Just finished watching Raw and American Idol, so now, it's time for my thoughts.
Originally posted by ScreamingHeadGuyFOOTAGE! from last week's main event, with video effects and BGM.
Fighting evil by moonlight, winning love by daylight, never running from a real fight, because it is time to WAKE UP! It's Raw, live from San Jose, CA...and a Fashion Report, too! The stage is camera-right this week.
HHH, in black iron-cross undies, with FOOTAGE! of Shelton beating him, vs. Shelton, in red singlet with silver trim (rolled down). Mike Chioda is the referee, in black/white stripes. Fan Fashion - Gumby is present in the second row. Shelton is owning HHH. But then Shawn, in black wifebeater and jeans, makes with the run-in. HHH flees through the crowd. Um, no contest?
Shawn gets on the mic to challenge HHH. But Bisch, in black suit and blue shirt, is out to put the nix on any shenanigans this week. Bisch calls for the Rent-a-Cops to escort Shawn from the building 'cuz he's suspended.
HHH/Benjamin -> My mom was in the room when HHH came out, and she said, "Looks like a gorilla." That's OK, she doesn't watch wrestling. Anyway, the match was too short.
HHH/HBK confront -> Just end this, please. When Bischoff brought out the indy wrestlers, I meant, "Security", I knew it was going to get ridiculous. Bischoff suspends HBK, so what, and JR has a fit.
FOOTAGE! hyping Orton vs. Edge.
In the Evolution locker room, Flair gives the troops a pep-talk. Bisch arrives on the scent to book HHH vs. Benoit for the Title next week.
Great, HHH wins and the wrestling world goes back to normal next week. Just what we need...maybe NOT!!!
Tajiri, in black pants with dragon and flaming left hem, vs. Batista, in black undies with arcing red flame. Jack Doan officiates. Batista takes control by attacking Tajiri's back. Man, Batista probably needs to do lots of stretching. Spinebuster->pin. An average match. Post-match Batista delivers a further beating. Ah - Tajiri's insides ARE green.
OK match, and Batista proves our point. He is going to be dominant down the line. Oh yeah, JR has another fit. 30 minutes into the program and he is annoying me pretty fast.
Stacie, in one-piece blue denim sleeveless/legless bodysuit, pimps some Diva dreck. Fortunately Gail, in red top and black hotpants, and Molly, a blonde, in red/black/white top and black pants, put the kibosh on that; they also rough-up Stacie. Victoria, in white bra and hotpants, is out. So is Jazz, in black. So is Nidia, in black bra and hotpants. The heels flee.
Should have fast-forwarded it.
In the back, the face women pow-wow. Meanwhile, in the back, Todd interviews Jericho, who cuts a promo on Christian!.
Randy, in red "Orton" undies with hip bolts, wearing the IC Title vs. Edge, in blue tights with white "Edge" splats, his left wrist in a cast, wearing the Tag Title. Chad Patton is the referee, in the usual referee stripes. There is much standoff/even-matched-ness to start. Edge quickly and solidly takes control by working the back. Mid-match Flair comes out, along with AdBreak.
Cont. Orton is in control. Flair has lost his sportscoat, being down to a pink shirt and khakis. Ooo - Edge spears Orton off the apron and into the barricade. OMG - Orton's attempted headscissors(?) countered into a powerbomb! Edge spears Flair on the apron, and Orton gets the pin (with tights) on the rebound. A nice match, if slow (and uninspired before the ad break).
What was that ending??? Anyway, nice match.
FOOTAGE! from last week's FOOTAGE! of Eugene's training. Presently, in the back, Eugene stretches while Regal looks on. Bisch comes by to speak to Regal, asking that he have Eugene throw the match in return for Regal getting his roster spot. (What - they're going to rig the result of a wrestling match!?)
JR, in black hat and sportscoat with blue shirt, red tie and hanky, and Lawler, in black/gold shiny scaled shirt, lament the selling-out of poor Eugene.
Uh, just get to the match.
Face women: Stacie, Nidia, and Victoria, vs. Heel women: Jazz, Molly, and Gail. Jack Doan is the referee. Much punch/kick ensues. Victoria submits to Gail. Nidia and Stacie never got tagged-in.
Here's Stacy's moves for a normal match, kick, kick, and not much else. My dad said that she does not deserve to be in the ring. Boring match.
Smackdown! (Oh God, no - make it go away!) Rebound: 'Cuz they know you don't watch it.
That's why I have presently stopped writing down things about Smackdown. If Raw and Smackdown were in the stock market, Raw...up, Smackdown...down.
In the back, Todd interviews Christian, flanked by Trish and Tyson. Christian isn't afraid of his match ('cuz he's got lackeys). Post-interview, Trish visits Lita and taunts her with a fake Kane-sighting. Lita brings the whoop-ass.
Whatever.
Mattitude, in black/white coat and pants (man, I like that coat), with Lita and FOOTAGE! of last week's crap (Ms. R. saw that stuff and said it's "stupid") vs. Val. Um, but Kane's head has attacked Val backstage; so we don't get a match. Kane, breathing heavily, wants an answer from Lita. (But wait, it will get worse!)
Kane, thanks for sparing us from watching Val tonight. To the one who can't stand the closeups of Kane, we watch on the big screen and his head fills it all up.
Rob Conway, in sparkly blue military coat and blue "La Resistance" undies, with Quebec flag, with Sylvan, in same. Regal psyches Eugene in the back (and see that tortured look on Regal's face as he's torn about what to do). Rob vs. Eugene, in white jacket and slick blue undies, with Regal, in black suit, white shirt and silver tie. Chad Patton is the referee. The crowd is massively behind Eugene. Regal tries to trip Eugene, but weasels his way out of it. Eugene with the rollup and bridge. Average match.
Now I have seen what everyone in OVW territory have seen for many years. Gimmick aside, he looks like a good one. Nice match. Regal's gimmicks...priceless, as usual. Looked like he smelled a skunk.
FOOTAGE! of Benoit.
Man, this is like a free PPV and the champ is off?
Bisch is out, with Johnny Weekly, in brown shirt (top two buttons open) and black pants. Bisch allows Johnny to announce Trish vs. Lita, next week. Bisch books a 20-man battle royale next week for the Number One contendership.
2 nice matches, then the graphics. Once I saw the competitors for the battle royal, I said, "Here's the PEANUT GALLERY." I could have said a police line, but I used that a few weeks ago.
The cage lowers.
Bisch has joined Lawler and JR on commentary. Lillian announces the rules (as if we don't know them already).
Lillian + face time = great TV. Maybe show her singing the National Anthem prior to Raw on occasion, maybe once a year. It doesn't have to be like after 9/11, or after we got Saddam. Even a random week, please.
Jericho, in blue silhoutte trunks with pink/white/black rays, vs. Christian, in black trunks with pink "C"s on white crests, with Trish and Tyson. Chioda is the official in the ring; Doan is in control on the outside. After much shenanigans, Tyson is sent to the back. Christian! is the first to bleed - big time. Can Trish's shirt go any higher? Trish tries to interfere with a chair, but she gets put into the Walls. Christian takes that opportunity to make a break for it, but Jericho pulls him back into the cage and puts him into the Walls for a submission. A nice match, but it was rushed. Post-match Jericho poses atop the cage.
Guess Christian picked up the short straw for this match and had to do the blading. He bled well, and we got "crimson mask" for the old timers out there. Good match. At least we did not get either one winning by weaseling out through the door or over the top. It finished in the ring for once.
Overall: Except for the continued Kane/Lita/Mattitude crapfest (the thing that makes you ashamed to be a wrestling fan), it was a pretty good show. Not as good as last week's, but entertaining nonetheless.

Good program this week for a free PPV type event.
Couple of non-wrestling things before I go.
1) If you don't want to see my AI thought...don't peek.
OK, to quote Simon a few weeks ago, tongue...floor. Thought LaToya was going to win it all. All I could say is...it's wide open now. I remember when Jennifer got knocked out, page 2 of the Chicago Sun Times (the home paper for me, along with the Tribune) said, "It's an Outrage." Bay Area, I really feel your pain tonight into tomorrow.
2) I will not write my thoughts for the next few weeks. So many family issues, one being my grandmother going in for major surgery. She's going in a week from Monday. If everything goes well, I will be in Branson the week of June 14. If it gets worse, we'll have to stay home. Also, my other grandmother is coming for several weeks (she's going to Branson, too), so...the big screen is hers, and we get the tapes. I will get back to writing when the family matters subside, one way or the other.
I'll still be looking around, and adding to the topics if I need to. See you whenever.
> Anybody catch the spot during the > Edge-Orton match where Randy waited... > and waited for Edge to kick him.
Look again. Orton needed to bend down so Edge could kick him. Edge finally cocked his leg to give Randy a hint, but then Randy bumped before Edge could kick him and sold the whiff. Horrible. All Randy's fault. Watch them go right back to the same spot. The second time it looks perfect because dummy Randy finally remembered to bend over first.

Good point as Edge filled his portion of the match with ten or more moves mainly focusing on Orton's back while Orton struggled to deliver five moves, including duplicates, around some more horrible looking resthold submissions.
It's amazing people don't see through Orton's Lugeresque limitations, but oddly enough they are so loyal that they blame his mistakes on others.

Right. What happened to Shelton after Shawn ran in? Did he fall through the trap door marked "Velocity Tapings?" Not only did he vanish into thin air, the announcers never mentioned him again, making it clear he was irrelevant. So much for the Jeff Hardy of 2004.
> Edge and Orton was decent... but, I > found myself wandering ... probably > still upset that I locked myself out > of my Apartment...
Orton's chinlock, arm bar, stretch plum, cobra clutch nonsense lasted four minutes.
But maybe you got bored earlier...
00-30 seconds - tie up and shoving 30-60 seconds - Orton headlock 60-80 seconds - looking at each other
Of course it would help if Orton had more offensive moves to fill the time.

That was a classic dumb ad-lib. Looks like they picked the wrong guy for the new Eugene gimmick. Orton _is_ Eugene.
> then, replay it again and get kicked > in the head this time.
Because Orton actually bent over this time like he was supposed to earlier, then waited for the kick rather than bailing out early to sell the gut.
Seriously, that screw up was on Orton.
> BAD, BAD, BAD, Edge should know better.
*big laugh*
Edge should know better than to call for the exact same spot, except he's fresh off the taped show where they edit out the misses to make everyone look like talented performers. Yes, it was a dumb mistake by Edge to go right back to it after Randy blew it.
By the way, did anyone catch Orton stumbling to his knees on the small screen before hitting the "modified" neckbreaker? Orton's not ready for prime time. Sloppy holds, limited moveset, and some laughable gaffes.
Brace yourself Boston Idol. Surely someone will be along shortly to tell you that you are simply jealous of how pretty he is. You and I both know that jealousy can't cause the object of jealousy to perform his job improperly, but that won't factor in for the Orton lovers.
I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.

I'm jealous of Trip being rich and getting (or is it giving) anal on a regular basis, too. :p
> You and I both know that jealousy can't cause the > object of jealousy to perform his job improperly, > but that won't factor in for the Orton lovers.
If people watch the two attempts back to back they will get it. To his credit, Orton made the second try look like a million bucks. He has potential, but he's extremely green and his moveset is puny.
Rocky Maivia was so bad that some jackass, okay, Michael K. Johnson II of PWInsider, actually held up a "Die Rocky Die" sign during one of his early television matches. Rocky always had potential, but he needed to drop stuff that wasn't working (a shoulder breaker in the nineties?!?!) and stuff that was too complicated for him (don't they teach "La Magistral" in remedial lucha classes?) and pick up stuff he could execute properly (the People's Elbow and the Rock Bottom) or at least not blow.
Randy Orton may overcome being overexposed just as Rocky Maivia did, but that doesn't explain why the WWE has chosen to expose him and for every Randy Orton who makes it there is a Shelton Benjamin who flames out and is never supported or taken seriously by fans again.
What the hell is OVW for, if not to teach guys like Orton how to apply a few decent holds and add simple moves like knee drops and elbow drops?
It would help if they had somewhere to work on their craft instead of being thrown into the fire YEARS too early. They did it to Brock, to Orton, to Cena, to Benjamin, to Haas, to everyone.
Well except Dinsmore, Basham, Damaja, Rico, and Conway. They all got ample time to work on their craft and develop and they get saddled with go nowhere gimmicks.
They're lacking that second step between OVW and WWE. Jerry Lawler apparently wants to try and provide that in Memphis with the studio format. Plus, there's a ton of indy shows in the area where the guys could work.
In OVW, they're taught all the tools but obviously there's a huge jump between being taught something and putting into practice in a wrestling match where it looks good and makes sense.

If Orton is such a drain on the product, as you seem to think he is. Why was the crowd so hot for the match? According to arena reports, he was more over than Edge. And that segment was the 2nd highest rated behind the ME.
"Right. What happened to Shelton after Shawn ran in? Did he fall through the trap door marked "Velocity Tapings?" Not only did he vanish into thin air, the announcers never mentioned him again, making it clear he was irrelevant. So much for the Jeff Hardy of 2004."
Okay, I'm going to town on this.
Jeff Hardy beat Trips after a chairshot and a semi-fast count then got his ass royally kicked a week later in the rematch, with little to no offence. Shelton Benjamin beat Hunter twice in a row, the first time TOTALLY clean, the second time fighting off Evolution. Hardy was also put straight back into tag team competition, with his brief dalliance with the upper-card never being spoken of again. The announcers are REGULARLY reminding us of Shelton's victories, and he's slated to feud with Orton, the company's pet project, over the summer. THERE IS NO FREAKING COMPARISON HERE.
Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

Agreed. Cena vs Brock looked like a bad indy match.

I don't think Orton is necessarily a drain on the product... any moreso than bad booking, Trip being stale, etc. At the moment Orton is a net positive as "new blood", but mistakes and bad matches will be a drain on his popularity. Nikita? Lex Luger?
As for arena reports, most reviewers have blamed Edge for a gaffe that was clearly Orton's fault, so I tend to take Orton's fanboys with more than a grain of salt. They are obviously delusional. And I wouldn't quote this week's ratings in the defense of Randy Orton or anyone else. I don't blame him for the poor rating, look at the piece of shit screwjob that opened the show, but his rating was definitely not any sort of good news.

The first win was on a distraction spot. There have been literally thousands of pins taken that way and 99.44% of them were ultimately meaningless. The second win was by countout.
But heck, I'll concede Shelton Benjamin had built up some momentum at that point. He was then well hidden in the eight man tag match, but soon showed up on one of the programs only a few fans watch and has done little to follow up his success.
Last night's disappearing act pretty much buried whatever momentum he had going for him.

If Shelton feuds with Orton and is portrayed as a meaningful player through the summer I will have been proved wrong. As it stands he looks like another guy who wasn't ready who Trip laid down for to fool the rubes into thinking that Trip was a team player.
A meaningful job would have been Trip jobbing to Goldberg in Goldberg's debut, or to Edge now, or to Jericho in a number one contenders match. It's no accident that Trip only puts over "no hopers."
We went through all this with Hurricane. People kept telling me that his program with the Rock was a legitimate attempt to elevate him. Right...

Meltz has Benjamin Vs. Orton for the strap down as the third-tier match for Badd Blood, and that belt'll be comin' offa him some time. Compare and contrast with Hardy two months after his "elevation": Tag match at Judgement Day, wins and loses the Light Heavyweight Title in around three weeks in June, and RVD's job-boy over summer. It's not gonna happen.

Oh man like the TWO times he put over Billy-Boy clean, dead-centre, and people STILL shat on Goldberg. That BASTARD.
"We went through all this with Hurricane. People kept telling me that his program with the Rock was a legitimate attempt to elevate him. Right..."
You mean the fluke-pin that had no follow-up, and didn't even result in his music being played after the match? As compared to Benjamin's second victory, a win over Flair and a constant presence against Evolution since then? *shakes head*
You're dug in like an Alabama tick there. Delusions of NEGATIVITY exist too, ya know.

So I was delusional when I heard a "Randy" chant on my TV? Also if the missed kick was partially Orton's fault, then I'm sure you will agree that the missed RKO that Orton takes so much sh1t for was partially Y2J's fault for holding the LionTamer too tight.
> So I was delusional when I heard a "Randy" > chant on my TV?
I still hear ECW chants and they are bankrupt. All it takes is five guys yelling behind the announcer's table, especially when the rest of the crowd is subdued. Pop in a tape from 2000 and then tell me about crowd heat now.

I'm not familiar with the spot in question, but Jericho being sloppy wouldn't shock me.
What about Orton stumbling and falling down before he got up to hit the over the back version of the hangman. Did you see that?

They've moved the announcer's table to the entrance area.

This reminds me of the old Groucho Marx line "Who are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?" Boston Idol is doing better. He wants us to ignore the rating, what we saw on TV, what we heard, and the arena reports.
Randy stumbling is based on the fact that he's very good at selling. And maintains ring psychology. To give you an example in a subtle spot last week he threw down Shelton's leg to avoid the Irish Whip.

I think a problem would be finding qualified teachers/trainers of these new guys, enough to fill a few minor league levels. I mean, didn't WWE send Brian Adams and Big Bossman to OVW to help train a few years ago? If they can't find anyone better than that.....God help us.

Good point there. Hopefully with Lance Storm down in OVW, new prospects will improve that much more, and those lacking who are currently on WWE rosters could be sent down for some CANADIAN TRAINING.

Whenever Shawn and HHH are facing each other, the area outside the ring becomes some sort of space-time anomaly that somehow temporarily causes a wrestler to not only vanish, but to have never existed at all. Just ask Chris Jericho.
