Hey, I was the first to be guarded and cautious about the Trips love going around after 'Mania, but I'm a shade more convinced he actually wants to help get someone over than I was before. It still remains to be seen where this leads, but again, you've got to give Triple H props for what went down tonight. Shelton looked like gold, and that backstage segment really hammered home the point that Shelton was the guy to get behind.

I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.

They made Shelton a star tonight. Now the question is if they can keep him a star next week. Smackdown should take notice...thats how you get someone over. Not what they did with Booker, building him up and then having Bradshaw come steal his heat.

The reason I think we have the "Smackdown Rebound" now is because SD! is getting some of its worst ratings and its obvious people are only watching RAW.

Triple H winning all the time can make his loses seem even bigger. Like him or not he is the best heel in the company.

Man Edge is such a Ultimate Warrior now. He got a lot bigger. Have Kane get buried at Backlash and send him to SD where they need top heels. You could also continue the UT/Kane feud.

Jericho needs to be dissing women in order to be a good face. That, "I have these feelings I cant describe for you", shit just doesnt work.

All in all....average show with a Great main event.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS!

I was happy enough when Bischoff booked Shelton vs. HHH for the main event. Even though I knew what was coming, Shelton would put up a good fight, maybe get a nearfall or two, and HHH would hit the inevitable Pedigree for the win, I didn't care, Shelton was in the main event on his first night on Raw. I thought maybe they were serious about giving him a push. Then it happened, Shelton actually rolled up HHH for the pin, and I marked out like crazy. I even marked out harder than when HHH tapped to Benoit, since I actually thought Benoit had a chance. I never thought HHH would actually job to Shelton. Kudos to Shelton for an awesome performance, and I can't believe I'm even saying this, kudos to HHH for putting him over. Hopefully this is the start of a big push for Shelton.

Random Thoughts:

Hurricane is the new Spike Dudley.

I feel really bad for Lance Storm. He has tons and tons of talent yet cant get the crowd to give two shits about him no matter what he does.

Shelton needs way better theme music. Its just too generic to be cool.

If Foley wanted to wrestle Orton 1 on 1, why couldnt he just make the match for WM and ask to ban Evolution then? It makes no sense if you act like it was all real.

Coach's overacting to the mist was PURE GOLD. And the green glow it gave Kane's face at the end of the match was really weird too.

Jonny Blaze/Spade/Nitro's name gimmick would be funny if he keeps changing it every week.

I bet Jericho is happy he can use the trashbag ho catch phrase again. You know he was begging creative team for a chance to re-use it.

Only Molly could be bald and still look hot as hell.

Shelton's got Kurt's evil smile down perfect.

Some weird booking in the undercard (Storm getting squashed, Rhyno's spontaneous face turn, Kane apparently getting fed to Edge?) but the main event makes it worth it. I think I can really grow to like this new HHH. He reminds me a lot of the old HHH. You remember... the one who was every smarks favorite heel back in 2000 or so?

A "ho-hum" Raw, but a fantastic ME. Random stuff:

--dig the crowd starting a spontaneous "Slut!" chant. I guess Jericho is officially face now. The "trashbag ho" spiel is gonna get old if he says it every week. And Trish looks so much better without her breasts pushed up to her ears.

--tag title match was OK, but nothing special. Just couldn't get into it. Flair is nuts for taking the triple Germans with a messed up neck, even if they were super-safe Germans.

--I was *so* ready for HHH to pretty much squash Shelton. Big ups to HHH (what?) for putting over Shelton like a champ. The crowd was digging him big time. Note to JR: learn the moves of the new guys. Here they are, having HHH put over Shelton, and JR can't even call the Dragon Whip, one of Shelton's signature moves. And, yes, I "marked out" for the Shelton win.

--Raw needs more Palumbo.

See? I told you all Sting could beat HHH.

Seriously, though, they did a good thing with Shelton tonight. I just hope it doesn't have an indirect effect on Benoit's reign as champion, and isn't another "Okay, I'll job here, so I can win there."

HHH has a baaaad history when it comes to people getting fluke wins over him, but I don't mind HHH beating Shelton again in a rematch. Shelton is relatively young and new to WWE, and has to work more on distancing himself as an individual (he did a GREAT job tonight, though). I can see them halting a Shelton push. HHH needs a win heading into Backlash so he can lose there.

EDIT: Changed my "Shannon"s to "Shelton"s. If wrestlers would stop using generic "real names" and start using cool names like "The Great Destructo" and "Sam U. Rai", I'd be less prone to confusing them.

Oh, I was marking like mad heck for the Shelton win. Of all the guys they brought over from Smackdown, he deserves the push and I hope this is the start of really big things for him.

    Oh, and Jericho rules.

Indeed.

I was waiting for it, and waiting for it, and then there it was. And it was just peaches even though it wasn't Stephanie. (I've never been a Trish fan, and I'm glad that the rest of the fans are finally catching up with me.)

Jonny Blaze/Spade/Nitro's name gimmick would be funny if he keeps changing it every week.

That's exactly what I was thinking when Lillian made the announcement. We could turn it into a competition: "What will Johnny change his name to this week?" :)

If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...

"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!"
"And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!"
"What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!"
"They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!"
--Mike Sweetser

"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!"
"Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?"
"Are those Mushrooms, JR?"
"Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!"

I'm hoping this will lead to Lance getting a dose of Mattitude as a partner. They'd be a good choice for Tag Team Champs after the makeshift Evolution team runs its course.

Shelton Benjamin sat on Velocity for what seemed like at least six months doing jack shit. He gets put right into the fire on RAW and hits a homerun.

I usually don't like when people give Randy Orton a hard time but Benjamin showed more ring presence and star potential in that one singles match then Orton has in any of his big matches.

I'd like to see Benjamin face Flair one-on-one at Backlash to keep his momenteum going. A match with Batista would be a mistake because it wouldn't be good and Benjamin needs to be able to show off his wrestling ability along with getting promo time.

I missed the first half of raw..

That doesn't matter of such an amazing main event. I mean wow...I've never truly appreciated, or got what Benjamin was all about until I saw the guys psyching him in up the back, and him stepping out and the taunts, the evil kurt angle smile, the moves(beautiful) and the win.

Count me in, I'm a Benjamina fan. Get him some better music, let him face Flair at Backlash and go strait for the IC Title because yeah..Benjamin's fantastic.

That and "Hulk" Kane was cool with the green mist in his face.

Yes, the Main Event redeemed a show that was okay, with a few high points in between.

While I loved the Main Event and was shocked that Shelton got a clean win over Trips on free tv, I gotta say that the crowd REALLY was on tonight. I really enjoyed them during the ME because they were totally behind Shelton.

I don't know whether that was because crowds tend to get behind anyone who would give HHH a run for his money in the ring, but you gotta respect a crowd that is actually in mat work. Most crowds would break into 'BO-RING' chants.

I think this match was more enjoyable for me because for at least one night, HHH allowed himself to be vulnerable in the ring. If he want's to be 'the new' Ric Flair, he has to do that more often.

Anyway, I liked this RAW overall. I would piss and moan about Lance getting the shaftarooni, but I've done that in another thread.

Then other things happened.

And I know I might be in the minority here (among the wieners), but I think this is the Jericho I like best. His character as a face is really no different than his heel character, except that as a face he lets the audience share in his cocky indignation. Muwhaaa! Maneefeek!

Tajiri, welcome to jobberhood.

And then there's SHELTON! SHELTON! SHELTON! SHELTON!

Welcome to stardom, Shelton. There had been some thoughts on wienerboard the last little while as to whether Benjamin would make a better heel or a face, and there were good points for both sides. I always thought he should be a face, and I'm glad they're pushing him this way. I don't think he even needs a gimmick. He's just a really likable guy the crowd will want to get behind. It's so natural. It's awesome.

And I echo the sentiment that I hope HHH's recent jobbing streak has nothing to do with Vince promising him the strap back anytime soon. Things are building nicely. I'm happy HHH is being a good boy and contributing to the creation of new stars, so I will lay off him, for now.

A pretty good show in general, capped by a main event that I really got geared up for. My tastes are for a bit faster paced match in general but the lead-up to the match and the buildup, the psychology, all great..

Long opening segment, but at least it went somewhere with a good climax and the booking of the Orton-Foley match. Flair was really wild on the mic and it really set the tone for the entire show.

"Lance" Cade hanging out with La Resistance, version 1.3...okay, whatever. The brand's actual Lance (Storm) makes his heel turn official by doing it on the flagship. Squashed right back to Heat by Rhyno. Thanks for coming, Lance.

Benoit and Michaels versus Flair and Batista. I enjoyed this. Good action from Flair, who has the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand by this point in the show. Johnny Blaze changes his moniker to "Johnny Nitro." I am actually liking this character even though he is kind of awkward on the mic in a Hurricane Helms kind of way. I haven't seen him in the ring but I actually wouldn't mind seeing the two of them as a high-flying tag team. But for the present, he provides some nice comedic moments as Bischoff's apprentice. At first I thought they were setting up a gimmick whereby he changes his name every 2-3 weeks, a prospect I found hysterical, but then JR implied during commentary that the "Nitro" name change was a suck-up move to Eric Bischoff. Which is fine but less amusing. Finish to the match was sort of predictable, though I'm not exactly sure that Nitro's call was accurate in that they did not pin the legal man.

Highlight Reel served a good purpose. Put a little more rhyme to the reasons behind Trish's turn, and gave Jericho a change to bring out his face bag of dirty names to call skanky female superstars. I'm hoping the ridiculously long "initial" name he called Trish was a way of finally (and comically, in a subtle way) putting "CLB" to bed.

Shame on me for really hoping for Tajiri to show something in his match against Kane. With Benjamin booked against HHH in the main, I was pulling for a huge double-upset, or at the very least to see both established vets put over the newcomers. But Tajiri was putting on his "scared to face Kane" face, so apparently the lesson is that the Japanese Buzzsaw is significantly less courageous than Shane McMahon. Instead we get a confusing count-out in a no DQ match followed by post-match chokeslams and a spear by the Edge. Bleh..

And the final match.. Great, great stuff. Gave them a lot of time, the crowd was way into it at the beginning with the tit-for-tat exchanges by Benjamin and HHH. The pinfall was actually a mark-out moment for me...and great to see the Cinicnatti crowd get hyped for Shelton's big win even after a long and at times slow-paced match that of a lot of mat work. Great, great ending that made me glad I watched. Will it go somewhere from here?

Same sentiments as everyone else. The main event was fantastic, with a strong story and believable finish.

My biggest complaint was Benoit & Michaels getting stripped of the tag belts due to Michaels pinning the illegal man (Flair) then Flair himself going for a quick rollup of Shawn. Worse than that was Ross not picking up on it.

Wow, it's like HHH and Jericho are going in total opposite directions. I really liked every segment tonight that involved Evolution. From the screw job tag match, the Flair promo, and the now almost legendary main event. I guess they were giving us hints with Austin and Foley cheering on Benjamin before the match, but no one and I mean NO ONE would have bet on Shelton to win that match...Mad props to HHH.

Jericho's face act is sooooooooooooo stale. It looks like its gonna be Trish and Xtian against Jericho at Backlash and I want Jericho to get his ass kicked. You think he could come up with something better than recycled Stephanie McMahon promos.

Tajiri and Coach were gold tonight...Not so sure about Edge v. Kane, but I'll roll with it...
