From pwinsider.com:

This week’s edition of Raw did a 4.0 cable rating, with a 6.1 share, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is up from last week’s 3.4. The show did hours of 3.6 and 4.4.

That's a pretty significant jump from the first hour to the next... the Rock's surprise appearance must have kept viewers tuned in, and they followed that up immediately with the battle royal (and numerous commercials) right after that segment instead of some worthless bathroom break match.

Well let's also note that last week, the world heavyweight champion, Chris Benoit, was not on the show. No interview, no match or anything, just a video. This week he was on the show in a great tag team title match .

Some more stuff:

The highest rated segment was a strong 4.9 for the overrun. The Eugene/Rock segment did a 4.6.

Benoit being on the show certainly helped, but I think that starting the tag title match at around 9:45 hurt it, because the big things that happen on RAW happen at the beginning, middle, and end of the show... 9:45 is a pretty awkward position to have your World champion wrestle in.

Not really. That first hour rating stunk.

Scott Christ has gained a lot of fans in Australia recently. They never seem to stay around for too long...for some reason.

Oh c'mon, I could say "Well, Triple H was mentioned through-out the show, and was one of the big stars left in the battle royal, so it's obvious that HE'S the reason that ratings go up"

It's obvious people are just picking their favorites because they choose to omit what the guys they didn't like were or weren't doing at the time.

Back when Nitro was on at the same time, it really worked well to go back and forth and see what people were watching because they WERE switching back and forth as the show went on. With just the one show, you're getting people that join in after they're done watching Everybody Loves Raymond or after CSI or whatever is on at the time. I don't think anyone has an implant in their heads that magically tells them which wrestler just appeared on channel 16 and forces them to change the channel RIGHT then. They're either watching the show (the show, not the wrestlers) or their not. Now that there's no competition, you have to look at week by week and look for trends over time. I think Hurrikane's got it right, that this week was just because The Rock showed up, and that kept people's attention, and they didn't piss that attention away immediately by spending a segment having Stacy come out to pimp some DVD we should all buy for $30.

The Neilson ratings system just tells you how many people are watching (whcih is affected by about 100 different reasons), it doesn't rate the quality of the match, wrestler or show that you're watching.

(Does space alien voice from Simpsons) HurriKane, there is still some more space dust on ths ratings report

The Rock segment spiked the rating from 4.3 to a 4.6, then after Rock's segment ended, the rating dropped to a 4.2, so Rock had a definite impact on the show.

Raw went back up to a 4.0 with hours of (3.6 & 4.4/4.9-or) up from last weeks 3.4 (3.3 & 3.6/3.9-or)

Hurrikane your right the top 3 things are last segment, 10PM and 9PM. Even though the tag matches started before 10. It was almost a 20-minute match and I think the last half of the match was at the 10PM spot, and did a very good rating for it's spot (4.3 up from the overall 1st hour of 3.6)... 10:15 The Rock shows up and that Q-hour where the rating almost on every occasion taks a dip actually went higher. Next segment with & beginning of the (Battle Royal). Took a little dip but it sure came right back up quickly with a very nice overrun.

Smart placing Benoit/Edge vs. Evolution has been doing good ratings in the main event slot & they did a good number on the 10PM spot... Usually they would put the Rock on at 10PM therefore making everything until the main event fall, but putting the Rock on after the 10PM spot you get a double jolt with very little down time until your main event.

Or maybe it's all about Steven Richards in the main event

smark/net attack wienerville advisory stays at BLUE alert - Guarded (With Benoit & Eddie being World & WWE champions you'd expect all's be right but couldn't do it due to Trish/Y2J character switches & whats the deal with JBL PPV main event)- 5/6

Rock didn't make a dent in ratings the last two times he showed up, why did he this time?

I think it helped because there was nothing, up against it for the first time. I don't remember any basketball games being on or any other type of sport. The battle royal kept me wanting to watch, and the Benoit/Edge match, Orton/Benjamin promo, and the Rock/Eugene promo were great fillers.

I didn't think I'd be down with the Eugene character, but it's almost impossible not to like...and him catching the Rock off guard the other night was classic.
