I know there was a fairly good sized group here that was into Joe Schmo last time around. The new season starts next Tuesday at 10PM. If you want a preview (with some minor spoilers), you can find one here (fansofrealitytv.com).

Also the DVD release of season 1 is due out later this month with a decent pile of special features.

My wife and I have never had any interest in the reality shows, but Joe Schmo is the only one we did end up watching. I just wish this wasn't running up against the new episodes of Mythbusters (at least both shows will probably reair several times during the week).

This is the only reality show that's worth it's salt, mainly because it goes about the processing of skewering the other reality shows.

Every time I see the picture of Ralph with that British getup on, it cracks me up.

I'm pretty sure, after looking at SpikeTV's subsite, that they may be using the same set used for the 1st Season this time. That fireplace looks awfully familiar.

Grimis, I agree with your statement. Along those lines, I caught "WB Superstar" which is a reverse "American Idol". Sort of a guilty pleasure and it shows how delusional we can be.

I'm just wondering how they can get away with fooling someone again after the last Joe Schmo.

I'm guessing that the first one was shot and in between the first season shoot and when it aired that they shot a second season. But I have no facts to back this up.

But also, remember this is Spike TV. It's possible some people never heard of the Joe Schmo Show or even the network. Especially the happy hour crowd, which this guy is apparently part of.

I'm glad this guy doesn't seem as likable as Matt from last season. It will be easier to hate him.

I haven't seen much about the Jane Schmo in this season however...

Given the inane stuff on some other shows, the number of people who jsut want to be on TV will probably make it believable for anybody.

* * * * * * *

For decades, American had waged a Cold War, and few believed it could possibly end in our own lifetimes. The president was one of those few. And it was the vision and the will of Ronald Reagan that gave hope to the oppressed, shamed the oppressors and ended an evil empire . . . Ronald Reagan was more than a historic figure. He was a providential man who came along just when our nation and the world most needed him.

Fellow Americans, here lies a graceful and a gallant man.

I seem to recall that Brian said they were considering a 2nd season in a radio interview that aired just before the finale ran, but since the first one took a year's worth of preparation, they had to have had some plans in the works.

I don't have cable yet, but I did like the first season, so I am curious about this one. I too was under the impression, Joe Schomo 2 had one girl and guy who thought it was real. I could be wrong though.

I really liked the first season, which was rather surprising considering I can't stand any other reality show. This weekend on Spike they are running a marathon to get ready for the premiere of the second season. It should be good.

Hell, from the promos it looks like they're using the same damn mansion. (Which also doubled as the evil Mexican drug lords' mansion in the recently concluded series of 24. Busy place.)

As hard as it is to believe, not everybody's pulse is glued to the happenings of Spike TV. A lot of these reality contestants apply based on a friend's recommendations, or just as something fun to do over the weekend. For example, Fear Factor just had a tryout here this weekend, and I'll bet a number of people never saw or heard of the show.

So the first episode was tonight...

Funniest. Thing. Ever.

Sorry, but I couldn't stop laughing. I LOVED the first one, so every time Ralph was onscreen I couldn't control myself. The spoofing of dating reality shows is spot on...

There's gotta be some sort of a screening process in regards to whether or not the actors playing the parts are recognizable. The chick that plays "the Bitch" was in my mom's soap opera (yeah...my mom's soap opera, that's it...) "The Young and the Restless" and she was also in that horrible, but addicting in a so bad it's good way "Black Scorpion" show that was on SciFi and syndicated a few years back. And looking at IMDb, the guy who is "the playah" was in "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and "Moesha". Sure, not hugely popular shows, but the whole show could have been blown if one of the schmoes recognized them.

Of course, I didn't watch the show (NBA Finals and the Shield), so I don't know if they explained how the process worked.

And the Gotta Be Gay Guy is fairly well known up here...appearing on quite a few Canadian TV shows over the years.

I think it would be funny as all hell if they kicked Ingrid off next week. Why did they pick her when all she does is question everything going on? They must have known she was going to be a problem before they started.

The producers are just giving her ammunition with the model who almost screwed up the show before it got started by telling Ingrid that her agent got her the gig. And it was all so they could set up a way over the top spoof of reality love shows by kicking off 6 minorities.

In other news, Tim has a lot of the same qualities as Matt. He does seem like more of a prick though. I also love how they have Matt infamous "What is going on" as a soundbite at the end of the show, that never fails to crack me up.

That's pretty much a "trademark" of Spike...you'll hear it at the end of their original programming.

I really try to be selective and only post when I have something informative or original to say, but I just can't resist here.

DAMN! Ingrid is hot. I mean, am I the only one thinking that right now? I think she puts Piper to shame.

That's all, nothing much else to add.

Bullit I recognized "Gotta Be Gay Guy" right away. I went hey that's Jonathan Whats-his-name. From afternoon Canadian talk show Jono-vision and great consumer program Street Cents... The show was good but not as instant addictive as Joe Schmo 1. I think the Joe/Jane(Tim/Ingrid) are equal to Matt. I think the actors/characters are weaker in JS2

This is really the case on the female side. There's no Sweet naive Virgin-Molly or Dr. Pat who were both very interesting and funny really early. In JS2 the only female that intrigues me at all is Ingrid(the actual non-actor)... You have Drunk-Girl, she was funny but that didn't have much staying power as after a while you can see threw that (as Ingrid already did). The-Bitch really had nothing on her yet, but it's still early. Dumb-Blonde is not that original a character, but I think it's got a place so Ingrid wondering how she can measure up (humm) to her. The Cry-Baby looks like it has some potential to be funny as she plays up as the desperate emotional wreck. Her departure hopefully late in the season should be epic.

The guys are more even to JS1, even though I think JS1 had more depth. Creepy-Guy is a fun character (Tim asks how did he get through screening LoL). Kinda-Gay is being played well, he's not going too over the top. Plus added bonus that I know the guy! Yeah I like this character, first time thought he was going to be a pain but slowly Tim started liking him as it seems as he might be Tim's friend... It slips after those two The-Playah is something we've seen, he might fall under "The-Bitch" category of being more interesting later, but not really feeling him now. The-Heir who had a bit of camera time but didn't make me really interested in him.

The Bachelor and Bachelorette seems like real seems like the easiest rolls to play. Little interaction and just look pretty. They really did a funny twist right off the bat with the Bachelor/Bachelorette getting rid of all the "ethnics". That got me rolling "OMG potential racist here LoL". Tim holding in laughter during the necklace ceremony. The gifts segment was good, the women gifts were particularly funny Cry-baby seemed so desperate. I liked Ingrid reaction to Dumb-Blonde giving the guy a cell phone. The guys seemed a little weaker, Tim kind of came off as a jerk dissing Kinda-Gay's gift (Matt would NEVER do that) as Tim gift wasn't any great shakes either, family photos? Drunk-Girl is really playing it over the top at the opening get together. Creepy-Guy is playing his part perfectly looking out the balcony at the hot tub but all people for Ingrid to confide in was Creepy-Guy?

Ingrid does seem a little too smart for ths show. Matt seemed real trusty and naive. Tim seems to be just happy to be there and just taking everything in stride. Ingrid is someone who says watches these shows (okay maybe she's not that smart LoL) and is out there really trying, observing and questioning everything. I hope she stays on but I can see them eliminating her for asking too many questions as they don't Tim not to start thinking as well. I wonder how that will effect the other actors, with Ingrid off would the defocus on the male or female actors. The Bachelor will obviously have no role & the females actors will have less of a focus as well... But we'll get that bridge if it happens. I'll watch the show, doesn't look as strong as JS1 but it's still something I'll watch. I can totally see a swerve with the Bachelor & Bachelorette hooking up leaving the "contestants" angry as hell.
