Well, Chicago was the site of Wrestlemania 13, and the beginning of the anti-Bret, pro-Austin movement. It only stands to reason that Chicago isn't a Hitman town.

Great edition of Raw tonight with an uber-hot crowd.

I hate to jump on the hate train but Lita fucking sucked so bad tonight. I felt bad for Trish, who always busts her ass in the ring and Lita just looks zonked worse then RVD on a Holland house show. Send her to OVW for a reality check and some serious re-training or just have her be a valet.

The Eight Man Main Event was spectacular. Everybody was working really hard and I'm looking forward to those three matches at Backlash.

Backlash looks like it'll probably be the best of the brand only shows to date and easily the best RAW brand PPV. If the Three Way and Christian/Jericho are anywhere near the level of their Mania matches, it'll be a good show. Foley won't dissapoint in a big singles match. Flair/Benjamin will serve its purpose and at the very least be entertaining. Victoria/Lita will suck hard but Victoria will distract by wearing a very small amount of clothing. Edge and Kane won't be good but it'll have really good heat in Edmonton at least.

Tajiri left the Cruiserweight Division and his stable to feud with THE COACH? What?

Oh and there won't be the obligatory shitty Dudleys tag team match stinking up the midcard. Looks like it'll be the Quebecers versus HurriShit. That'll be good enough when Hurricane and Conway are in.

I just finished watching it on tv, and one thing I notice about the main event was that Shelton and Flair were really slugging it out. It looked like Shelton was actually punching Flair probably because of being chopped on the chest really hard. If you look at the match Flair looks like he gets pissed and starts to chop even harder, and Shelton followed it with really hard punches to the face which I guess Flair couldn't take anymore so he dropped and "tagged" out(didn't really see it).I don't know, that's what it looked like to me, did anyone else notice it?

P.S. I finally registered after coming here for quite a while and just reading posts. So...Hello!

RAW was hot tonight... all of the segments seemed to click, the crowd was hot, and the superstars brought their A games to the show. RAW has just been doing it for me these past few weeks.

I marked out to see gradmaster Sexay back... I immediately thought TOO Cool was making a small cameo once the music hit. It was a fun little squash... Kane's reaction to BC was just hilarious.

I continue to pray that one day... the Fed will see the light and give Conway some more mic and ring time.

Although Lita was definately off in the ring tonight, I thought that her outfit was cute... anyhows.

The mainevent was just hot. It was just a throwback to the old days in the NWA and WCCW when they had smoking 8-10 man tags.

The show definately left a good taste in my mouth. Now I have to debate over ordering the PrideFC Heavyweight GP or Backlash this coming sunday.

I watched that show. I tell you, RAW is really developing a WCW feel to it now. From the big gold belt to "Johnny Nitro" and his theme music being the ACTUAL Nitro theme music (I missed that tune), to Bischoff running things, to huge brawls to end every show. We just need a bunch of fans throwing garbage at Scott Hall.

It definitely feels like they are building towards SOMETHING. Not sure what. I am curious, tho.

...you know, as a big Stevie Richards fan (obviously), I'm afraid that Johnny Nitro is gonna take his job. It's sad...

That being said, I like his character.

Mrs. AWArulz only saw Two segments of the show last night - Jericho laughing over Trish barking like a dog and then Jericho starting to put Trish in the Walls - Y2J is now her ultimate heel - and I can't talk her out of it.

Surprisingly, a decent show ...

I loved the sell of the spear by Johnny Nitro ... I'm anxious to see this kid get a match.

Foley ... God love him ... I wish he still had about five more years left in him ... he always entertains.

And I didn't see the Al Snow/Ninja at all ... I must be blind.

OK show. ME was good, but I wasn't blown away by it. Best match on the show, though, by far. Random stuff:

--Brian Christopher is back? WTF? Kanyon gets released because they've got nothing for him to do, but they hire this goof after a few months? Bah. Nothing going on for: Matt Hardy, Cade, A-Train, Palumbo, Stevie, Venis, Tajiri (I don't count a feud w/ Coach), to name a few people, but they make room for Lawler's kid. Wonderful. And the match w/ Kane was brutal, too.

--Lita/Trish was brutal. Lita looked somewhat coherent in the ring, but was still pretty bad. And Trish is nuts for taking a suicide dive from Lita, the proof being Lita landing full force on Trish's face. Post-match beatdown on Jericho was nice, though. Slut Trish = mmmmmm-mmmm.

--I get the idea of the heel controlling the match to build heat for the face, but Grenier ramming knee after knee after knee into Helms' midsection was just awful. At least Helms got a win (first since...?).

--Tajiri/Coach match at Backlash? How about a feud w/ a *wrestler*? I don't care how over Coach can get himself, having him feud w/ wrestlers is just a waste of time.

--ME was good. Crowd was way into it, and Benoit & Flair were just brutal (in a good way) laying in the chops. And Flair has turned into quite the workhorse since injuring his neck. Orton again looked like he messed up the RKO (let go too early), but the camera angle kinda hid it. And I'm not sure I get the reasoning behind HBK pinning Orton. Good lead up to the PPV, though.

Really good show last night.

I'm going to be somewhat disappointed if Cactus Jack is only appearing in characterization on Sunday (and Mick gets introduced as himself) but it was great to hear that name again. I also loved the little added touch of him being able to see Randy coming from a mile away. Hey, Randy? You may be winning that match on Sunday, but you're about to go through the ninth circle of hell on earth in order to get there. I don't think you're well acquainted with Barbie (and her red-headed twin sister) well enough yet. Hee hee hee

It almost made me thrilled to see Jericho get beaten up like that, because what that means is he's either winning the match on Sunday or, at the very least, getting some kind of revenge on Trish. (The ideal way for the match to end is Trish tapping to the Walls, which would accomplish both.) My one concern is, with the feud blown off with Christian and both Clique members out of the title picture (with Hunter off to Hollywood and Shawn having exhausted all his chances) that Jericho moves back into the main event and gets to challenge Benoit, face against face, but of course, that's probably not going to happen. (Stupid Clique.) I can't think of what else they might do with him though...

I have an opinion on the subject of Eugene, and I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me on it: I see the potential. I see what Vince is trying to achieve with it. If (and with the Raw creative team's reputation, this is a big if) they handle this correctly, they could make huge babyfaces out of both Dinsmore & Regal. Ground it in last night: That whole exchange with La Resistance & the stuffed bunny had to have tugged at a few heartstrings. If it didn't, then you're a heartless bastard, period. What they need to do from here is stuff similar to this, but over time, Regal needs to develop a genuine liking for and (dare I say it?) love for Eugene. Regal needs to be the classy individual he claims to be and see things from a radically different perspective; that of someone who (in storylines, at least) doesn't know any better and (even more crucially) gets his feelings hurt very easily. In short, it must get to the point where Regal is willing to both 1) defend Eugene's honor, in the ring, and 2) Help him reach a point where he is able to do so himself. (In fact, while it may initially sound slightly unbelieveable, having Eugene be gifted to the point of "prodigy" when he gets into the ring, as a way to counteract the mental "shortcomings", is probably the ideal route to take for #2.) I was skeptical just like all of you - but Vince has shown me enough for me to believe this could work. Let's see where it goes from here.

If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...

"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!"
"And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!"
"What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!"
"They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!"
--Mike Sweetser

"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!"
"Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?"
"Are those Mushrooms, JR?"
"Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!"

First damn thing I thought of. Man, the crowd just hated Coach. And Al ruled the earth as the ninja. I wasn't around in the "Shinobi" days people speak of, so I had no idea Al could wrestle this style. I think an excuse should be found for him to keep it. (Interfere in the Tajiri/Coach match and assert that his skills are greater than Tajiri's and the loss on Raw was a fluke.)

Heh. My first thought during that Flair promo: "It was a mirage, a mass-hallucination." I loved Shelton's immediate attack on his just-announced PPV-opponent. And the way he scared Bischoff right out of his own office.

Yep. Something to the effect of, "I'm still kicking, no matter what some people..." trail off and then get back to the match. I think that was clearly a reference to Johnny Ace's recent takeover of his old job of talent relations, presumably some website somewhere jumped to the conclusion that good ol JR had actually been fired outright, not just transitioned into a new role.

You mean official T-Shirts, or crazy Jesus T-Shirts? My favorite was "Stars and Stripes" (the stripes were analogized with the stripes caused by Jesus' whipping, I don't remember what the stars were compared to?)

Speaking of that Mick Foley package (which ruled), it's about time that Orton reacted to Foley with simple naked fear. I've been begging for him to show more fear ever since Foley's first big promo (the one where Foley busted himself open by punching himself in the face, and looked like he was crying blood). Better late than never, I guess.

Renegade Raine says:

My reaction to GMS coming out: "What the hell is HE doing here?!"

But Kane's expressions are GREAT! Raw truly does need more Kane.

With the suprise debut of GMS, I was SO hoping that the ninja was Steve Blackman.

I was too busy during the Triple H promo trying to figure out what color his eyes were (either light brown or hazel) to hear what he was saying.

I'm probably the only person, but I marked out when Trish beat up Lita. Then laughed as Christian rammed Lita into the barricade. Of course, I'm the same person that laughed at a man crying on a talk show earlier.

HOLY CRAP! Not only did Hurricane make it to the ring, he won the match too! Poor Eugene though...it was such a nice bunny too! I hate to admit it, but the guy's growing on me. But Regal could have something to do with that too.

Johnny Nitro is kawaii, as usual. Edge, however, is starting to look like an albino lovechild of Triple H and Rob Zombie.

Triple H= doing some movie after the PPV
HBK= got the big win on the show before the PPV

So that means...Benoit retains! Yay!

YES! That's exactly what I was thinking would be a good way to go with that Eugene character. Have him act the way he does outside the ring and even going to the ring. Then, when the match starts, he becomes a great technical wrestler that completely breaks down his opponent with precise scientific wrestling and then after the match, he goes back to acting the way he has been so far. I don't know much about Nick Dinsmore, but if he is capable of being a great technical wrestler, that could be a good way to go with that character.

They could also do a ManKind/Waylon Mercy style gimmick. Have Eugene act like he does outside the ring and going to the ring, then he becomes totally psychotic and brutal during the match. Then, as soon as the match is over, he's calm again. Maybe even have him give his beaten and battered opponent a stuffed animal or shake his opponent's limp hand before he leaves the ring.

From everyhthing I've heard about Dinsmore, he's a great technical wrestler. However, from the house show reports, it doesn't sound like they're going to go that route.

I really don't think he's talking to internet fans with comments like that. I mean, there's far from a majority in J.R. dislike, as there kind of is for Jerry Lawler.

It was in reference to the people in the company who've wanted to replace him with younger, better-looking announcers. Vince Russo almost got him phased out of his spot in early '99, as they were political enemies and Russo wanted him permanently replaced by Michael Cole (the whole Evil J.R. deal was supposed to entrench Cole as the voice of Raw). IIRC, Austin convinced them otherwise. Over the last year, there's been more and more of a push to use Coach as the lead announcer (I think from Kevin Dunn, among others) because he's younger and better-looking. I don't care how you feel about current J.R., but 1999 Michael Cole and 2003 Coachman weren't/aren't suitable replacements.

(All of this is from the Observer, natch, I'm not trying to be all insidey.)

I think this could lead to a nice face turn for Regal.

Dinsmore arrives at RAW on a short bus and is met by La Resistance. They crack wise about his unkempt hair and beard. They play hilarious pranks on him throughout the night, which leads to him goint apeshit and attacking both guys. But they gain the upper hand, beat him down and put him in a straight jacket, while a group of hospital orderlies walk menacingly towards the ring, with a tray full of meds, a box of Uno cards and a skull saw, implying a frontal lobotomy.

Cue the Regal run-in. Money.

I thought it was a nice touch that they gave Johnny Nitro the official Nitro logo, but while I'm thinking that, all of a sudden it hit me that it was the same music as well. Yep, guess I was a little slow there. But as soon as I realized it, I marked out like a mofo.
