So the current reports splashed all over the net is, of course, that Austin left straight after his match at Mania and din't show up last night for RAW. Because he's unhappy with the WWF AND the direction his character is taking. Of course, this may not be true.

But how the HELL can Austin have ANYTHING to gripe about?

He was booked over TWO men at Mania, DECISIVELY. He is the man responsible for his current goofy character. And if he is petty enough to feel that his spot is "threatened" by the nWo, then he is no better than Nash, Hall and Hogan are percieved to be. He claimed Hall wouldn't make it to Mania. He was proved wrong. He supposedly loudly voiced his disapproval at the nWo being brought in, citing all the usual complaints. So far, he's been proved wrong. Now he's staging a sit-in protest at his current character and the WWF's direction.

WHAT? an idiot.

I didn't miss him because the only place for him on the card was somehow mixed up in the nWo/Rock-Hogan stuff, which is something he should probably stay away from right now, as adding another face (or turning Austin again) would only sabotage the heat in the feud.

-Jag

Maybe Austin has a problem with stupid shit like the "Net gun" and the exploding cinderblock, and all the bad storylines leading up to WM? If that was his reasoning, I say he's right on. Plus, we don't know what lame ass direction Steph and company had planned for Austin after Wrestlemania.

Yeah, those things you just mentioned were moronic beyond belief. But the point is, Austin's behaviour is the sort of shit that the nWo would have been CRUCIFIED for back in the day. Austin's not exactly setting a great example to the boys. "Hey, I'm not getting my own way so I'll simply sit out and do NOTHING!" The guy already sabotaged the nWo's heat by crushing Nash and Hall at Mania.

If Austin booked himself over the NWO, then I might be tempted to badmouth him. But at this stage, it's all rumors and such, so I'm not going to start hating on Austin. Not after he basically carried the main event for most of last year.

-Jag

Of course, the storylines around that main event did kind of suck for most of the last year. Ah well, give me Austin vs Rock/Angle/Benoit/HHH anytime, and I'll probably be a very happy man.

Even though this is being reported, I have learned since the WCW shut down that there is no true inside information on the net any longer. Unless Austin or McMahon has stated publicly that Austin is sitting at home as a protest I wouldn't believe it. My take on this is that Austin is being given the same lighter schedule that has been afforded to Rock, Hogan, Hall and Nash. The net does not have the inside scoops now that McMahon controls the business and any "scoops" that are out there.

Check this...

The Torch is reporting that almost an entire storyline was scrapped thanks to Austin. Apparently, Vince and Nash were booked to cost Austin the match at Mania, which would result in Linda's split ruling in RAW (in light of Vince's "un-owner-like" behaviour"). Austin allegedly insisted that the finish be changed.

Now, I put the Torch's credibility somewhere between 1bullshit and The Almighty Dave, which means I still got some scepticism. BUT the evidence is mounting. And I'm sorry, but this kinda behaviour is unprofessional and unnecessary.

I guess we'll see what happens-maybe this is a pseudo-work to to play off of the nWo's reputation.

I was wondering since i dont know too much about stone colds past. Has he exhibited behavior like this before? I dont recall hearing backstage stories like this before. Why would he do something like this now? It wouldn't benefit him any. I do not put any weight into these rumors for the simple fact that we dont know what's going on. I dont think anyone does. I personally think that he was given the night off due to no existing reason for him to be there storyline wise and maybe he just needed a break.

He basically led to Jeff Jarrett leaving the WWF for WCW in 98 or 99 or whenever. Austin didn't want to work with him, as he didn't feel that Jarrett was over enough. Right around that same time, he refused to drop the belt to HHH, instead dropping it to Mankind at Summerslam 99(?, who then dropped it to HHH the next night. He may have been right about Jarrett, but the fact remains that he can throw tantrums backstage in an effort to get his way, so none of this, if true, is out of the question.

Ok. I was having a brain freeze. I forgot about Double J. But why now? How would he benefit. Throw a big enough tantrum and you would get pushed down the ladder. It's not like there is a competing company to jump to.

While Austin's not a jackass of Hogan proportions, but he's been known to throw his weight around somewhat. In '99 he was given three options for a summer program: work with Billy Gunn (which the WWF weren't too keen on anyway), work with HHH, or work with Jeff Jarrett. The fed's initial choice was Jarrett-and they even started an angle with him-but Austin vetoed it soon after, saying it was beneath him (rumour has it that he was backed up by JR on this one). So Trips was given the spot in the SummerSlam main event. THEN, a week before THAT match (when Austin was due to put Trips over), Austin balked AGAIN, stating that his knees weren't up to the job. So Mankind was thrown in to win the title in a three way. How Austin's gammy knee would have affected him losing to Trips in a three way, we'll never know...

Can't remember many other reports, though-although his battering of Rikishi was HORRIBLY one-sided...

With the possible exception of HHH (possible because it is arguable as to how over HHH was at the time), Austin has continually been put into feuds with less than talented workers who are generally not seen as being anywhere near his level. I think he has a right to complain. Storm off and refuse to work until he gets his way, no, but he does have some valid complaints. At least in the past, he did. Since it is not entirely clear what the case is this time, I don't want to pass judgement.

Austin also didn't want to work with Owen after (somewhat understandably) the Summerslam match. In you remember, people were wondering about Austin's "tribute" on the Post-Over the Edge RAW because of the bad blood between the two.

Didn't Jarrett make some sort of negative remarks about "Austin 3:16", about it being offensive to him, being a Christian and all?

Yeah, I think that came on an interview on Nitro after he jumped. In regards to Austin not being on Raw...maybe he just got the day off, as was mentioned earlier...there wasn't really a spot for him on the show, and he doesn't really have anything going on right now - after beating Hall at WM.

I too have read now that the split announcement by Linda was supposed to make more sense because Vince was supposed to cost Austin his match at 'Mania. I really hope this is just b.s. and not true. If Austin is changing match decisions and running home because he's upset, and in the process hurting the biggest move the WWF has ever made (the split) then he is no better than Bret Hart. I don't care how much he thinks the direction sucks, or how much he has done for the WWF- he should NOT be allowed to call the shots. It's been proven in the past to 'cause monsters, and it hurts the product. I rarely agree with what Scott Keith writes, but he was dead on in his Raw rant when he said that this has a Bret/Shawn kinda vibe to it.

So I'm not buying into this stuff for now since it's all net talk, but I'll be really disapointed in Austin if it turns out to be true. Hopefully he will be back next week for the draft. If he is not picked that would be really f-ed up (not that this situation seems to be that serious yet).

Let's break this down:

-Not wanting to work with Owen Hart:

Now let's be honest, how many people would want to work with a man who was responsible for nearly ending your career, accident or not? I don't blame Austin one bit for not wanting to work with Owen.

-Jeff Jarrett:

Most of his heat was due to Debra, which was to say the crowd would pop Debra and then go silent. He didn't get any heat until they started that crap with him beating up women (which now the faces can do and get pops for, i.e. The Dudley Boyz). And didn't he badmouth "Austin 3:16" in his first promo back? I can understand why Austin wouldn't want to work with Jeff Jarrett either then, even though it might of helped Jarrett.

-Triple H:

Triple H wasn't exactly getting heel heat during his first months as a heel, and didn't get regular heat (heat that lasted for more then 1 show) until around Survivor Series when he started his feud with Vince McMahon. However on adding Mankind to cover up for Austin and so Austin wouldn't have to job is stupid and egotistical of him, especially since jobbing to HHH would have helped HHH get over more as a heel. On the bright side Austin didn't lose his smile.

-Scott Hall:

Why the hell should he? The reason Kevin Nash wasn't booked in a match for Wrestlemania was because he was back-up if Scott Hall fucked up and got fired. I still don't see any long term potential for the nWo, even if they do toss in X-Pac and/or Shawn Michaels to the mix. Keep in mind the reason Austin won was because Vince LET him. Vince could of told Austin to do the job if he wanted him too.

Let's face it. Most of the locker room hates the nWo, especially Kevin Nash & Scotch Hall. Those two have proven (especially Nash) to be toxic to a locker room. Hell Nash's "Brilliant" booking in 1999 directly led to the death of WCW. Why the hell should Austin, who without him the WWF would never of had that boom from 1998-2001, job to someone who probably won't be around in six months?

What should worry Austin was that RAW popped it's biggest ratings in months without him appearing on the show. Austin is going to have be careful, less he be shoved further down the card (let's face it, if we had to rank the Austin/Hall match in order of importance it was #4), and end up like Bret Hart in 1995: Getting main event heat but stuck in the mid-card.
