Hey guys, I was at nodq.com to read one of my favorite columnists, The Forzee View. This edition he talks about Sting and Luger and I would like to see what you guys think about this:

The Total Ultimatum

One of the strangest of unconfirmed rumors these days is that Sting has surfaced again talking about what it would take for him to join the WWE.Although it is being reported that WWE has not contacted Sting in quite some time and that there is a general consensus in the company that WWE believes Sting’s worth was about two years ago, but Sting is still talking about why he does not want to work for WWE regardless. Sting, who is a devout Christian and family man, has made enough money through his years of service with WCW that he need not work ever again. Besides the casual appearance for TNA, Sting has been out of the wrestling spotlight for quite some time and by his own admission prefers to stay that way forever.

Sting, who again has not had any contact with WWE for quite some time has decided to tell the wrestling world that he would be open to make a few sporadic appearances for the WWE if they were to help out his downtrodden best friend Lex Luger.Luger has not been in good standing with the WWE for quite some time dating back to the day he appeared on the first ever episode of WCW Nitro while in negotiations with the then WWF on a new contract. That type of ‘slap in the face’ usually results in Vince McMahon blackballing you from WWE forever and if a talent is suffering financially then so be it Vince will never help him out again. Of course we all know that Vince has softened on that stance since the death of both WCW and ECW.With the returns of Sable, Piper, Hogan.Nash, Hall, and even Paul Bearer, Vince has let grudges disappear as opposed to holding onto them forever like in the past.

The belief I have is that Sting said this as a way to guarantee himself that he will never get a call from WWE again. Sting I am sure believes that WWE will never hire Luger to a new contract and therefore Sting will never have to join the WWE.Sting either really does not want to wrestle again or is afraid he will fail in the WWE like so many other WCWers and ruin his legacy. This of course is where Vince McMahon should be the wise business that he is and back Sting into the corner that he put himself into. Sting is really the only remaining megastar of the past decade to never work for the WWE.In a way I think Vince is secretly loathing that fact because Sting will be able to boast that for the rest of his life. As petty as that might seem, those are the type of things that keep Vince awake at night.

First, let’s look at what is being reported. Sting wants to help out a friend in despair who is down on his luck monetarily. Lex Luger is not financially secure like Sting anymore based upon a few legal implications that have depleted his finances. Lex needs money but to what degree? Sting wants WWE to give Lex gainful employment to help him get back on his feet but that does not mean Sting expects Luger to be a multi-millionaire. What if Lex would work for $100,000 a year, would that be worth it to get Sting into the company even part time? Right now WWE is lacking star power on Smackdown and the show is suffering tremendously in the ratings because of it. Luger is not a great worker or even a decent worker but he does posses name value. The same name value TNA will be seeking once they get their TV deal in place.

Certainly the name value of Lex Luger is pretty worthless once he steps foot in the ring and wrestles but it still is name value regardless. Would WWE expect Luger to draw well at houses or PPV whatsoever? Of course not and I am sure that the WWE would be banking on it but what WWE would count on is the added viewer ship that comes with the appearances that Sting would be doing. If WWE can get Sting and Luger at the same pay scale that it would have cost WWE for Sting alone full time then that might not be a bad business decision. WWE fans will always be hot for Sting and his brief programs ala Shane McMahon as opposed to getting burnt out on someone the likes of Goldberg due to repetition.

The main point to all of this however is what does WWE do with an aging superstar that could barely wrestle in his prime let alone in his forties? What could WWE do with such a lump of talentless mass? Well, there are things that might work and keep a current program progressing at the same time. Judgment Day is quickly approaching and the main event between Eddie Geurrero and John “Bradshaw” Layfeild is going to definitely happen. As much as every fan is dreading this match WWE is intent on making Bradshaw a household, main event name so except it for truth. The problem is that WWE cannot have this match take place and then let the feud die immediately thereafter. This feud needs to go until the next Smackdown PPV in July The Great American Bash.

The main position of the JBL character is that he is a self-made millionaire and that he did it through hard work and not having anything handed to him. That foreigners are leeches off of the American system and that America does not do enough to care for it’s own countrymen and instead caters more to the illegal immigrant that should not be there in the first place. WWE could use this angle to reintroduce Luger to the company as JBL presents to the wrestling world what happens to men who are down on there luck in the USA.JBL can call Luger out and tell the world that Luger was used and abused by the American way of life and that after Luger’s life was ruined by circumstances beyond his control, The American workforce shut the doors on him. JBL can preach the evils of America’s culture and that when one of there own needed help to put his life back together, every friend, family member and countrymen turned their back on him.

Luger will look like a shell of himself as he comes out of the curtains with his hair a mess, torn and ratty clothes and an unruly beard. JBL will state that if society will not help a true American like Luger (Insert July 4th Yokozuna slam and Lex Express) and would rather support people like Eddie (Show police mug shot) then JBL will help Luger get back on his feet. For the next few weeks have Luger going to high class places with JBL.First to the salon for a makeover then to get an expensive suit and then to the gym for working out and getting his body back to what it was. After a few weeks of this change have Lex re-debut along with JBL and start a program with the likes of Rey Mysterio or John Cena or Charlie Haas.

Bottom Line:

After a few weeks of Luger and JBL absolutely destroying people because of two on ones or cheating in general Sting will appear to tell the world that he never turned his back on Luger and that Luger has been lying to everyone all along. That could lead to either Sting vs. Luger or Sting/Eddie vs. Luger/JBL.Maybe not the best matches but at least it gives a reason for JBL to remain in the main event mix and adds two big names to the Smackdown roster. Would all this work and make anyone care about Luger in the WWE? Probably not but at least it would be better than just having Luger stroll out from behind the curtain for no reason and wrestle his terrible style without purpose. There could be things that could be done with Luger like being a bodyguard for JBL or a tag team with Sting down the road.

I think that if Vince can get Sting to appear for the next year and he gets to remove the ‘never worked for Vince’ tag that Sting currently touts, Vince will do it. If that means he needs to slightly overpay for Luger for the next year then so be it. Unlike Luger’s last run with the company, nothing will be riding on the shoulders of Luger.Lex will be a bit player and not a main event draw that doesn’t ever live up to the potential he once possessed. Even the worst of wrestlers have value if the WWE creative team makes him somebody that is intriguing enough to watch in non-wrestling related TV segments. JBL is the living example of that statement as we speak.

Again this is an unconfirmed rumor that may only have come from someone on the Internet but if this is truly a rumor with some merit behind it then it may not be as disastrous as some think it will be. Will Lex Luger bomb again as a wrestler? Absolutley but could he hold it together enough as a character so that fans of Sting will get to see him once again in the bigtimes? That is up to the creative department of the WWE but as I have said above there are ways to make Lex Luger “The Total Package”. Until next time that’s just my view. Feedback is always appreciated.

WWE doesn't need Sting and Luger is a waste of time no matter how you book him. Nuff said.

Luger would be overpaid if Vince gave him the loose change out of his pocket every week.

And the WWE does not need Sting. Sting demanding that Luger be hired should be enough to kill any interest in Sting.

This sounds like a great storyline. In 1989.

I'd be happy to see Sting have a very brief WWE run... someone to be brought in for one main event level program to put someone over, and then done. I just realize it's never going to happen, Luger/No Luger/nothing.

I doubt Sting and Luger would wrestle house-shows. They'd probably want a Goldberg-like contract, in terms of the number of dates per month.

I could go the rest of my life without someone suggesting WCW v.s WWE AGAIN!!! and be happy.

As for Sting, I think he has some value to WWE. He's the one name superstar from the Monday Night Wars never to work for WWE. Of course, two things going against him are his lack of interest in wrestling and his demands that Luger be brough along with him.

why because it was worth watching back then! I just lay awake at night hoping that turner will get back into so maybe just maybe it will be worth watching again!

I'm confused. You say you want Luger and Sting and Steiner to go to Smackdown to have a WCW v.s WWE war again.

Then you say you want Turner to get back into the wrestling business, because that's when wrestling was worth watching.

These are really two separate arguments.

I could deal with Sting getting a run on Smackdown while Luger got to play a sort of Hogan post 2002 title win role (ie. putting over anyone and everyone they can think of before sending him home). As much as I can't stand Luger, the fact is Smackdown needs some name talent right now and if Luger could be a pro and convincingly put over some new guys I could deal with it.

On an unrelated topic, I could also deal with hell freezing over and pigs flying. The Luger that "put over" O'Haire and Palumbo on the last WCW PPV has no place in today's WWE.

I´d like to see Sting wrestle one or two big matches for WWE, but Luger.........?

A good opportunity would be the 10/19 Raw PPV! Name it "WWE Starrcade 2004-A Flair for the gold...again!", headlined by Triple H/Flair for the world title (Ric´s last title victory ever!) and give Sting a big match (including big build up) with Orton or Kane or Michaels or ....?
Add Benoit/Jericho in an #1 contender´s Iron Man match and there´s your huge, huge buy rate!
If necessary give Luger a match with Matt Hardy or (better than that) with Eugene!

Well, you gotta admire Sting for wanting to get Lex back on his feet. But I think the best thing Lex can do is never again set foot in a wrestling ring. Maybe the Stinger can loan Luger some money and help him get into school, get a degree and get a real job, because Luger (never good in the ring to begin with) is absolutely the shits wrestling-wise now.

As much as I like the Stinger, I don't want to see him join WWE. Let his legacy stand on its own. There's no way Sting can accomplish anything in WWE that he didn't accomplish in WCW, and there's a very good chance he might embarrass himself. If Sting had joined the WWF circa 1992, that would've been something, and Sting would've been a WWF main-eventer for years to come. But now, he'd probably be good for only one run at the top before he's putting Paul London over on Velocity.

I missed the whole Monday Night Wars due to work, so only know of Sting by reputation. I know he has a huge fan base, and WWE needs to pull out all the stops to get people remotely interested in Smackdown. Lets face it, the show is a twenty minute watch now, as its viewed on fast forward. On that basis, I could tolerate Luger in small doses, not offending us with his 'wrestling skills' to get the Stinger on board. If we must suffer Luger, then Forzees' suggestion is as good as any.

Luger is worthless, but i wouldn't mind seeing Sting come in for a small feud with the Undertaker.... both of them have more elaborate gimmicks (sting could use some of the old "crow" elements he did back in WCW), and it would allow a situation in which we could see a dream match (well, sort of), without having them mix with the rest of the roster.

plus, considering the fact that Smackdown is a tad light on superstars, i'd think that a Sting/Taker feud would be fun, and draw at least some people's interest due to their histories. if they even wanted to, they could do a story in which sting was the guy who never went to the WWE, and Taker never went to WCW (of course they would leave out the "Mean Mark" era, but we would look moreso at the fact that Taker never left when WCW was snapping up all the stars back when).

Smackdown could really use Sting. The Undertaker is the only established main-eventer they have right now, and Sting would be good for business. I've always liked him as a wrestler and a character, and he could add a lot of fresh feuds to the Smackdown mix.

He was the one guy from WCW (besides Flair) who I really wanted to see on WWE television. He's also the only legitimate WCW top star that hasn't had a run with WWE since Vince bought them out. I think it'd be fun having him on TV.

I'm a Flair mark. I know every now and then he can dig down and get some of the old magic going in the ring. But he's also a 55 year old grandfather. You don't put a World Title on guys in their mid-50's.
As for Sting, he stopped caring about wrestling in 1996, so why think anything has changed?
As for Luger, I'd rather watch Sid vs. Warrior vs. Mabel in a 2 hour marathon 3 way match than see Lex in the ring again.

I can't muster Sid hate after seeing that injury. I just can't do it. I feel so bad for him.

As for Sting, I never got what was so appealing about the Ultimate Warriors Bisexual Cousin. The Crow version was okay, but he never had anything special when it came time for him to run with the title. Only good one was with DDP, who was a God during this time period and to this day is Goldberg's best match.

I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.
