Hehe, there are no "TANKS" in Final Fantasy games. An enemy can attack any of your characters. A "tank" is a character that has a ton of hp and defense that can absorb damage while "casters" do the real damage. It's really a term only applicable in MMORPGs.

"Huard, gonna go back to throw the ball. Sets up, looks, throws towards the corner of the endzone...it is INTERCEPTED INTERCEPTED, THE DUCKS HAVE THE BALL! Down to the 35, the 40. Kenny Wheaton's gonna score! Kenny Wheaton is gonna score! 20, the 10, Touchdown! Kenny Wheaton on the interception, the most incredible finish to the football game!"

Well, you could try using the Cover ability (in later games, I don't know if it was in VI), but that's usually not 100% effective.

Forgot about that Eddie...

Yea, most FF games have a KNIGHT ability or something like that. Never used it once, beaten every game. It would be nice if they somehow made all of the useless abilities actually mean something.

Yeah, FF6 had the True Knight relic, but I don't think you could give it to Umaro. He can only get the Blizzard Orb, right?

Blizzard Orb and the Rage Ring, which would allow him to toss one of his party members into the enemies for massive damage usually.

I think that Locke is SERIOUSLY getting a lack of respect here

He can naturally weild 2 items whose damage doesn't get dropped by the Offering (Atma Weapon and Valiant Knife), and he's the only real way to get 2 Atma Weapons without cheating.

Offering + Genji Glove + 2 Atma Weapons.

79,992 potential damage in one attack.

Nasty.

I never understood why people liked Locke so much. I never really used him. I've never really been into "stealing" items in those games(unless I have to for some sidequest).

In FF6 I usually used, Sabin(8 attacks!! no defense), Terra, Cyan, and either Celes, Shadow or Edgar depending on how I played the game.

You don't really have to build every team up that much for the end of the game if you get the charm item, it makes the last part SO much easier.

Probly gonna replay the game in a month... hmm

EDIT: Yeah, I also get everybody Ultima using the Cactrots. Only a few would choose the Ragnarok sword.

For me it was always Edgar, Sabin, Gogo, and Terra. Edgar had the chainsaw and the drill, which made killing so many enemies cake. Plus, towards the end of the game, I go to the tiny islands where all the Cactrots are and get everyone Ultima. THAT makes the game a snap.

The real way to gain levels is to head into the dinosaur forest with a party of 1. My personal favorite was Shadow, but you can't deny Sabin's Bum Rush, or an econimizer/gembox wielding Terra. Oddly enough, I had a soft spot for Gau too, and spent WAY too much time in the Veldt getting all of his useless rages. Relm, Strago, and Setzer were pretty much terrible.

Oh, I do that too, astro. And I try to get all of Strago's Lores, and whatever uselessness you can think of.

And yeah, you're an idiot if you take the sword instead of the Magicite. Mostly because one game, the save got screwed up and I got thousands of Dirks and Illumina swords... o_o

That happens to me ALL OF THE TIME. The first time I thought it was awesome, it made the game ridiculously easy. I had freakin 99 Economizers too! Plus selling alot of the stuff off gives you a ridiculous amount of gold. After the next few times of it happening, I started to get pissed off because it seemed I couldnt prevent it. Then I noticed the pattern, and I was able to rpevent it from not doing certain things. It always seemed to happen when I had Relm in my party and was in the forests just north of the Cactaur/Hoover desert. I think it was when I fought Crawlies, or Creepers, or whatever they were called. Weird stuff, anyone else have this happen under the same conditions?

But about the magicite/sword, I was never a big magic user with FF games before FF9, so I always picked the sword. I just liked the story alot better that way, since it reminded me of Japanese mythology. Creating a sword out of a mysterious substance, then undergoing a trial of blood (ie the Colliseum) for it to reveal its true power. Yeah, I read too much.

There're a couple of ways to get the Relm glitch to occur that I know of... the two I recall are the "dangerous" way (that can potentially crash the game) and a "safe" one. They both only appear to work on certain older versions of the game - I assume they fixed the glitches in later batches.

The "dangerous" way is basically having Relm Sketch an enemy after you've casted Vanish on it. I think it might also work if you try and Sketch the Intangir, but it's been a while since I did this...

The "safe" way, and the one I used when I was in a cheatin' mood, was the good ol' "have Relm Sketch Gau on the Veldt" trick. Never had any trouble with it crashing/corrupting anything.

The first Final Fantasy game was a bit different - the enemies attacked the top character an estimated 80% of the time. Thus, it was a good idea to put your fighter/knight character in the top slot so he could take 1 hp damage (whereas the black mage would probably take 50-100). Hence, a tank to a degree.

Man, GAU was the one man wrecking crew in that game. Near the very beginning he can get Cat Scratch, which does something ridiculous like 1000 damage a shot.....

And then later he gets the Offering, meaning he can do it four times in a row, and the Snow Muffler meaning he takes no damage from anything.....

ANy idea if these "glitches" occur with ROMs as well? Sorry if this would be common knowledge, but I'm not too knowledgable about the technology used to create ROMs.

Don't see why not, samoflange. The ROM is exactly the same as what's on the cartridge. The glitch is caused by the game's code, I believe, so the same thing would be in the ROM.
