My picks:

HART:
Martin St. Louis - Best player on the best team.

VEZINA:
Martin Brodeur - Kiprusoff didn't play a full season. Luongo would have gotten it if Florida had made the Playoffs. Brodeur wins it.

NORRIS
Chris Pronger - He was the Blues defense this year and played so much and so well.

SELKE
John Madden - Draper had more goals but this is supposed to be the best defensive player. Madden was the best defensive forward on the best defensive team.

CALDER
Andrew Raycroft - Ryder is close but what Raycroft did was outstanding.

LADY BYNG
Martin St. Louis

JACK ADAMS
Ron Wilson - Without Teemu Selanne and Owen Nolan, he took that team and made it into the 2nd best team in the West.

MVP: St. Louis - who woulda thought Tampa would have been 1st in the conference at the start of the year? This guy is the leading scorer in the NHL, led his team to a #1 seed, and did so without a lot of name talent.

Vezina: If Kiprusoff had played a full year, I'd give it to him in a heartbeat. Luongo didn't win anything. Brodeur wins by default.

Norris: Pronger did the job of two people with MacInnis out. He wins hands down.

Selke: I'll predict Madden because he won last year, but without watching many games involving any of those guys I can't say who deserves it. Not really a characteristic you can judge by statistics.

Calder: Joni Pitkanen.

Lady Byng: I couldn't care less about this award; how the Lady Byng is considered a major award but the Masterson is an afterthought I have no idea. St. Louis will win because he's an MVP candidate.

Adams: Darryl Sutter. Ron Wilson took a team that, on paper, should have been much better than it was a year ago and basically brought them back to where they should have been. Tortorella did a very good job, but his team was way further ahead of where Calgary was last year.

That would be a major upset since he's not one of the finalists (at least if Freeway is correct in his listings above). Raycroft.

-HART: Iginla -- Yes an upset, but I think the voters will think Iginla paid his dues more and give him the award in a surprise to end the night.

-VEZINA: Brodeur -- Same reason as you guys did, pretty much by default. But how Belfour isn't in here is beyond me.

-NORRIS: Chara -- Very close race, can make a case for all three. But I'm in an upset feel this year. Hate to sound like a homer but McCabe has a better plus/minus and scored more goals then Pronger & Niedermayer

-SELKE: McCauley -- Best plus/minus of the 3. Plus he can come back to Toronto for the awards and laugh at our face.

CALDER: Raycroft -- Since 1990 only 3 Goalies have won the award (Belfour, Brodeur, and Nabokov). Not bad company if Raycroft wins it

LADY BYNG: St. Louis -- As an I'm sorry for not voting you for the Hart.

ADAMS: Wilson -- This is a funny award, it usually goes to the coach that has the most improvement in points from the previous season. It's funny because it's usually just a fluck season and get back to reality the next season and the season after that the Jack Adams coach gets fired. Wilson had the biggest jump in points this year so he'll win the award.

HART TROPHY (MVP):
Martin St. Louis [Tampa Bay]

I pick St.Louis even though Iggy did wonders for Calgary.

VEZINA TROPHY (Goalie):
Miikka Kiprusoff [Calgary]

He was so much impressive. I have a feeling they will go with Brodeur though.

JAMES NORRIS TROPHY (Defenseman):
Zdeno Chara [Ottawa]

The best defenseman this year, hands down.

FRANK J. SELKE TROPHY (Defensive Forward):
Kris Draper [Detroit]

CALDER MEMORIAL TROPHY (Rookie):
Michael Ryder [Montreal]

GO HABS GO!

LADY BYNG MEMORIAL TROPHY (Gentlemanly Conduct):
Martin St. Louis [Tampa Bay]

If Alfredsson wins the Lady Byng, I'm going to rush the stage. He's one of the cheapest players in hockey.

Hart
------

Gotta be St. Louis. He was the best all year long.

Vezina
-------

Luongo. Luongo. Luongo. This is for best goalie, right? Without him, Florida wins less games than anyone else in the league. He single-handedly kept them afloat. Sorry to Kiprusoff, but he did not play enough to earn it this year. Do it for a full season of being a number 1, then we'll see.

Norris
-------

Niedermeyer. Without Stevens he held the Devils D together. 2nd in scoring for D and +20. He deserves it.

Selke
------

Draper. Anyone of the three would be good. I would like McCauley to win after the crap the Leafs put him through, but I think Draper wins.

Calder
-------

Raycroft. He did amazing things as a rookie goalie.

Byng
-----

I will be different and go with Richards. He had 1/2 the PIM of the other 2. WTF was the NHL thinking nominating Alfredsson?

Adams
------

Wilson. Not much was expected from the Sharks, despite whether people thought last year was bad or not. When your top 4 scorers are Marleau, Ekman, McCauley and Cheechoo, the coach is doing something right. On the radio this morning they said that Sutter will win Executive of the year, so he may not win this one too...

Yeah, he had 24 penalty minutes in 77 games this year! By god, he is the new Tiger Williams!

Isn't the Lady Byng trophy the one no one wants to win? I think Mogilny won it last year and didn't show up to accept it.

Not only that, I think Mogilny said something like "If I'm nominated, I won't show up" and they STILL nominated him, nevermind the fact that he ended up getting it.

Not that I blame him though. Can you imagine playing a rough, full contact sport like these guys do, giving everything in your body each night to try to help the team pound out another victory, and then at the end they give you the award for Most Ladylike Player?

Wait...back the truck up.

I don't follow hockey, so this might be something simple, but there's an award for MOST POINTS, but it's different from the award for MOST GOALS?

So, if a point is not a goal, what is a point?

You get points for assists as well.

Don't worry about it, I don't follow hockey worth a lick either.

The award is actually "given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability" (NHL.com). Past winners include guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Francis, both Hulls, Mikita, Keon, Boucher and Ratalle, so it's not like there are a bunch of jobbers on this list. God forbid that anyone in the NHL actually wants to win an award for playing hockey the way it's supposed to be played and not acting like a stick-swinging goon.

Amazingly enough, the Flames could add 3 trophies to their collective case in June. Local media is touting this is the biggest year in town since 1989 (when 5 Flames were nominees and we won something. I forget what). Anyhoo, here's what we've won so far...

Art Ross Trophy (Regular Season Points Leader)) [Jarome Iginla (2002)]
Bill Masterson Trophy (for Dedication to Hockey) [Lanny McDonald (1983) and Gary Roberts (1996)]
(Frank) Calder Memorial Trophy (for Most Outstanding Rookie) [Eric Vail (1975), Willi Plett (1977), Gary Suter (1986), Joe Nieuwendyk (1988) and Sergei Makarov (1990)]
Clarence S. Campbell Bowl (Campbell/Western Conference Playoff Champion) [1986 & 1989]
Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP) [Al MacInnis (1989)]
King Clancy Memorial Trophy (Humanitarian Work) [Joe Nieuwendyk (1995)]
Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Gentlemanly Conduct) [Bob MacMillan (1979), Joe Mullen (1987 & 1989)]
Lester B. Pearson Award (MVP Chosen By NHLPA) [Jarome Iginla (2002)]
Maurice Richard Trophy (Regular Season Goals Leader) [Jarome Iginla (2002 & 2004)]
President's Trophy (Regular Season Team Record) [1988 & 1989]

The wacky thing is that if ANY of the Flame nominees win, they'll become the first Flame to win it. Insane, eh?

A gold refers to the score of the game, a point is a statistic. A player gets a point for a goal or an assist.

This is different from the points the whole team gets for wins/losses. A team gets two points for a win, and one for a tie or loss in overtime, and nada for a loss. This number is what is used for the team's standings, rather than won/loss record, like in other sports.

HOCKEY STATISTICS FOR DUMMIES:
GP = Games Played. If a player dresses and is one of the 20 players on the bench, he gets credited with a game played.
G = Goal. The last player to touch the puck before it goes into the opponent's net gets credited with a goal scored.
A = Assist. If the goalscorer had the puck passed to him by his teammates, the last one or two will be credited with an assist (as they assisted in the goalscoring effort).
PTS = Points. Total sum of goals & assists for each player.
+/- = Plus/Minus. Everytime a goal is scored at even-strength (five skaters aside), every skater on the side that scored gets credited with a "Plus" and every skater on the side that got scored on gets credited with a "Minus". The logic is that a player with a high plus-minus is rarely scored upon, and therefore better defensively.
