I was just wondering what everyone thought about Ken Shamrock as a wrestler. He appeared in WWF, as was then, at a time when I didn't watch wrestling. I know he got a decent push, and think he even challenged for the WWF Title at one PPV, but was it a Hardcore Holly push, or was worthy of main eventing. If he was, would Smackdown! benefit if he was to return as a legitimate contender for the WWE Title, and as a good opponent for Eddie?
Thanks in advance if you take the time to reply

I´d consider Ken Shamrock (in the condition we´ve seen him in in WWE´s past) a better #1 contender for Eddy´s title than JBL, but - of course - that doesn´t say a lot, does it? Almost everybody would be a better contender than JBL!
By the way: Shamrock challenged the Heartbreak Kid for the title and it happened @ In your house 19 (called: D-Generation X) in 1997! The match wasn´t bad, but it also wasn´t exactly a big push for Ken. He went back to IC midcard immediatly afterwards.
I'd like to see Shamrock back. He'd freshen up Smackdown a bit. I wasn't a huge fan of his, but I could see WWE getting behind his return. And with the Smackdown roster the way it is, Sham would probably be pushed into the title picture.
Shamrock's around 40 years old now, but with a good mouthpiece (Heyman) I'd easily buy him as a legitimate WWE title contender against Eddie. Just put him in a psycho role who's hellbent on taking out Guerrero, and whammo.
As far as his previous run went, he hovered around the main event for a while, kind of like Rock and HHH in 98 except he never broke through. I think that them not putting the I-C belt on him until well after his feud with the Rock was over was a telling sign of what they thought of him at that point... he spent most of 1999 engaged in the Corporate Ministry mess, then he left after that.
Interestingly, Shamrock got better at cutting a promo after he left WWE. His promos on Tito Ortiz were better than most promos on either show today.
Shamrock's MMA career is basically over. Returning to WWE wouldn't be the worst idea.

I've always liked Ken Shamrock more then the average fan. I got into his character pretty fast(and I'm not a MMA fan at all)... He quickly learned the give and take of a wrestling style and I enjoyed his matches. I liked his character as well, very straight forward act before he thinks character.
When he left it was kind of strange, I always thought he was returning shortly and I never remember reading an official release. I think he was injured and I thought okay he'd be back from injury, then it was some time off and he'll be back soon. Then I read he's back in MMA and I was like "Huh when did he leave WWF?"

I LOVED Robo-Shamrock when he was working for the Corporation. He was such a complete and legit badass. I never really bought him as a face, but as a heel, he's gold.
"Oh, I'm a sad little man? I've thrown a bloody kettle over a pub...what have you done?"
Just under 2 years ago, Shamrock won the first TNA-NWA heavyweight belt. I thought he did a pretty good job and looked good in the ring. I didn't see anything to preclude his return to top midcard form, especially after the power/submission style was popularized by Angle and Benoit.
I have to admit my memories of him are overshadowed by his straitjacket match with Jarrett and his very obvious call for sister Ryan to slap him.

Um, Shamrock trained to be a pro wrestler in 1988-89, before he even went into MMA. He occasionally worked as a jobber in WWE as "Vince Torelli".

Ah, that's why I luv this place, even a Net Hack like myself can learn something new. I did not know that(does Johnny Carson voice)... I liked both heel and face Shamrock, he just seemed alot more real & straight forward then most wrestling character. Plus his ability to "internally bleed" at a moment notice. That's talent.
I remember Shamrock as corporate muscle during the entire Corporation vs. Ministry angle and Undertaker kiddnapped Stephanie and as other corporate members didn't really want to go to the basement to find Steph, Shamrock had no problem running in(I remember the strangest things for some reason)... I was think what was his last feud? And had to be with Jericho when Y2J first came into the WWE (Haha Scamrock). Jericho was damn entertaining back then with Fink as his #1 Jericholic. They were setting up Jericho vs. Shamrock very well with Jericho picking on Shamrock and running away leaving poor Fink to take the brunt of Shamrock. Then Shamrock just left out of the blue due to I don't know what (injury I think) and they had Jericho vs. Roaddog (talk about a step down).

Shamrock retired at the time due to a neck injury.

Shamrock was like Brock Lesnar in the sense that he should never have been allowed to speak. His interviews, especially early on, were pitiful. He was a nightmare in the sense that he sounded like the stereotype of a wrestler as in---idiotic. I still remember Shammy on RAW, right after Bret Hart left, calling Chyna a "kitchen or a man or a woman or whatever you are..." Uh, yeah.
In the ring, Shamrock seemed to have a decent understanding of things and actually had really good matches with a few guys. His best work was probably with the Rock. They had awesome chemistry.
I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.
Shamrock had a good run in WWF. Everyone knew he was a legit bad ass. Management even brought in The Lion's Den (R) for him to work some matches in. 2 Hi-lites stick out in my mind. His membership in my favorite short lived stable ever...The Union w/ Foley,Big Show,& Test. The other was a tremendous match in '99 with Jeff Jarrett, where Shamrock wore a straight jacket. He made Jarrett tap to a triangle choke. I truly enjoyed his work.

I vaguely remember him challenging Stone Cold for the title during his heel turn, but just got kick-wham-stunnered in a squash, IIRC.
Last I ever remember seeing of Shamrock was when Jericho came out in full hockey gear to face him, splashed him off the top rope, causing yet another internal injury. And then he was gone
Zeruel, you're saying Shamrock challenged Austin for the WWF Title while Austin was a heel? Surely that couldn't have been during the inVasion, right? Or are you saying Shamrock was a heel?
Or was it some other time Austin was a bad guy?

I'd like to see him back, too. Smackdown needs ANYNE who isn't overexposed. He's no Randy Couture or Hoyce Gracie, but he would be an instant "legitimate badass," and he could be thrown into the title scene with very litle buildup. At the very least he would save us from such feuds as Buh-Buh Ray Dudley vs. Eddie Guererro.
