CRZ.net, the machine which controls all the DNS for the domains I have, crashed at 0300 PDT this morning. I was blissfully unaware and sleeping it off. Somehow, that server - which has never crashed BEFORE and always come back up every time there WAS a problem - KNEW that I was no longer employed, and picked THIS time to inconveniently become unavailable. Because I have the timeouts set pretty low (anticipating a quick IP change when the servers move) and because the box was down for ten hours, some of you might have received "the-w.com is unknown" type errors due to the fact that the DNS actually expired on the secondary servers. What all this means is, THIS server wasn't down, but ANOTHER server on which this server depended WAS. I am taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen again...or at least, if it does, that I can find out about it faster and fix it before anybody notices. :)
