I used to really like Opening Day. But I'm a Texas Rangers fan so for the past several years it's been one of the hardest days of the year because it's usually the last day that we're in contention until the next Spring Training. This year will be no better.

It's already a good day because the Orioles have the best record in baseball...

We stopped pretending we would ratify Kyoto. We only spent $15 billion on AIDS in Africa. We did not take dictation from Paris. If we had done these things, it would minimize the world’s anger.

Is the world angry at Russia, which spends nothing on AIDS and rebuffed Kyoto? Is the world angry at China, which got a pass on Kyoto and spends nothing on AIDS for other countries?

Is the world angry at North Korea for killings its people? Angry at Iran for smothering that vibrant nation with corrupt and thuggish mullocracy? Angry at Syria for occupying Lebanon? Angry at Saudi Arabia for its denial of women’s rights? Angry at Russia for corrupt elections? Is the world angry at China for threatening Taiwan, or angry at France for joining the Chinese in joint military exercises that threatened the island on the eve of an election? Is the world angry at Zimbabwe for stealing land and starving people? Is the world angry at Pakistan for selling nuclear secrets? Is the world angry at Libya for having an NBC program?

Is the world angry at the thugs of Fallujah?

Is the world angry at anyone besides America and Israel?

Funny, Tampa was in the same position less than a week ago. Yet another season of 'All Hands On Deck' for game 2.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I just said.

Miller Park this Friday, Wrigley next Wednesday (I know, it's game 2, but it's the best I could do).

What I can't believe was the stat I saw on ESPN's Bottom Line. The Tigers won today, and it said that this is the FIRST time the Tigers have had a winning record since April 8, 2001! Are you kidding me? Do they always start out 0-10 or something?

I knew that the Tigers have sucked for some time, but that is a whole new level of futility. They ripped on Halladay though.

Yes, the Tigers are that bad. They had something like 11 hits today, which is probably like as many hits as they had in the first week last year.

I think the Tigers are going to be somewhat better than people think this year, but that just means they're going to be mediocre rather than terrible.

I think the Tigers got out to an 0-12 start in 2002. Manager Phil Garner had been fired before the second week of the season was over.

I'm joyful: Pirates beat Kevin Millwood and the Phillies 2-1. Unlike last year, the Bucs bullpen supported Kip Wells and Joe Table got the save.

But, since I live in Denver, I know the local "Opening Day" will end with an 11-8 loss for the home team... once again sucking all life and interest out of baseball in Denver before snow season ends. Just sucks, because I work about a block from Coors Field and it's kinda cool and elitist to think I have a desirable parking spot.

What in God's name happened to my Blue Jays today??? Yeesh, that was painful to watch.

Good day to be a KC fan, however.

The Blue Jays were all kinds of bad today. Down 1-0, they hit a triple with no outs and couldn't cash him in! Just sad... I think Halladay after that just thought "Screw This, my offesne isn't going to do anything" and just tanked it.

Oh and that Sportsnet widescreen picture thing, VERY ANNOYING

Lot of opening day upsets. The Rays, the Tigers, KC all won. Jose Mesa converted a save opp. Pedro sucked, but that's getting to be an opening day tradition. All this will likely be meaningless within a month, but it was still a fun opening day.

Woo-hoo!!! Tigers are over .500!! Undefeated, BABY!! If the Tigers win today, it will be the first time they've won 2 games on the road to open the season since 1984. You know what happened then, don't ya? WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!! IT'S ON NOW!!

In other news my beloved Reds could be beaten in a 3 game series by any of our local high school teams. I am disgusted with them at this point. I do think Griffey became the highest paid waterboy in the Major Leagues yesterday though- I guess it is good to have goals.

If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

I don't mean to beat the Reds when they're down.... but I glanced at a story this morning and the big item was : "Griffey was seen in the dugout. Walking back and forth and carrying a bat in both hands".

BOTH hands?! Ya'd don't say
