i was kind of disappointed to find out that it was cancelled when watching it the other night. i realize espn cut down on the number of games from last year, and now nbc will take over for abc's share of games whenever "next season" is. i won't miss melrose, but buccigross and ferraro really seemed to have good chemistry.
just seems odd they'd cancel the show since espn was broadcasting nba2tonight and nba matchup several years before they even had actual nba games on tv.
Marge: Mr. Scorpio, this house is almost too good for us. I keep expecting to get the bums rush. Scorpio: We don't have bums in our town, Marge, and if we did, they wouldn't rush, they'd be allowed to go at their own pace.
If you look at it from a business standpoint I'm sure NHL tonight barley made a blip on the cable ratings. Fact is if the league as a whole gets bad ratings and is a chore for the network to air why would they bother airing a recap show for the hardcore fans anyway? The reason for the NBA highlight shows is that there are more highlights to show in basketball games even the bad ones. Hockey game you have say 6 goals and maybe 4 good saves total, doesn't make for good highlights so ESPN makes perfect sense to me canceling the show.
Plus, ESPN has spent a ton of money with their "Hockey: Made In America" ad campaign and apparently it hasn't helped the ratings of their hockey programming. At some point they have to stop throwing big money at something that isn't going to work right now.
Guys...you can't contract teams AND get a cap. How do you think the NHLPA will accept a salary cap and the contraction of, say, 6 teams (that means that about 180 players will lose their job). No way they will ever sign that.
