I think the main question with the Titans is McNair's health. If he keeps getting banged up they won't finish in the top ten. If he can stay healthy, then they likely are top five. Big question though.
Well his, and George's.
George was pretty much a average to below-average back last year and they were top-five (imho). Their offense has really changed to a pass-first scheme where the back needs to be just good enough to keep the defense quasi-honest.

GO PATS!
When you're the defending Super Bowl champions and you make a massive upgrade at your only true weak spot on offense, it's be a traveshamockery for you to NOT be at the top of any preseason list.
Yeah yeah yeah...to be the man and all that. :-P
I hate the Patriots more than any team in the NFL but I also respect them more than any team in the NFL. Go fig.

And it helps Eddie too. Last year he got over a 1000 yards due to the fact that we defense honest and he was able to get some good runs.
And people worry about us not having Kearse, he hasn't played a full season in two years and we ended up ok. The bigger loss might be Robaire Smith since Haynesworth is, at this point, unrealible and Smith went to a team in our division.
Our offense should be okay as Troupe as a replacement for Wycheck and Tyrone Calico may(I hope) have a breakout year. Chris Brown is a capable backup to George whenever he needs a rest. My one main worry is the O-line since they're getting older and older.

Wait... so it's a thread... about a list... does this make it a list thread which I must immediately banish?
Anyway, Giants are where they belong, although it'd be nice if Coughlin could whip their asses into shape. This is just really surreal seeing the Giants in this position... I thought the Jets were the NFL's version of the Clippers, not US.

It's way early but the Titans are too low. Question McNair's health if you must but he missed two whole games and a half of another last year. Billy Volek played the second half against the Falcons and threw for 120 yards and a td. He started in week 15 vs Buffalo and threw for 295 yards and two td's. And Neil Odonnell started in week 17 against the Bucs and threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans won all three games.
The Titans resigned Volek this year. He picked them over the Falcons, who offered double the money. Why? Because if Mike Vick gets hurt the Falcons will suck again. The Titans should be able to keep on winning.
Also, when Kearse was hurt for most of 2002, Carlos Hall stepped in and had nine sacks. Combine him, with the ends they drafted and they should get ok pressure. Listening to Fisher and Schwartz it sounds like Kevin Carter will be playing mostly defensive tackle this year. Him and Haynesworth should be fine. The Titans have lost really good defensive linemen four or five consecutive years. Henry Ford, Jason Fisk, Robarie Smith, Josh Evans, Jevon Kearse, Kenny Holmes. Every year someone else steps in and takes up the slack.
Plus, they return all starters except Smith and Kearse. McCareins started when Bennett was hurt, but he was the third option otherwise.

As always, lists like these are highly subjective. That being said, I'm surprised to see the Donkeys ranked so high. Here's hoping Tatum Bell becomes Clinton Portis II.
Is it September yet?
Out of all the questions raised about this list, no one has pointed out the fact that even though the Panthers are the defending NFC champs and gave the Pats all they could handle in the SB, there are 3 NFC teams ranked ahead of them (Eagles, Seahawks, Falcons). Eagles I could see but not the other 2 teams.
Hey! I asked about the Seahawks (and no one has responded!). I'm not sold on the Eagles, but TO was a good addition. As for the Falcons, the Panthers always have trouble with them, and I think they've only gotten better this offseason.

HAHAHA I love that commiercial. BURGERFLICKLE! haha.
Anyway, yeah I think for a pre-preseason list, its not bad. Though I can't see the Broncos being up that high, or for that matter, the Bengals being that low. Loving the Patriots though. (thank god one team from New England doesn't always choke)

I'm shocked Big Blue is actually above a few teams. On the bright side, though we will struggle this year, it means we will get a high pick in the 2005 draft. Oh wait, we gave that away already. Shows yet again how much they miss George Young at the controls. He would never have committed such a blunder. I can't put a team with Jake Plummer as their QB in the top 5. I'm shocked the Dolphins aren't higher. They usually don't fall out of the Top 10 until after Thanksgiving. The way the Texans played down the stretch last year, they are very low at 27. Learned how to play tough against playoff teams. Usually, those are the teams that contend for a playoff spot the next season.
These are desperate times. And desperate times call for desperate measures. Thus, its time to break out the Cubs/White Sox/Red Sox call to put the Kaiser back on the throne.
I'm surprised to see my teams at 5 but it's a rather pleasent surprise. I'm living on the prayer Gunther can SOMEHOW whip the Defense into shape..it mean It would take a miracle but man I'd love to see the chiefs dominate two years in a row.
And see the Pats(respect but hate type thing) NOT go to the bowl

Am I the only one that thinks the Eagles will choke AGAIN this year?
Yeah, the Eagles will probably choke again, but still they were the best team in the NFC last year, IMO, and they improved so I can't argue with them being the highest rated NFC, whether they are destined to choke or not.
Actually, I thought the Pats and Eagles were the best teams in their respected conferences and both improved where they needed help so it's hard for me to not pick Pats vs. Eagles as an early early Super Bowl pick.

If it does end up a Pats/Eagles Super Bowl, thank god it's not in NO this time around. Drunk Boston and Philly fans mixing together on Bourbon Street? Holy Shit Batman.

Drunk Boston fans and Drunk Phily fans wouldn't fit in well together on Rural Route 4 in Burwell, Nebraska, let alone a street near where a Super Bowl is about to be played

Drunk Philly fans don't fit in with freakin Santa Claus so I really don't think who the other team is would matter.

Nope. I am always intrigued by how indignant people get about lists and where their team (or guitarist or band or whatever) ranks. It's one person's opinion about something. Your opinion may be radically different.

Because those of us who are long-suffering Seahawks fans know what its like to go into the season with heightened expectations and see them come crashing down. I'll stick with guarded optimism and hope the national media (Chris Berman and Peter King among others), aren't regretting their predictions, at least on the Hawks once the season does get under way.
Last year was the longest I had gone into a season before the "ceremonial throwing of the hat" so I'm hoping the hat stays on my head and never even sees my foot at all this year. We'll see.

Oh, I completely understand that one. I first asked because I was confused because I'm not exactly sure what the Seahawks had done to jump up so high. But looking at it now, it seems they've kept their offense together and improved their defense. With the 49ers looking very weak, and the Rams just getting older the Seahawks are the best team in the NFC West, but I'm not sure that warrants the 6 spot. After all, I'm sure Arizona can't wait to surprise us all.

I don't get the Eagles being ranked so high. If any team is dominant in the NFC, it will not be anybody from the NFC East, nor the West. The Falcons high ranking is banking on Vick being healthy, since we all saw what happened last year.
Also, defending champs or not, I really don't think they'll make it all the way again. Cheifs or Colts, but not them.

Eww, that wasn't good. That is it, the NFC is Philadelphia and then everyone else... At a neutral site I think no one in the NFC can beat the Eagles but having to go to Philadelphia I just don't see any team that can come close.
