Lindsay Lohan is HOT!

Total screw up on Debbi Downer's skit. Everyone just broke down laughing. I love skits like that where nothing goes right.

All in all, good show.

Yes Lohan is hot.

But I cannot really stand SNL anymore. It seems that they are always breaking character and laughing these days. I tend to stick with just Mad TV these days.

Reminds me when I was watching the short lived Spike TV cartoon "This Just In" and they turn on NBC where SNL is on and they are doing the "Weekend Update" part where Jimmy Fallon just won't stop laughing tell he says something to the degree of "Please don't switch over to MAD TV we will be funny again soon!" and Tina Fey goes "And we'll be back next week where I will get all the funny lines since I am the head writer!"

Yeah, but Mad TV has seen better days too. They show episodes from the first two seasons now and then on Comedy Central and boy, I had forgotten about some of the great bits they had done (X-news, anyone?) and quality people they had (especially Phil Lamarr, Orlando Jones, and Artie Lange).

Somewhat on topic - on last night's show they had the same thing happen with Mo Collins on the Game Show sketch. I have to admit, these sketches are my favorite, especially the interaction between Paul Vogt and (whoever does the *awesome* job as the announcer - "I'm on ecstasy!!!"). Poor Mo kept busting up trying to keep a straight face!

As for SNL, I loved the Debbie Downer bit as well - Rachel Dratch tried so very hard to stay with it! Horatio Sanz didn't seem like he was trying very hard at all the whole night.

And yes, Lindsay Lohan is hot. And either she is pretty tall, or Chris Parnell is a midget. (Yes, I know those were some serious heels she had on for the intro.)

Wheel of Morality, turn turn turn. Tell us the lesson that we should learn.

The Harry Potter sketch and the MTV Movie Awards in the same week?

Lindsay's trying to kill me. But what a way to go!

I was actually upset at the Debbie Downer skit. It wasn't because of the skit itself, but because this was one of the better premises I have ever seen on SNL. They haven't come up with many good skits for awhile, but that skit had potential. So while I'm laughing hard at the crack-ups, I'm also sad because that is the next good long-running bit, and they may have ruined it.

The Harry Potter skit was the only other bit worth anything, and it was classic. The addition of Severus was inspired.

And just remember this if you are not happy with the characters always losing their composure...Fallon is NOT going to be on next year. WHOO!

Joe Wilson (looking at Interocitor manual)- Hey, here's something my wife could use in the house...
Crow T. Robot- A man?
Joe Wilson- An interocitor incorporating an electron sorter.
Cal Meechum- Oh, she'd probably gain 20 pounds while it did all the work for her.
Tom Servo- Cal, you bitch!

I will miss Fallon to a degree. Yeah he's lousy on Weekend Update and the "NOMAAAHH" skits got old 2 years ago, but I loved his DJ character.

That was great. I've grown to like the Lillian Verner game show skits, actually. I really started off not liking them. But I was disappointed with the Lorraine skit from last night. That's one of my favortie characters on MADTV.

Agreed! I think it was when Ben Affleck was on that I really enjoyed the bit where Affleck took it to him verbally. It was also great when he made Nick Lachey out to be gay. I thought his job on Weekend Update was okay.

Debbie Downer was a funny premise, but the camera work really, really echoed Fred Armisen's Telemundo host sketches. Dialogue, then EXTREME CLOSE-UP OF WACKY EXPRESSION!!

geemoney - I think the only Lorraine sketch I ever liked was her at the Vegas buffet. The only character I dislike more is Mike McDonald as Stuart *shudder*. Aries Spears as Shaq never gets old, though.

Here's the problem with MadTV....whenever they have a crack-up in the middle of a sketch, there's no reason for it. They are a taped, edited show; mistakes can be reshot. SNL, of course, is live, so when it happens every once in a while (Horatio and Jimmy go overboard) it's kind of fun. MadTV is just trying to create the same anything-can-happen vibe that SNL has thrived on for the past thirty years.

MadTV has had some very talented people on it (most of the original cast, Mo Collins, Alex Borstein), but the writing is just not very good. SNL's writing is far from being perfect, but their best is classic, whereas their worst is usually just forgettable. MadTV's material is much less frequently great, and at their worst it's terrible.
