I agree with letting Steiner go is a mistake. This is another, although, small list of how WCW did things right that WWE didn't. I think WCW booked Steiner, Lance Storm, and Raven better than WWE ever did. But anyway, Steiner can be a good heel if need be and WWE just didn't capitalize on it. I agree with putting Steiner on Smackdown and have him with the Dudleys has a stable. One thing I missed with Steiner in WWE is Midajah. If Steiner does go TNA, which I am hoping, maybe Midajah won't be far behind.

Since the reports was based mainly upon a guess of the WWF/E's direction involving Steiner, he'll probably be back in about 2 weeks.
Now, if they are letting him go, good. I thought he was a disaster waiting to happen when they were trying to sign him, and somehow he was even worse than that after he arrived.
In terms of Steiner being over/a draw upon him leaving WCW: The company continued its death spiral during his push, and the highlight of his World Title run was Sid breaking his own leg.

These are desperate times. And desperate times call for desperate measures. Thus, its time to break out the Cubs/White Sox/Red Sox call to put the Kaiser back on the throne.

This is gonna sound obscene, but my biggest fear of Steiner, given his age and the appearance of his body, is that he'll die soon. He just looks so horrible sometimes and I just don't think he should carry around all that weight now that's up passed forty. I'm not suggesting this is WWE's motivation for not using him, but it is a reason I don't want him on my TV.

As for WWE not using him correctly, I think that is a bit revisionist. There was never one time in WCW that he was ever put over as strongly as he was his first few months in WWE. The way he came in at the Survivor Series in MSG, the way the two GMs were trying to pull any trick they could to sign him to their shows, and the amount of ass Triple H showed him when they finally signed that match; these are all indications that WWE intended to use him as an upper-tier player. They treated him like a superstar and then at the Rumble he turned in the most pitiful performance of his lifetime. It's not creative's job to "find something" when you prove to the world that you have no business in a wrestling ring. It wasn't just that the matches were bad, he was putting his opponents in danger with his sloppiness. So as much as I can understand why some are contesting a role ought to be found for him on the SD! end of things, and while I do acknowledge that he certainly got a lot better in the ring after a few months, I just don't see much of an upside.

I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.

Yeah, Steiner at one time could have been great but then he obviously juiced up and surprise the injury bug kept biting him in the proverbial ass. So now the same net that for the longest time has asked for RVD & Booker to get pushed and younger talent to get pushed asks for Steiner to get pushed instead. In a perfect world Steiner would be good enough to deserve a push but it's not a perfect world and Steiner sucks. So now deal with RVD & Booker getting pushed and some trials and tribulations on Smackdown as they figure out what young talent will step up and get over. RAW is red hot and the WWE obviously is trying to get something new built up on Smackdown. It's going to take time to build the future. Steiner isn't the furture thank god!

and thats all i have to say about that!

No! He shouldn´t go to SmackDown! He shouldn´t do anything else but go! And he should take guys like Hardcore Holly, Billy Gunn, A-Train and Test with him! Please!

You can´t let talent like Raven, Jeff Hardy and Spanky go and therefore start pushing crap like those named above! That´s insane!

I think bringing Steiner back in a non-wrestling capacity would be all right. Like maybe as a bodyguard or a hired gun. Let him do some of his WCW circa 2000-01 stuff, smashing people upside the head with lead pipes and shit. That was cool to watch.

Perhaps as support for Booker T against Undertaker? I could see that happening...two old WCW-ites, often on opposite sides, team up to try and knock out a WWF/WWE mainstay.

They don't have to explicitly SAY "WCW vs. WWE" ('cause we know how well that worked out), but the backstory would be right there.

Wow.

For almost a year, I've been saying that the WWE dropped the ball on Steiner, that whatever his in-ring deterioration, his character and charisma were still over as a heel, and he could have been used in the uppercard, to get faces over.

Sure he stunk up the joint as a face, but do you really think that the average mark thinks, "Scott Steiner wrestled a really bad match back in January of 2002 against Triple H, so if he bloodies Eddie Guerrero with a lead pipe, I'm not gonna boo him, because that may lead to a main event push..."? Whether we want to believe it or not, post-invasion, the WCW names that fans REALLY wanted to see were Goldberg, Sting, Flair, Hogan, Nash, and SCOTT STEINER. In the dying days, he was carrying the entire promotion on his back. He was every bit The Man in WCW that Brock Lesnar was on Smackdown, and while his wrestling ability was lacking, he still had a knack for the things that could get you into a match. But as a heel. Was he sloppy? Sure. Did he sometimes look lost? Yep, but usually when he was trying to curry favor with fans, or TAKE a beatdown. On Steve Austin's RAW, Monster Heels had their credibility tarnished by taking beatdowns from Austin. Big Poppa Pump during his WCW days, never took a beatdown.

Scott Steiner, in his most marketable persona, was seen as a loose cannon. From the moment of his debut, he began belying that characteristic. He was a face, and he was highly restrained. The Steiner of old didn't have staredowns and posedowns and pushup contests. The Steiner of old didn't have political debates and lead fans in "USA" cheers. The Steiner of old wouldn't be a perfect gentleman to Stacy, rescuing her from her abusive boyfriend. Big Poppa Pump would be that abusive boyfriend. Big Poppa Pump would toss guys around just on GP. Big Poppa Pump would assault announcers and ring staff. Big Poppa Pump would lead pipe Steve Austin, and put him in The Recliner, for ruling against him. And if Steiner went to Smackdown and did those types of things, they'd have an uppercard heel on their hands.

In the same way that John Bradshaw Layfield was given four weeks to merely showcase his antics, delivering the incredibly destructive CLOTHESLINE to the champion and others, Scott MUTHA-BLEEPING Steiner could show up on Smackdown, suplex Guerrero, pipe him, and bend his body back in the Steiner Recliner, while Tazz sold the move as one of the most devastating in history. Just as JBL was given 15 minutes to promote and pontificate, giving Steiner a live mic for five minutes, then allowing liberal post-production bleeping and clipping, could position him as a legit contender for Eddie's belt. Or if you wanted to aim lower, he could be thrown out as fodder for the John Cena push. Having one of John's flowmos interrupt a Steiner bull session would set up a match with more luster than "Rapidly losing his edge" John Cena fighting "French jobber who is being pushed right now" Rene Dupree. (Don't get me wrong; I like Dupree, but I believe that Cena-Steiner RIGHT NOW is more marketable than Cena-Dupree.)

Fans are conditioned to believe that after a long absence, a returning star "means business." They are willing to accept that star in a higher card position than when they left. That's why WWE sold us on Hardcore Holly: Main Eventer. If fans were able to stomach that feud and match, they'd be able to stomach "Scott Steiner, former WCW champion, is pissed-off at how he was treated by WWE brass, so he crashes Smackdown and attacks people until he gets a WWE Title match against Eddie "I love the fans" Guerrero." Hey, if they wanted, they could bring up their WCW history, where I'm sure their path crossage led to Steiner having the upper hand.

Our feeling right now is that Smackdown isn't running on all cylinders, but it also isn't fully stocked. Well guess what? Steiner fits the bill.

Need someone to keep a feud warm with Eddie while top contenders heal or rebuild credibility? Plug in Poppa Pump...

Need someone to bring the edge out of John Cena, showing off his mean streak? Plug in Poppa Pump...

Need someone to "write out" Rey Misterio, so he could have a hot feud upon his return? Plug in Poppa Pump...

Need someone to feed to the Undertaker? Plug in Poppa Pump...

There is/was no downside to bringing in Scott Steiner. They are paying him anyway. At the very least, his presence makes Smackdown feel less bush league. A revitalized Big Poppa Pump is an asset to any promotion in need of a quick fix. A three-month story arc involving an up-and-comer is all Smackdown needs, and Steiner is certainly up to the task. In fact, if WWE sits Steiner for five months, they actually make him a more attractive option for TNA. The "loose cannon" who was taken off TV for nearly a year because Management was "afraid" of "what he might do" gives Big Poppa Pump his swagger back. He could be fed to AJ Styles and make a new phenomenon. Plugging in Poppa Pump might be better for TNA then bringing in Hogan or Nash.

And all this to say that WWE dropped the ball before with Steiner, and they need not drop it again. Scott Steiner still has value, and WWE still has need. Give him a chance to earn back your investment, and give fans a chance to wash out the bad taste in our mouths...

Amen to Madiq's comments. Everything that needs to be said on the subject is there to consult, debate, pick apart, and back up.

Steiner IS useful right now. If the creative team is unable to find ideas for wrestlers, as someone said, then they should be finding new jobs. It is NOT the creative team's job to decide whether or not a wrestler sucks in the ring. Their only job is to find them an on-air personality or feud. Steiner was one of the best US champs of all-time, IMO, and I don't even enjoy his matches.

I don't know if I'd wanna see him "pipe" anyone.

No I do agree with your statements there, but I don't agree that they "dropped the ball" with him. Again, they did all the things you just mentioned in his initial run. Why would it be better this time, just because the heel/face dynamics are different now? If anything a heel has to be better than a face because the heel is supposed to lead the dance.

I never really liked Scott Steiner as a singles wrestler, but was a bit of a Steiner Brothers mark back in the day. I would endorse Madiq's suggestion to send him to Smackdown rather than drop him completely. Anyone know what Rick Steiner is doing at the minute? I mean, they want to bring Jeff Hardy back....

Given a good opponent, Steiner can carry his end of the match. His match with Goldberg back in WCW was never even supposed to be decent, but it turned out to be refreshingly good. An injury-prone Triple H was the wrong opponent to give Steiner, but I could see him working at least a mediocre match with John Cena or Undertaker.

I don't want to repeat too much of what's already been said, so I'll just say that there are still useful roles for Scott Steiner, even if it's a filler role like wheeling Kurt Angle's wheelchair around.

Steiner will possibly be the experienced Superstar who will be the Bodyguard for Hirihito

"His match with Goldberg back in WCW was never even supposed to be decent, but it turned out to be refreshingly good."

That was coming up to four years ago, though. The man is in such a state of physical deterioration that it was time to call it quits before he even got into WWE. WHy do you think they waited so long to sign him? His foot was such a wreck that he couldn't get any kind of medical clearance. He managed to pull out some kind of guarantee, I guess, but still-his contract is probably four or five times that of a Horshu, and and there's no point in wasting TV time on him if he's going to demand similar pay once his original deal expires.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

I trying to think really hard and I can't come up with one highlight from Scott Stiener in the WWE. Anything from an over-expectation match or a funny segment or skit. I did get a chuckle early in the posedown feud when HHH looked at Steiner body and give this "OMG he's huge" look on HH face, but that's more on HHH end of entertainment... The only Steiner feud I remember is with HHH, Nowinski debate and the Stacy/Test stuff that never ended & was so bad with every month some match with "Stacy on the line".

I was never a "juiced up" Steiner fan, even in WCW when everyone wanted anyone new on top. I just couldn't get behind Steiner. Character and wrestling wise he was not someone I really enjoyed... But damn you madiq you played a great politician(or maybe Steiner PR guy) because you kind of sold me, still not a Steiner fan but Smackdown has been so bad, he at least brings some character to the show. I could see a Steiner/Cena feud to be interesting.
