We're down to the final four and it's Disco Night on "American Idol". A little "I Will Survive", a little "Last Dance", probably. And oooh, they're changing it up tonight with the judges as they will take their comments form right-to-left, with Simon leading off, then guest judge Donna Summer, then Paula, with Randy finishing up. How will Paula follow the inevitable insipid commentary by the CJ Donna Summer with insipid commentary of her own? She does appear to have gone through that 5-day rehab program in time for tonight's show.

Jasmine Trias leads off for the ladies with "Everlasting Love". Hmmm. The GOOD news is that she looked HOT, possibly as hot as any Idol has ever looked in that little black dress she was wearing. The BAD news is that she wasn't just there to co-host with Ryan. Oh, how awful she is singing this song. Didn't we talk about this All-Madden thing a couple of weeks ago? She went back to it tonight, picking a song WAY out of her league. Her performance is as bad as I could've imagined coming out of the final four. Simon's first comments of the night are to tell Jasmine that she was "probably" going home after tonight and after that performance she "definitely" is. Of COURSE CJ Donna Summer thinks it was "pretty good" and applauds Jasmine for having the courage to go on stage, like it's her first time and she hasn't done it for NINE WEEKS STRAIGHT. Give me something to throw at the TV right now.

LaToya London follows Jasmine with "Love You Inside and Out", doing as good a job as you'd expect from the always good LaToya. She definitely has the disco "thing" down, as again her maturity shows in her performance. Simon tells LaToya she should've let her personality show more because we don't know anything about her after 10 weeks of the competition. WHAT?! Were you even THERE last week?

Fantasia is up next with "Knock on Wood". I thought Fantasia might have some trouble this week but she is all good here. (Except the outfit, which is out of the Jennifer Hudson collection. Ugh.) She takes a little stroll through the crowd and it WORKS, surprisingly. I don't know if she was better than LaToya, but she was really good and Jasmine is in BIG trouble now.

In the red room at the start of the show Diana DeGarmo said she was excited for tonight because she "loves" disco. I didn't really believe her when she said it, but she's AWESOME singing "This Is It". She's got the Fun Diana-thing going, and she was VERY impressive here. Simon (who I thought was going to pick on her dress) actually says he "takes back" his earlier comments about her being too young to be in the competition, and places her firmly in the Kimberley Locke spot of MAYBE being able to break up the projected final two of Fantasia and LaToya. Diana makes like Wesley Snipes as Willie Mays Hayes in "Major League", as she wants to just go completely NUTS right there, but she has to keep it together in front of the camera. You know she was flipping out during the break.

Round Two begins with Jasmine singing "It's Raining Men", as I bury my face in my hands for her. This performance is much better than her first one. Of course, I'm sure burnt bacon tastes MUCH better than an old sweat sock. She doesn't do enough to save herself here after the other three girls' performances, and the judges let her know it. Jasmine does a pretty good job of being composed, ALMOST, but then she starts to lose it and starts crying on stage with Ryan. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that doesn't get her any "sympathy votes", because she doesn't deserve to go on after this.

LaToya starts out in the crowd to sing "Don't Leave Me This Way". Is it mandatory to go into the crowd tonight? First Fantasia, then Jasmine had just done it, now LaToya. The effect is kind of gone by this point. Again, LaToya predictably brings the goodness. Can she lose at this point? She's clearly the best singer and has been for three or four weeks. I say to Mrs. JJD that I don't know if she showed more personality or not, so of course Simon says she definitely DID show more personality. He's really BUGGING me this week. He does say that LaToya's performance is as good as the original. High praise, indeed.

How in the HELL does Fantasia choose "Holding Out for a Hero" for her disco" song? Last week she got to sing a Queen song on "Big Band Night"! SHENANIGANS! Oh man this is a brutal rendition, as well. Fantasia should thank her lucky stars for Jasmine's misery tonight. Not even the judges liked it, and Simon expected to be booed after he criticized Fantasia but the crowd seemed to agree with him. Also, Fantasia needs her mic CUT after she's done singing. PLEASE!

Diana wraps up the night's performances with "No More Tears", and she gives her best performance of the season. Plus, she's wearing pants instead of a dress. She should stick with that look, because the dresses always show her baby fat a little too much. She's simply amazing here, reestablishing that she may be the best SINGER in the competition as it had been said earlier in the season before she turned into Celine Jr. She also made it through two songs tonight without making one "Celine move". I think Fantasia needs to BRING it next week, because Diana is on a roll.

It's got to be a foregone conclusion this week that Jasmine's gone, right? It would be a bigger injustice than Jennifer Hudson's early exit if the voting turned out any other way. I kind of wish they just spent the next hour following the contestants, reality-style. Would Diana even make eye-contact with Jasmine? Would Fantasia revel in telling Jasmine how she screwed up and made it easier for the others to get through? Would LaToya try to cheer up Jasmine with her "Wanda" impression? I'm filled with questions.

I feel a little bad for Jasmine. She is so obviously the one that needs to go home tonight. How in the world could she have picked "It's Raining Men" for her second song? Don't they have anybody helping them? Maybe they wanted her to pick that, so that it would be so obvious that 26 millions people had to vote for someone else?

As a previous Diana-basher, I must say see was pretty good tonight. The second song was definitely the best of the night.

LaToya is too perfect. Simon's right. There's no variation. You know exactly how she going to sound and it's good. But it's not unique. It's the same sameness time after time.

I can't believe I am typing that I think Diana and Fantasia should be the last two. At the beginning of the Final 12, they would have been about second and third voted off.

Thanks for the great recap JJD. I had to miss last night's show due to a non-profit board meeting and Mrs. Dunk forgot to turn on the VCR. Can Jasmine and her fans pull a Nikki McKibbin or a Josh Gracin ?

I wouldn't mind it if Jasmine pulled a Nikki Mckibbon, as long as Fantasia is this year's Tamayra. She sure can sing, but her voice gets on my nerves after a while.

Gah, I KNOW Jasmine was by far the worst singer last night...but dammit, I still voted for her. As I said last week, I have NO clue why I like her, but I'm just going with my instinct. It's kind of like my Diana hatred. I know she's a good singer, but I can't help but not like her...and I don't know why.

But anyways, everyone (well, except maybe Jasmine) was pretty good last night. After taking a peek at the American Idol boards on Bolt last night, I really wouldn't be surprised if Jasmine stayed another week. The tweens REALLY seem to be sympathizing with her. My guess is that Fantasia gets the boot this week.

For some strange reason Diana appearing on my television screen makes me angry every time. Like want to throw my t.v. out the window angry and for the life of me I can't figure out why. I mean she sings decently enough and is a nice person...yet the sight of her sends me into a rage.

She simply inspires a sort of babbling, feverish terror. Surely you've seen Brazil?

HUH?! LATOYA got voted off? Yes, I voted for Jasmine (I still don't know why I like her), but out of all of the ladies, Latoya was the one that least deserved to get voted out (in my opinion). When Fantasia and Latoya were standing up there, I figured for sure Fantasia was going.

I'm still baffled by tonight.

Uh oh...and here comes the backlash! Let the racism allegations commence...again. Don't let anyone tell you those Hawaiians don't rock the vote.

(Though it should be noted, I did vote for Jasmine. Forgive me, Wieners W's, if DarkRenegade and my votes put Jasmine over Latoya.)

It's all Fantasia now. And boy, won't THAT be...atrocious?

Ahhh... I hope people won't cry racism.. but it's unavoidable anymore. I'm shocked to see LaToya go as well, but what did her in was Simon stating the fact that she didn't show her personality at all during the competition. You could say that she was just being classy, but she sorta gave off an air that she was better than the competition. And maybe she is better than the show because her talent, if marketed correctly, will take her far. Didn't work for Rueben and his lack of personality, but I hope it works for her.

I think the thing that it boils down to is the fact that a lot of us mid-20's and older people don't have the time or care to rush to the phone to fight these teenagers on the phone lines. I wouldn't be shocked to see Fantasia go next week.

As much as they try to tell you that this is a talent contest, it's really just a popularity contest. LaToya probably has the most talent of the 4 that were left this week but her personality and "I don't care if I win" air were her undoing - that and few well placed tears & a lot of devoted fans with unlimited text messaging.

OK...I'll admit it. After hearing it was Disco Night (the best non-Rat Pack music EVER), I knuckled under and watched Tuesday and Wednesday night of Idol...the first time I ever did so.

I'd set the mood w/ my old avatar, but I can't find 'er. So instead, here's Diana on top of the disco world:

(Thanks, DanceNetRadio.com!)

Kudos to whatever 13-year-old voters with entirely too much cellphone access booked this thing...they've created a heel! Even this Jasmine girl thought she was gone...but when they brought up LaToya to join Fantasia on the hot seat, her "holy sh*t" reaction was priceless. Gotta love how the crowd sh*t on the whole thing...instant heat for Jasmine! Now she can play the perplexed-why-don't-you-love-me heel.

And was it just me, or when they were all on stage at the end of Tuesday's episode, the only thing I could think was MXC's "Don't! Get! Eliminated!"

So...much...filler...in...results...show...

9:08 pm: The girls meet with a psychic. We're stretching the results show to an hour for THIS? (The psychic chick was fairly hot, though.)

9:13 pm: Did Fantasia forget the words there? That seemed really odd that she stood out front for a second and didn't do anything. Plus, she seemed REALLY uncomfortable doing the "group thing". Maybe it just stood out more since there are only four left.

9:20 pm: Clay Aiken is performing with the ladies. He's thinking "if I had waited until this year I would've won for SURE." Nice little sideburns, by the way. He and the ladies sang "Fantasy", but it was sadly not the Aldo Nova or Billy Joel songs of that title.

9:28 pm: Fantasia is in the bottom two, leaving LaToya and Jasmine for the last spot. Uh oh. I say to Mrs. JJD, "I'm scared about this right now" and she nods in agreement.

9:35 pm: Donna Summer is singing "MacArthur Park" and Diana DeGarmo, already safe since 9:15, is working it by the couches, leading to this exchange:

JJD: "Boy, Diana's fianlly said, 'I can just be happy now. Nobody's watching me,' and she's letting it all hang out."

Mrs. JJD: "Yeah. Literally."

9:45 pm: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Jasmine's safe?! WTF?! Stupid Hawaiians! Stupid Simon for telling them to vote five times each! Stupid people on this board who voted for her even though she SUCKED! And the people in the audience are PISSED! Poor Jasmine having to sit there while the crowd boos like crazy. Hopefully she understands that no one's booing her PERSONALLY, but she should've been the one to go.

9:52 pm: At least Fantasia's going hom--, WHAT?! Aw MAN! LaToya's going home and Jamine's staying...what a farce!

9:57 pm: LaToya rocks out with her rendintion of "Rain on My Parade". I guess the good thing about this is that Jasmine didn't sing tonight.

The night Jennifer Hudson got kicked off, my boss called me at home (which he never does) to give me props for being right that Jennifer wasn't going to make it very far, but he was so upset he just stopped watching altogether. I'm not THAT upset, but DAMN! You done gone and fucked up again, America.

i think this vote...along with the Hudson vote, where she, Latoya, and Fantasia were the bottom three above John Stevens, who was terrible, should be an indication to the producers...that they need to take away all of the voting power away from the viewers...Then again...I'm betting a lot of people voted for Jasmine because they didn't want to hurt her feelings...

I had LaToya picked to win, and now, I'm taking Diana, for the only reason being....she's the most annoying one on there.

If America votes for someone and they win American Idol, they get the contract but it doesn't gurantee that anybody is going to buy their album and most importantly, their second album.

You know...I think I found part of the reason I like Jasmine...OBVIOUSLY she's the weakest link in the competition right now, almost everyone hates her (the judges...even Paula, and pretty much everyone else, besides Hawaii, men who like Hawaiian women, and people that are just that damn sadistic), but if she wins the competition, I will have a good laugh from it. Having the worst singer (that's left) win the competition would be great. I can see the internet, talk shows, newspapers, and radio shows bitching about it already.

Hell, she's got my votes for the rest of the season. I've never liked Diana and I was never too big of a Fantasia fan anyways. I just have to round up the Hawaii voters to make sure the worst (that's left) wins this season. Damn...where's AngryJohnny when I need him?

Jasmine is the new John Stevens. I don't see her lasting through next week though, since all the La Toya voters don't have to decide between her and Fantasia anymore, giving Fantasia full support to win all the way through. But never underestimate the power of retarded teenagers.

I think Latoya is overrated. She has no gimmick and a bland personality. Her song choices have not been the popular hits that everyone can sing along to. At least Fantasia has a unique voice and "I need a hero" is a cool song even if it ain't disco.

I voted for Jasmine and I think she deserves to win.

Are you FUCKING INSANE or just REALLY tone-deaf? Jasmine was clearly the WORST of the four singers Tuesday night! She's only had two or three decent performances on the whole show! You seriously think she deserves to WIN?!

Seriously, I FUCKING HATE Fantasia, but I'd never try to justify why Jasomine should win over her, even. I think Diana's going to win now, anyway.

Tone deaf or not as much as Fox, Seacrest & the judges claim it's a talent contest, it's still a popularity contest. People are going to vote for who they like more so than who sings the best. LaToya was just the latest victim of the "Tamyra Effect". I can't stand Fantasia, Diana does nothing for me and feels plastic, Jasmine is cute but trys to hard to hit and hold notes that she hasn't grown into yet. None of them are of the same caliber that Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken or Ruben Studdard were in their seasons at this point but one of them is going to win. Fox really needs to think through the selection process and the voting process for the next edition. They seemed more interested in the William Hung's of this season than in finding and promoting the real talent.
