NBC gives this garbage ten years, and canclled Mister Sterling after six episodes...

Thoughts???
Are you kidding? Seinfeld ended almost perfectly. You just know that if they ever do a reunion show (doubtful, but stranger things have happened) it will start off with them getting out of prison. Jerry & Larry set it up so that unless *they* come up with something that absolutely needs to be said with those characters, there will never be a guest appearance on a show by George, Kramer, Elaine or Jerry.
I loved the ending for Seinfeld. I thought it was absolutely perfect for the theme of the show.
Friends debuted my freshman year in college. Realizing that was 10 years ago makes me feel old.
I'm actually someone that still likes the show. I really wanted Joey to end up with Rachel, but, that's ok. Of course my dream ending is Ross getting run over by a bus and the rest of the cast shrugging their shoulders and walking away.
The best episode bar none on there was where Ross was trying to motivate everyone to leave to go to a speech he was giving. Joey and Chandler fight over a chair the whole episode and Joey gets so angry with Chandler that he puts on everything Chandler owns. I don't know what it is about that episode, but every time I see it it makes me laugh.
"Oh, I'm a sad little man? I've thrown a bloody kettle over a pub...what have you done?"
I wish I could be excited, but Friends ran out of steam for me about four seasons ago, and even then, I wasn't a regular viewer. Most of the guys I know who watch it watch it simply because a girlfriend or a wife watches it. That might not be the majority, but the show just doesn't appeal to my friends and I.
It might not be the greatest comedy ever (too many better shows to list) but it's been hugely influential to 18-49 year olds, and especially 20-30 somethings, in terms of fashion, hairstyles, and phrases.
My favorite part about the end is all the media outlets talking about what they will do next. Why, they'll do what most successful sitcom actors do: fail miserably at everything else they do. Hell, do you think that Matt Leblanc signed on to the "Joey" spinoff because he liked the script? The only one I see doing anything in movies is Jennifer Aniston, who I can see as the next Alan Alda-type ex-sitcomer (quirky indy movies, the bigger the movie, the smaller the part). She'll always be Rachel. Courtney Cox will always be Monica, and so on and so on.
Gravity is a contributing factor in nearly 73 percent of all accidents involving falling objects.
I *liked* the Cosby Show finale. All season, Cliff was trying (and failing) to fix the faulty doorbell, and for the finale, he fixes it. He hits the doorbell, the orchestra plays, and Cliff and Claire walk right out the goddamn studio. AWESOME.
I do wonder, however, what will happen with "Must See Thursday". Everytime they've lost an anchor show (Cosby, Cheers, Seinfeld), another has stepped in its place seemlessly. They don't seem to have one now, unless they plan on running The Apprentice in that spot. It would seem that NBC would give "Joey" that spot, but I think putting a new show in such a high profile spot is a BAD idea. Plus, spinoffs are very hit or miss. For every "The Jeffersons" or "Frasier", you get a "Just the Ten of Us". Somehow, I think "Joey" will fall into that latter category.

Um....The Simpsons, Arrested Development, the West Wing and Crossing Jordan are the only ones that come to mind.

Isn't the chick from the Sopranos going to be the co-star on Joey??
And I must admit, Friends is a fairly new thing to me. As hard as this is for some to believe, where I live I can't get an NBC affiliate station....not even with DISH.
So, we bought the first couple of seasons on DVD and I've started from there. Very entertaining. And I can promise you, they have definitely been the trend-setters as someone mentioned above because even the shows that are a decade old don't seem all that dated.

So with Friends passing (and Frasier next week) what will be the next sitcom to get the mega-huge farewell ala Seinfeld, MASH, Cheers, MTM show, etc? i.e. what mega sitcoms are still around?
"The Simpsons": Rumors have it around for 2 more years. "Everybody Loves Raymond": Some say next year, but I have never watched it so I could care less. "Will and Grace": It seems to be only in the middle of its run.
Wow, now that I'm thinking about it, the sitcom does seem to be a dying breed. Everything else is either too new, won't be around long enough or is already living on borrowed time.

Peeking through her hood he could see the brown fur of her ears stand on end. In the warm glow of night Wirrah gently removed Sorroo’s wedding tunic revealing her bare shoulders. Standing before him naked, Sorroo urged Wirrah forward to take her from behind as is the custom of the Ewok on the day of marriage.
As the sound of Imperial Walkers could be heard in the distance, Wirrah entered into the warmth that was Sorroo. The act was finished almost as quickly as it started; Ewok love is a speedy love. Where's the fanfare for Frasier? In my opinion it's a far superior show. Better writing, better acting... just better. And can you believe that K.G. has been playing the same character on TV for over 20 years? That has to be some kind of record!
Just an aside, I but I really wouldn't classify MASH as a Sitcom. I think the industry term for it is an hour-long 'dramadie'.
For the curious, my favorite shows that have ended (and the episodes that ended 'em): -Boy Meets World [1993-2000]; "Brave New World" Everybody moves away. -The Cosby Show [1984-1992]; "And So We Commence" Theo graduates from college. -Cheers [1982-1993]; "One for the Road" Diane goes back to California, Sam stays in Boston. -Dawson's Creek [1998-2003]; "All Good Things..." & "Must Come To An End" (2 parter) Jen dies. Joey chooses Pacey. -Ed [2000-2004] "Happily Ever After" Ed & Carol get married. -Family Matters [1989-1998]; "Lost In Space" Urkel becomes an astronaut. -The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air [1990-1996]; "I, Done" Everyone moves away. -Futurama [1999-2003]; Fry & Leela get together. -Highlander [1992-1998]; "To Be" & "Not To Be" (2 parter) McLeod kills O'Rourke. -Home Improvement [1991-1999]; "The Long And Winding Road" Tool Time ends. Al & Trudy get married. The Taylors move to Indiana. -Mad About You [1992-1999]; "The Final Frontier" Mabel (in the future) makes a movie about her family. -M*A*S*H [1972-1983]; "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" (TV Movie) The war ends. Klinger & Soon-Lee get married. Everyone goes home. -Star Trek: The Next Generation [1987-1994]; "All Good Things..." Everything turns out fine. The Enterprise continues it's missions. -Star Trek: Deep Space Nine [1993-1999]; "What You Leave Behind" The war ends. Sisko becomes a prophet. Kira becomes commander of DS9. -Star Trek: Voyager [1995-2001]; "Endgame" They get home. -Sliders [1995-2000]; "The Seer" They get back to their proper dimension.
EDIT: By the by, buzz says that FOX wants to keep Simpsons on until the end of their 20th season so they can outlast Gunsmoke as the longest show ever. Plus, the cast is contracted for AT LEAST one feature film. Gunsmoke ran from 1955 to 1975 and spanned 635 episodes (the first 233 episodes were half-hour, the rest were hourlong) and 5 TV movies). The Simpsons will have run 335 episodes by the end of this season, and with an average of 22 episodes a season would catch Gunsmoke in just over 13 seasons. Gunsmoke generated an astounding 518 hours of original programming (not counting the TV movies) while the Simpsons has so far amassed 167 hours. For those curious, Friends has lasted for 238 episodes and about 120 hours.

I love that episode, but MY favorites are the one where they play "who knows the other better" and switch apartments and the one where Phoebe finds out about Chandler and Monica and her and Rachel try to get them to admit it.

That show was actually on until 1998? Wow.
M*A*S*H was a half hour show. And while its themes often veered into the dramatic side of things, it usually had all the elements of a sitcom (including a laugh track).

The Capt. Tuttle, Col. Flag, Gen Steele episodes get me EVERY time.
Yeah, it was a dramedy towards the last half of the run (when Potter and Winchester join the cast), and those are my favorite seasons for a reason.
I'm astonished that FX hasn't re-run the M*A*S*H movie. This war is very unpopular and M*A*S*H was a great commentary on the vietnam war.
And the gods seem to have a sense of humour...as TBS is rerunning the FIRST episode of Friends right now. The hairstyles look insane, and some of the topical jokes are dated, but otherwise the writing is still pretty tight.
Rachel seems to have gotten smarter since then, Chandler's gotten funnier, Monica's gotten more attractive, Phoebe's gotten more sane, Ross has gotten slightly more pathetic and annoying, but at least Joey's turned into less of a greasey jerk.

Good riddance, Friends. Now I can focus my hatred on 'Scrubs'.
*grumble, grumble*
WHAAAAAAT!?!?
While I can certainly understand the Friends hatred, I can't fathom how you can just hate Scrubs?
I haven't seen the last season because of some nasty schedule, but did it just start to suck or something? I can't imagine, it really is the second best sitcom on network TV, following Arrested Development. At least it was, perhaps I've missed something.
I do wonder, however, what will happen with "Must See Thursday". Everytime they've lost an anchor show (Cosby, Cheers, Seinfeld), another has stepped in its place seemlessly. Scrubs SHOULD have been built up as NBC's new linchpin show, if the network had any brains. Instead, the title will be handed by default to Will & Grace, which has gone from being one of the best sitcoms on TV just a few years ago into one of the absolute worst.
In this day and age, however, is having a hit sitcom such a need for a network? It seems like all you need is a soapish drama, a cop show and a few reality shows and there you have it.
