I was thinking, can you make it so you can view the number of posts by forum by a W? Grimis made me think of this, because I imagine his looking like this:
Incidentally, I do think it would be an interesting idea, becuase I'm sure I will not be the only one heavy in any one particular area.

We can run the numbers, but I'm not sure that I want to track this stat in a manner that would make it easy and quick to report.
For instance, I could create a table that contained each userid and a column for each forum, and then add and subtract from the totals as you post to different forums. This would slow the posting a little, but would have the least impact when generating the page with the stat. Storage-wise it wouldn't be awful. I'd just have to put a routine in for the add/delete stuff to change the counts.
Unfortunately, since MySQL doesn't support triggers, I can't do this the "right" way. That means that anything that was deleted in the database (and hence skipped any routines in the PHP) would get jacked up.
Because of that last part, I probably won't do this.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
Select * from database where u_id = 99 and forum = 4
That would give you a number of posts from user #99, me, that are in forum #4, this one.
Do that for all the forums, and you've got it, unless that would be a big drag on the server...or your tables are nothing like I think they are (which wouldn't be far off).

It's totally easy to do ('cause I just did it) but whether or not it's something we want to share with you is something we'll have to discuss amongst ourselves.
The end-user application that occurs to me (besides idle curiosity) is in conjunction with giving ratings. In JayJayDean's example, say the hypothetical Grimis said something appallingly lame in the wrestling folder. (Just hypothetically, of course.) I'd use the feature to notice that the alleged Grimis is a huge participant in a forum that I never read, so would probably just skip bashing him with a vicious rating. I figure the people where he hangs out a lot will provide better ratings input.
It's very slick. The screen gives a nice visual effect. I actually have one post in Video Games. I don't remember ever doing that. Also found it interesting that this started out as a wrestling message board and I have less than 9% of my posts in the wrestling folder.
I must also say a hearty nice job to the Z's for this. I knew that the Wrestling folder would dominate my time (54%), but I also knew that the number was much higher before the botched Invasion of 01. I gotta think that the number will continue to go down and Random will keep hiking up.
Oh, and I'm also glad that I just have 3 posts in the Banished folder. I was wondering what that number would be.
Mr. Green: Who would want to kill the cook? Miss Scarlett: Dinner wasn't THAT bad. Col. Mustard: How can you make jokes at a time like this? Scarlett: It's my defense mechanism. Mustard: Some defense. If I was to kill her, I would kill you next. (audible gasps) I said if, IF. Hey, come on there is only one admitted killer here, and it is certainly not me, it is her! Mrs. White: I've admitted nothing. Mustard: Well, you paid the blackmail. How many husbands have you had? White: Mine or other women's? Mustard: Yours. White: Five. Mustard: Five? White: Yes, just the five. Husbands should be like Kleenex. Soft, strong, and disposable. Mustard: You lure men to their deaths like a spider with flies! White: Flies are where men are most vulnerable.

And I'm guessing those 3 wrestling posts has something to do with the Steiner/Nowinski debate where Grimis might say the words that should never be spoken "You know what, Scott Steiner does make some sense"
No surprise wrestling dominates mine. I don't have a single post in Banished, see kids I'm a role model for not feeding the trolls Or maybe CRZ has such respect for my posts that I save a bunch of threads that were destined to Banished (yeah I didn't think so either LoL)... My video game section is slight.y higher then Piemen with an impressive six.

Hey now..
Incidentally, mine does read:

I'm not surprised to see that by an overwhelming margin, I've posted in the Baseball forum more than any other. What I am surprised to see is that I've posted in the Wrestling forum the second-most amount of times, barely.

In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.
Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

Would it be possible to add a feature to be able to view your posts in each forum? Looking at my list, I was wondering whatever possessed me to post in the politics...

Possible, yes. Will we do it? Probably not, but maybe later I'll retool the old "postsbyuser" page to include forums and make it sortable.
EDIT: Okay, I did. I also optimized it so it should take right around .1s to generate the page now. :)
Here's how I turned out, in case anyone particularly cares:
ekedolphin Total Posts: 1975
Wrestling-- 1290 (65.32%) Basketball-- 235 (11.90%) Random-- 197 (9.97%) Video Games-- 101 (5.11%) Politics-- 24 (1.22%) Football-- 21 (1.06%) Test Forum-- 21 (1.06%) CRZ's World-- 19 (0.96%) Baseball-- 13 (0.66%) Recap Feedback-- 10 (0.51%) From the KZiM Tower-- 8 (0.41%) Site Feedback-- 8 (0.41%) Guest Columns-- 6 (0.30%) Site Bashing-- 5 (0.25%) Hockey-- 2 (0.10%) Banished-- 2 (0.10%)
It worked out kinda the way I expected, really. I was surprised by the number of times I've posted in CRZ's World, though. You'd also expect me to comment on other people's Guest Columns, too, but to be honest I very rarely visit that area.
