being happy. SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY and let the moment sink in.

That is all.
Oh, is anything burning in Detroit yet?

Some fireworks, that's about it.

I don't get what's up with Stern. I'd think he would be extremely happy, the Pistons have led the NBA in attendance the last two years.

Agreed on Michaels. What an idiot. This was his first time announcing the NBA playoffs and damn was it obvious.

It was the Power of the 'Fro that won this series - Ben let loose the cornrows and the Pistons won 3 in a row - it was a fun series to watch from a Laker-Hater standpoint - should be interesting to watch the off-season maneuvering on the left coast.

Pandemonium. Pure nirvana. Watching the Pistons win this and celebrating downtown with hundreds of thousands of other maniacs was one of the greatest sports moments of my life. Especially since the Bad Boys won their 2 championships on the road. And *gasp*... no riots!!

All that's left is to line Woodward tomorrow and pay tribute to one of the best NBA teams I've ever seen. Me and a million of the best basketball prognosticators in the world.

Pistonmania running wild!!

EDIT: Oh sweet Jesus, they're having the parade down Jefferson right in front of the RenCen and my office directly overlooks that street. This rules.

Al Michaels ought to stick to football. Period. He has no business calling another basketball game ever again. You couldn't sit through a telecast without him making an unnecessary reference to another sport for no reason whatsoever. I miss the days of Marv Albert and THE CZAR. ABC's coverage is beyond horrible.

Oh, and congrats to the Pistons. NUGGETS IN 2005 (no not really).

The Al Michaels moment of the entire series was when watching the replay of Kobe Bryant get a technical in game four, he believed it was Kobe getting a second technical and then tried to play it off like that wasn't what he thought and that Kobe was still arguing on the court when they cut back to him standing in position at the free-throw line. Classic, classic stuff. Michaels is suffering from Madden's Syndrome it would seem, where announcers become prone to randomly referencing things and making illogical statements that hinder the quality of the viewing experience. Although nothing could've hindered the quality of the snuff film that was last night's game. Now the cycle has to be completed: Kobe convicted, Shaq gets asassinated at Euro-Disney, Karl Malone begs Stockton for forgiveness only to be decapitated with a kitana sword, and Gary Payton is poisoned by a pair of mis-manufactured garden gloves while trying to start a ring garden in his backyard. Maybe Karl's daughter will let him touch her WNBA ring. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FINEST TEAM PERFORMANCE I'VE SEEN IN BASKETBALL IN A GREAT LONG TIME. And the wonderful thing is that there isn't just one player you can sing the praises of, you have to go down the line: Campbell, Wallace, Wallace, Hamilton, Billups, Okur (with his awesome EUROPEAN LOOSE CANNON routine let loose in the late second quarter), Prince, Hunter, James, and Williamson all contributed to their playoff successes. And now Darko "I wear eightballs of coke as earrings" Milicic has a ring before any of the other vaunted NBA rookies of 2004. What a wonderful thrashing by a true throwback to the days of a team, and not selfish 4-23 shooting and get-myself-into-a-corner ball handling. No amount of congratulations would begin to do justice.

Since it's had a day to sink in it bothers me even more.

The morning radio show here that is #1 in this area (Drew & Mike for those of you in SE Michigan) brought up an excellent point while going through some parts of the game on the air this morning. Almost every major championship victory has a memorable call (or two...or eight) during the final game. Al Michaels basically gave us NOTHING to go back and remember. What a fucking clueless asshole, seriously.

A transcript of the last 5 seconds:

Deadpan, uninterested voice: Rick Fox ending the game hunched over his former teammate Lindsey Hunter and congratulating him as the clock ticks down...and the Detroit Pistons (loud noise from pyro goes off) ...and wow...who won the...who won the NBA championship in 89 and 90...and the CRAZIES just have to stop blowing up stuff in indoor buildings before we have a disaster...thank you comissioner...but the Detroit Pistons have just shocked the Los Angeles Lakers 100-87 to win the NBA title.

Arguably the biggest upset in finals history, and all Michaels can do is talk about Rick Fox bending over Lindsey Hunter and the "crazies" causing a disaster with their loud noises. Gee, they just won a fucking world championship, you think mmmmayyyybe they'd set off some pyro or something to celebrate.

What was that thing about wanting Karl Malone to rot in hell or whatever on page 1? Can we replace Malone with Michaels?

That was basically the whole game. Whenever the Pistons did something that made the crowd flip out, Michaels would give a half-assed remark about it, then disregard it and talk about something unrelated to the game.

I need to find a copy of this game. I only taped the 4th quarter for some reason. The 3rd quarter was where the majority of the oustanding play was...er, by the Pistons at least.

So that part wasnt enough for you?

It seems like you'll never be happy with anyone else's reaction to this series until we're all standing in line to let each Piston bend us over & publicly kick us (us = the public in general) in the ass for daring to doubt them.

My dad and I both noticed this last night.

And Al Michaels by himself at his worst is still a hundred times better than the Lakers' radio team.

He said it with all the enthusiasm and conviction of a Lita interview, so no, it wasn't. This was not an isolated incident, he was horrible through EVERY GAME OF THE SERIES.

Sorry, if someone punches me in the face a dozen times, then hands me a nickel and says "sorry" before proceeding to punch me in the face a dozen more times....the nickel and apology don't really make up for it.
