Mostly good stuff for once...

--FILM--

Quentin Tarantino is trying to get Pierce Brosnan to go in with him and make CASINO ROYALE, the first James Bond novel. He also wants to film it for under $50 million.

Yes, yet ANOTHER potential comic book film franchise is flushed down the toilet...

Mark your calenders, The official release of STAR WARS Ep. III is May 19th, 2005 here in America and Canada.

XMen 3 will be coming out, but you gotta wait till 2006 for it, and it even has Brian Singer, yet again, directing.

Tim Robbins as Doctor Doom? That's what it's gonna be, as the first major cast member for the long awaited FANTASTIC FOUR film was announced along with Michael Chiklis is up for the roll of everyones favorite orange rock, the Thing. Tim Story, who directed BARBERSHOP is directing.

Freddy VS Jason... VS the EVIL DEAD! Bruce Campbell is in 'discussion' to bring Evil Dead's ASH into the the next film. I think some of you might have just creamed in your underwear, reading this.

Disney is on a fantasy kick, it seems, as they've optioned Piers Anthony's ON A PALE HORSE; the first novel of his 80's classic INCARNATIONS OF IMMORTALITY series.

David Duchovny is going around telling anyone within earshot that there IS, indeed, an X-Files 2 in the works and that a 'MAJOR HOLLYWOOD STAR' will be playing an all new character in hopes of bringing in more then just the hardcore X-Files fans to see the film. No title for the film as of yet, but shooting is supposed to start by years end... according to Duchovny.

Christopher Lambert, needing money BADLY I guess, has signed on for Mortal Kombat - Deception.

--Television--

After the huge success Sci-Fi had with their two Dune mini-series, They've decided to try out another classic series. RINGWORLD, written by Larry Niven, is on it's way as a 4 hour tele-film.

FARSCAPE fans, rejoice, Sci-Fi is also doing a 4 hour series called FARSCAPE: THE PEACEKEEPER WAR. All cast members are back and Rockne O'Bannon is writing it to finish off the series the way HE wants to. Brian Henson is directing.

Sci-Fi just keeps the stuff churning, with the announcement of SPECIES III and the Clive Barker produced and probably directed 'THE HISTORY OF THE DEVIL'.

What does FOX's WONDERFALLS and ABC's KINGDOM HOSPITAL have in common? They both are canceled! KINGDOM HOSPITAL will finish out it's run but it will NOT be picked up for a second season. WONDERFALLS should be gone by this Friday.

STAR WARS: THE SERIES???!!! Looks like we might NOT be as done with the series as we thought. There's talk of a weekly series to be produced 2 years after EPISODE III comes out, detailing a young Sith Lords rise to power. NOT a cartoon.

For that one ANDROMEDA fan out there, I hope you got cable. Sci-FI channel has bought the right to the show. The fifth and final season will be shown both on Sci-Fi and in syndication only Sci-Fi gets to show it two weeks earlier.

--DVD and VIDEO--

FREAKS and GEEKS finds it's way out on DVD this week with very little advertising.

ILSA: She Wolf of the SS arrives on DVD this week as well, this week, with a 3 disc boxed set. She-Wolf, Harem Keeper, and Wicked Warden are the three featured while the rights to Tigress of Siberia are left out in limbo.

Did you know there was a sequel to STARSHIP TROOPERS? Well, it's going straight to DVD. It comes out in June.

Did you know there was a sequel to THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY? Well yes there IS, it seems to have bypassed theaters for a direct to DVD release. It stars
John Malkovich and is available now.

QUANTUM LEAP is coming out on DVD as season box sets in June.

Wanna help SONY put stuff on the SPIDER-MAN 2 DVD. Go here (spiderman.sonypictures.com) and fill out the short questionaire.

Cerebus: RIP 1977-2004.

Nothing will beat the Peter Sellers 'Casino Royale'.

Tim Robbins would make a good Doom. If they write him like the comic, he will be under mask mostly, and Robbins has a good...air about him...to bring the royalty out of Doom.

If he's Doom, who will be Reed? For some reason, I think Brent Spiner could pull it off. Don't ask me why.

edit: too many he, him and he hims...

Yeah, it's funny, Fox barely announced the moving last week of Wonderfalls from Friday to Thursday. It got eaten alive by the Apprentice and CSI then all of a sudden they ax it. They've also deleted the Wonderfalls subsite from their site as well as any mention of the show (which is odd since if you look hard enough, sites for other cancelled shows on Fox can still be found on the site). Since the announcement Saturday, there's been a big uproar and alot of people (myself inlcuded) are hoping it can be saved. If all else fails, i'm pretty confident it'll get a DVD release after all the requests Fox's DVD department has been hit with in the past 3 days.

The show is getting shopped around to other networks right now (namely the WB and UPN). It was a well-written and funny show with a great concept. The only downside was that it was on Fox.

FYI, it's being replaced by replays of The Swan. ugh.

Fox does it again. Another good show down the drain.

Freaks and Geeks on DVD? SWEET SASSY MOLASSY! I loved that show. This is seriously some great news. Come see Linda Cardellini before she lowered herself to playing Velma.

Yeah, it's kinda weird seeing a girl who I think murders Sarah Gellar looks-wise playing the role of the ugly nerdy one (I have a soft spot for that hot babe next door look)

Does anyone know if Halle Berry's still playing Storm in X-Men 3? I remember her and Singer were constantly fighting during the production of X2, and rumor was she wasn't going to be back. Personally, I wouldn't miss her. Maybe we can get a better actress, preferrably one that's the right age to play Storm. Pam Grier, anyone?

I just saw a review for the Freaks and Geeks DVD in the latest Entertainment Weekly, and promptly marked right the fuck out. Apparently, in addition to the standard set (in stores now!), you can also head over to the website (http://www.freaksandgeeks.com/dvd/) and pick up a Deluxe Edition, which includes an extra two DVDs for the nice, tidy little price of 120 bucks. I haven't been this tempted to drop that kind of money on something since that huge Far Side collection came out last year.

Question: How can Tarantino make a Bond film? I thought MGM held all the rights to the James Bond franchise? And knowing how stingy MGM is with said franchise, I couldn't imagine them letting Quentin Tarantino direct it.

Now we just need an Undeclared DVD. Freaks and Geeks wasn't discovered by me until reruns on Bravo, I think, but I watched Undeclared from the beginning.

As for Wonderfalls, I have no problem with it being cancelled. I found it uneven, at best, and I only really liked one of the four(?) episodes shown. It was an ok concept, and sure we don't need more reality TV, but it's not like it was the second coming. I'll be interested to see how many people waste money contributing to a "Save Wonderfalls" project.

I think all the Angel/Buffy fans are desperate to latch onto another TV show they can like, because their lives as they know it are ending. Wonderfalls had a few Angel/Buffy/Firefly writers working on it, and thus the show had "potential" to be good. Plus, it had a cute/nerdy girl that seems attainable by those fans who are severely geeky and awkward. Same reason everybody loves Alyson Hannigan and she sells so many copies of Maxim, or FHM, or whatever pseudo-naked magazine she winds up in every few months.

EDIT: Wording was funky

Geez. I was sincerely hoping the rumors that Tim Story directing Fantastic Four were a joke. Turns out they are true now...may the Celestials have mercy on the world.

Does anyone really care about the Episode 3 release date? No matter what comes out in 2005, no movie will make up for Episode 1 and 2. You know what would be nice though? Fricking theatrical versions of the original trilogy on dvd, that ain't gonna happen though anytime soon. Speaking of star wars, anyone see that bit on THIS JUST IN? A Star Wars nerd trying to get in line at the cinema a year before it comes out, "It's 2005, O-FIVE." "I'm first."

Peter Sellers made an unofficial Bond movie, 'Casino Royale', and the director of Thunderball suied and won the right to make a new, unofficial, Bond movie, 'Never Say Never Again'.

There have been 22 Bond movies, 20 of which are 'Official' movies. (Die Another Day being the newest one)

If Halle Berry doesn't take the Storm role, they should offer it to Jada Pinkett Smith ... I think that would be a smooth transition ...

And I know his name gets attached to about every other movie made, but George Clooney would make a killer Reed Richards.

Halle Berry brought nothing to Xmen. Give any actress a blonde wig and 7 lines of dialog, and they could have done just as much. That being said, Vivica Fox would be my pick.

So, digging deeper, it looks like Brosnan might be done with Bond, and Tarantino's vision for 'Casino Royale', a "scaled-down Bond movie that would rely on story, not effects", is his attempt to get Brosnan to hopefully return.

Seems that Brosnan was none to keen on the idea of Britney Spears playing the female lead in the next film, preferring Kiera Knightley over Britney. (Good for him, I say.) Talks have broken down, and his friend Michael Madsen is saying that Brosnan doesn't want to do anymore films.

Hugh Jackman, Guy Pierce and Clive Owen have been rumored for the next Bond film.

No real surprise about "Kingdom Hospital", though ABC pimped the HELL out of it. When it got moved to Thursdays (starting this week!) opposite "The Apprentice" and "CSI", I knew they wouldn't last much longer.

It's a strange show....I have more questions than answers at the end of each episode, but I still watch it for some reason. Maybe it's the music.

Not that Angela Basset wouldn't make a good Storm, or that Vivica Fox isn't a fine actress who could also do the job, but I stick to my guns. Pam Grier should be Storm, and always should have been.

I remember hearing or reading that Angela Basset was originally approached to play Storm, but she declined. Personally, I say keep the character out of the next movie entirely. Sure, Halle playing the part badly, but she really didn't have much to work with either. The writers just didn't write the character well.

As for your points about Wonderfalls, Roy, well, they don't hold up around here. I never liked the Buffy/Angel franchise and thought Wonderfalls was a great little show with good writing and a charismatic lead actress. So there.

Somehow, I don't think I've even heard about Kingdom Hospital until this thread. Oh well.

I think Michael Chiklis is a great idea to play The Thing, I never would have thought of that!

Bryan Singer talked with FOX and he wants to film X-Men 3 & 4 back-to-back and release them a few months apart (ala Kill Bill) so he can go and work on projects other than the X-Men. Officially, Halle Berry's publicists are saying that everything got blown out of proportion and things were never that bad...and they've made up. Nobody really knows the *real* truth.

And the Broccoli family bought the rights to a TON of the Ian Fleming James Bond novels...but not Casino Royale. Also, two different groups got the rights to Thunderball, and it was made as Thunderball and Never Say Never Again, both times with Connery since he left the Bond franchise after a contract dispute. Seriously though, who'll put more asses in the seats: a charismatic Bond or a pop princess??

If they want to Drop Halle then they should write Storm out of movie. Angela Basset doesnt want it and Im sorry Pam Grier is 55 years old. No matter how old Storm is supposed to be in the comics no studio is going to replace Halle Berry with a woman old enough to be her mother. But if they had to replace her Sanaa Lathan would be perfect.

I would bet money that Hugh Jackman is the next MGM Bond. But Britney Spears? Why do people seem to think singers draw box office?

Im going to say one thing about Ep III. The final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin better be the greatest goddamn sword battle ever captured on camera. Seriously.

I would love to see George Clooney as Reed Richards, I just hope whatever studio is making the movie doesnt hold "Batman and Robin" against him.
