There seems to be a lot more things we're not aloud to talk about these days. Do subjects like Reagan and Bradshaw irritate you because we are to dumb to talk about them, or are you trying to give the board a more sanitized look now that there are sponsers?

I know this board sort of plays to your ego, but why not just make it exclusive to you, the guys in green, and the DVDR guys? I just feel like posting on this board is like walking on egg shells a lot of times and it seems to me that a lot of people here post what they think you want to hear instead of what they really might want to say.

The Reagan and Bradshaw threads may be a bad example for what I'm trying to say, but I feel that the discussion now suffers. It could also be that the majority of the people who post on the board have conformed to the general idea that is CRZism, while the rest have left frustrated. Keep in mind I'm not talking about the 10 post idiots who get banned, but people who have made an effort to post their opinion. It just seems like clones and kissers of the ass are now okay, but anyone with something different to say is a zero. I could be wrong and I've now shattered my point into a bunch of little fragments. It could be message boards change you gotta find one that fits you, this one used to fit me pretty well is all.

I think the Bradshaw & Reagan threads were just getting a little repetitive is all, everybody saying the same stuff over & over. Closing those threads for that reason may be a little harsh, but I've found that telling people "Dont post in here unless you have something semi-new to add" doesnt always do the trick.

I couldn't agree with you more, Loco.

Several months back I made the mistake of disagreeing with certain people and then (gasp) standing behind my original idea. Since then everything I say gets hammered, even if several other people (non-descenters I guess) are saying things in the same line of thinking. Oh, I also got blessed with some weird custom user rank that I'm sure is derogatory and also absolutely hilarious to the people IN THE KNOW.

That being said...the bulk of the people who hang out here are fun and have a good humor about them and, in general, I enjoy passing slow times at work by reading their posts. I used to enjoy participating in that conversation (as my 900-plus posts from the last two or three years probably proves). But anymore, it's just not worth it. I'm sure that absolutely thrills certain people.

Anyhow, I finally decided to just create another user name that has no attached "stigma" and come on the W to read the posts of other people, but not post myself.

I've also searched the net for other sites...off topic and a few others have been ok, but I guess I feel like I already know a lot of the other posters here. And I guess it would feel too much like starting over to just go somewhere else. But maybe it will come to that. Oh well.

As someone who likely would have said nasty things about Ronnie, I have to say I am not that sad to see no threads about that. As for why...check out Scott Keith's blog to see what kind of chaos speaking ill of RR has gone and provoked. Not that the good people of the W are anything like the LJ denizens, but I think it still bears considering. That is one thread that would only be able to become name-calling once it started.

The Bradshaw thing...I think in light of recent events (the pulled WWE apology, the CNBC firing) it wouldn't be wrong to have another thread open...perhaps if WWE takes any action of their own then a new thread will pop up and not be shut down...or not. Who knows?

Hmm... let's take the average dialogue of a shut down thread.

squirrelnuts: Hey did you see what a WWE Superstar/politician/CRZ did?
Ilivewithmymother: I can't believe that guy!
StuffedShirt: I am offended.
Newbie: What are you talking about.
Iposttoodamnmuch: What a WWE Superstart/politician/CRZ did. (link)
Hasntseendaylightinyears: I don't think it was a big deal. You people are making a big deal out of nothing.
Youallsuck: I agree with Ilivewithmymother.
Iamimportant: (quotes a three response series of messages) Word.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

#1: Allowed, not aloud.

#2: I gave "The Amazing Salami" the custom title. I also just took it away. Yes, it amused me to do this.

#3: To the amazing Salami in specific, but to everyone in general: If you stop posting content, but start posting meta-content (Loudly disparaging the rules of the board, commenting on other people's content, etc) it generally draws the ire of the admins. In my case specifically, I was annoyed at your constant whining about how we were out to get you, even though we weren't. I'm still not sure how you got that in your mind, but you've been pretty paranoid about it for a while and I'm tired of seeing it. Your continuted attempt at martyrdom is also pretty tired. Maybe you need to take a break from the board on your own, and come back when you realize that this board is a very small part of the day for us, and each person is a smaller part of that small part - and that we don't really take any time to worry about each of you individually.

#4: You can pretty much talk about the same stuff you always have. I've never been for discussions about breaking the law. Now, I have a more concrete reason to stop it. I've also never been too keen on the porno posts, and now we are blocking those. I'm sorry if that's too repressive for you - but honestly it's not like you guys are posting art nudes that you photographed - you're ripping off copyrighted adult material and posting it here, which breaks two rules for our ad agreement.

$5: I'll pull all of the ads off of the site if you guys want to pay for it all. As it is, we are only losing 2/3 of our operating costs (without accounting for our time - which is not really fair since I'd be billing anyone else at least $50/hr for my time). We're not making any profit at all, so I'd appreciate if you'd all just shut up about the ads and new rules, and just deal with them. It's not like you even see the ads - we're only serving them to unregistered viewers. I'm not asking you to thank us, just stop talking about it because it's really not that much of an issue for you guys.

#6: I've got other crap to deal with other than people that don't like the board right now. Quit your bitching, stop trying to get banned, and everything will work out ok. If you have a problem with a post that a Mod deleted, let me know and I'll look into it. We can still read every deleted post - generally I check them - and 99% of the time the post sucked. I'm sorry if you don't want to hear that, but classless posts or stupid redundant posts are going to get the axe and that's that. Also, and I'm speaking to everyone here, your jokes usually aren't funny.

#7: If we couldn't handle dissenting opinion, most of you would already be gone. See the politics folder if you need any proof of that.

#8: If you have any constructive, non-paranoid criticism, please post it in this thread. I'll consider each response.

My name is Justin Shapiro and I closed a thread. It was the Hogan one. Maybe it was too quick? I thought it was going around in circles that were made especially pointless when the (imposed) last post was the first one that pointed out that Vince wasn't even interested. But I get easily frustrated, so I try not to use the extra buttons too much. Cuz I figure I was given this huge responsibility so that I can ban TROLLS, not so I can cull the collective when I find something to be ... retarded. It's not my place! I do like < striking > 411wrestling as a source though.

I shut down the "Bradshaw fired by CNBC" thread because it was already posted by CRZ in a thread that he himself ended. Everybody happy?

I came to the W shortly after the move from EZBoard. As you can see from my post count, I don't say very much. It's just not in my nature to post much, even though I talk incessantly.

With that in mind, I love to come here and read some of the folders. Occasionaly, I am moved to post, but only if I feel that I can add content other than "Yeah!". I have noticed that some people however, feel the need to post every bleeding thought that bypasses their brain. This is common to most message boards. What makes the W unique is the tight rein that the Zeds and their enforcers keep on the repetitive posts and the dumb posts, which are not always the same thing.

Ultimately, I guess I'm just trying to say that I like the way things are run and that it is hard for me to find something to complain about on a FREE message board.

I wasn't bothered in the first place. I just wonder if the discussion might not have gone in a different direction (impact of publicity on WWE) especially now that AP is going to be picking up the story. Seemed like odd timing to shut down a thread just as large events of interest surrounding it were happening. But having reread the thread, I can't say I much lament its passing.

I'm pretty sure NOBODY ever thinks "is this what CRZ wants to hear?" before they hit the reply button...unless it's causing them to NOT post something stupid, but I don't see a lot of evidence of this. ;-)

Would you rather have more closed/banished/deleted threads or more banned users?

One of the reasons I promoted Justin and Scott (and encouraged Cubs) was that they're all intelligent cats who can save us a lot of grief by helping me prune some of the chaff - there's always been a lot of chaff - out of the Wrestling folder. They also have spent a lot of time with me in the virtual sense and we share a lot of ideas about what's Stupid, Needs To Go and what Can Be Closed After The FACTS Are Shared. Yeah, *occasionally* something gets cut NOW that would have gone a lot further when there were less moderators looking at it. You can call that "degradation" or you can call it "improvement."

Have I unwittingly run off someone who would have been a valuable asset to the community? Yeah, probably. Do I have any idea? Nope. If I REALLY REALLY missed somebody, I would track them down via IM or email and ask them what happened, if there was something I can do, if they'd please come back. I don't think I've EVER done this. (I may goad Frank into slumming it here now and then, but that's not the same thing. ;-) ) If you're missing somebody, you also can utilize the IM and the email...plus, if they don't come back, you can at least find out if they ARE posting somewhere else and then add THAT place to your bookmarks.

I like to think that for the most part I'm pretty open about my "style" and how things happen. I get plenty of private feedback and try to respond candidly - you won't see it publicly and that's how I want it, 'cause it can get really boring when "discussion" ends up dominated by meta-discussion. To my knowledge, I have never banned anyone for questioning me (in public OR private) unless they were also simultaneously asking for the banning by some other aspect of their text/behaviour.

I am not unapproachable - my screen name and email address are in my profile. PMs to me still get delivered and read and hopefully answered. If I don't answer, you can ask me again...sometimes things fall through the cracks.

Blah blah blah me me me. One last thing:

This point may already have been driven into the ground since the initial post, but sometimes a lot of "us" just seem to be posting for the sake of posting. Lord knows I never log out around here, but damn if something DOESN'T always need to be commented on. It really is safe to assume why most posts get deleted/posters get banned.
BigDaddyLoco, I know you weren't implying everyone at the ol' W kissed ass and walked on ye olde eggshells but it really isn't hard to not get yelled at around here. I've been gotten on to by CRZ once, for a suitable reason mind you, and I have yet to sit here and kiss ass so I could stay in anyone's favor. Of course I also don't have 2,000(+) posts about absolutely nothing either.
Anyhoo, to make a long story short (too late) ask yourself before posting if what you have to add is even necessary. And after that maybe STILL don't post it because eventually someone will anyway and the whole point will become moot. Keep in mind this isn't a personal attack on anyone or anything just as it isn't me coming to the defense of CRZ, as lord knows he doesn't need me to do that.

Agreed, and believe me, this isn't the only place where the Bradshaw and Reagan discussions got extremely repetitive.

Then why aren't the three times monthly "time to end the brand split" threads ever closed---People go on and on as if there is a dialogue in WWE about doing it and it just is not going to happen for the time being. That would be my constructive criticism, stop those annoying threads from popping up. Outlawing fantasy booking but not fantasy news is nonsensical.

Then there's your ECW to return threads. Jericho has a thread on about 2 out of every 3 pages, but surpsingly the Helmsley is an evil man threads have been on the light side lately ... unless they are being shutdown without me noticing which is okay with too. If you start skimming the pages in the wrestling folder you can really see how short our memory span seems to be.

I have been banned numerous times with various usernames, and admittedly with good reason. I have come to realize that this board actually has intelligent and intruiging discussions, which I wasn't really making an efort to contribute to. I made the mistake of being immature and posting poinless threads, as well as redundant.
By the way JM Shapiro, I think you were wrong in closing out the Hogan thread because it was way too soon and it was getting alot of interesting feedback. What difference does it make how Hogan got the message to Vince, whether via a mutual friend or on his machine? The point is Hogan wants back in and is sending feelers, Mcmahon is aware of it. I think it's new worthy and shouldn't have been closed. My posts on it were meant sincere, and I was speaking as a long time fan. I don't feel it was cause to close he thread, I was just having some fun with it.
