For years, when someone would ask me the question, “Who's underpushed?”, I answered immediately, “Chris Benoit.” And Eddie Guerrero's name wasn't far behind.

Now that Chris Benoit is the World Heavyweight Champion, and Eddie Guerrero the WWE Champion, obviously I can't say that anymore. But who, to you all, is most in need of a big push to the main event? It could be a guy who's on the cusp of the main-event, or someone who's stuck curtain-jerking on Velocity... anyone on the active WWE roster. Anyone have any ideas?

For me, I have to say Matt Hardy. They got him the great theme music and entrance, a great gimmick, and hey-- this kid's talented and even has charisma-- who knew? I caught Heat tonight, and I enjoyed seeing Version 1 playing the face against a heel Lance Storm. WWE flip-flopped their roles on this occasion, and I think it worked very well. Storm played the cheating bastard heel brilliantly, and Matt played the come-from-behind face convincingly. Could this experimental double-switch be permanent, and a sign of things to come?

It used to be I couldn't stand Matt Hardy when he was a member of the Hardy Boyz and won all the time. He didn't have it on the mic, and his gimmick wasn't interesting to me... and then there was that damn Lita, and let's not forget the psycho Jeff. Now that Matt's gone solo and gotten an interesting gimmick, I think he can conceivably be pushed very high in the promotion-- hell, even gradually to the main event.

As much as I don't like Randy Orton, I do like his Evolution teammate Batista. His mic skills leave something to be desired, but he's got “the look”, he's got talent, and he's menacing. I think Batista's being held back by sticking with Evolution, as hard as that may be to believe. I think that if Batista went solo (with Flair as a manager, not a tag-team partner), he could excel. Especially given Vinnie Mac's big man fetish, but hey... Batista is better than the majority of guys his size. And he's gonna get better, I believe.

Anyone agree with my picks, disagree, or have some of your own?

Stevie Richards can move like HBK used to and is good on the mic, but if he even gets to Al Snow levels of success I'll be shocked.

(not) SEAN O'HAIRE.

Underpushed would be Rob Conway. Nobody with his talent should be saddled with Slyvain Grenier as a tag team partner.

Another name that always comes up is Chris Jericho. Though he's not in the classic underpushed mode as some others mentioned.

Agree with you about Matt Hardy. I thought for sure he'd be getting the push of GOD behind him once he jumped to Raw, being a MacMahon creation, a good wrestler, and a good talker. The rumors say that Matt isn't very well "connected" backstage so he doesn't have people looking out for him in the booking meetings, plus his girlfriend Lita keeps pissing people off for whatever reasons. Again, only rumors, "grain of salt" and all that.

However, I disagree on Batista because 1) he doesn't really have any potential wrestling ability other than your standard "big muscular lug" offense of forearms, clotheslines, standard slams etc. and 2) he's already getting pushed in my view, more than he should be by being in Evolution and having Flair attached to him. This guy's going be pushed to the moon and beyond because of his look, plain and simple.

I've always liked Stevie Richards, and was always disappointed that the WWE never really used him to his full potential. He needs to be toadying around for someone like with Raven, just being a total goofball rather than your crazy eyed wildman.

I'd throw in Rhyno too, but who knows what they have in store for him with moving him to Raw. Since his return, he hasn't really done anything meaningful and they should really push him as unstoppable bad-ass or back-up muscle for someone like Orton or Christian if their "chicken-shit" heel personas keep going.

Oooh, hey... Christian and Rhyno already have Team RECK history, as you'll recall. That's not a bad idea, to have Rhyno covering Christian's back.

I can honestly say that my 'underpushing' complaints are minimal and the current state of WWE's main event scene is as awesome as it'll ever be. It's true that Benoit and Guerrero have always been one and two on everyone's underpushed list, and now we've got it.

Matt Hardy, Lance Storm, and Sean O'Haire are three men that deserve to have prominent midcard roles, but again, this is nothing compared to Benoit/Guerrero already being prominent midcarders knocking on the glass ceiling for so many years. None of those three men made the WMXX card, and while I was disappointed, I didn't care THAT much.

I guess my only two complaints about the actual main event scene is to depush Triple H, and push Jericho.

Exactly...being the big bad-ass that beats the face up so that the cowardly heel can live to fight another day is exactly what he needs.

Also, restart Mattitude and have Stevie Richards start worshipping at the Altar of Matt-ness. Shannon Moore was pretty good in the role, but Stevie MASTERED the toady suck-up. Then you have two pushes for the price of one!

I'd also like to add Hurricane. Playing second bannana to a fat guy in spandex is wasted on him, and they really should dump the Hurricane gimmick. It's just seems so...out-dated. Have him turn heel and team him with Matt in the tag division. They're friends and were similarly trained so they would most likely have some chemistry together in the ring.

I certainly hope it is a sign of things to come. I agree that Matt should be pushed, as he has a ton of potential as a singles star, but I've said before that I think Lance Storm is the most under-used talent in the company, and I've said before that Storm should play heel, because he absolutely rocks as a heel.

I believe that at one time the WWE had big plans for Storm. He was, after all, the first WCW worker to make a television appearance on WWE programming when the invasion angle began. Somewhere along the lines, they must have lost sight of what they saw in him back then, because they've really let him slip between the cracks in a shameful way. Storm is a good wrestler and a good talker. The match between him and Matt Hardy tonight on Heat was awesome. Storm choking Matt out on the ropes and screaming, "Who's boring now, Matt, who's boring now!!!" It was great. I'd like to see more of that from Lance, and I hope they let him do it.

With the next pay-per-view being close to Storm's hometown, they've got a good opportunity to take what he showed he can do on Heat tonight and start using him in a more meaningful way. I really hope we see Storm on RAW tomorrow night, and hopefully see him being groomed for a significant role at Backlash. At least, I hope so.

Matt has been under-used lately as well, but hopefully that will also change soon. He's lucky in so far as he has at least maintained a presence on RAW, which is more than you can say for Lance, which is why I think Lance is the most under-used/under-pushed.

It's amazing what the last few months have done for Christian's character. It just goes to show that the WWE can turn a wrestler's career around pretty effectively if they just let him focus on his strengths. Christian makes a fantastic smarmy little prick, so they let him be a smarmy little prick, and Whammo! he's more over than ever. Benoit is the strong silent type and a great wrestler, so they let him be the strong silent type and a great wrestler, and Whammo! he's the champ.

That's my theory. Just let a guy do what he's good at (assuming he's good at anything) and watch him blossom. I hope they do this with Matt, and I really hope they do this with Lance Storm. Only good things could come of it.

If you remember back about a year or so there were hefty rumours flying around about

a) Rhyno joining Matt Hardy

b) Matt being revealed as the guy who attacked Edge

All 3 guys are still on the same show so it's not entirely outwith the realms of possibility that at least one of Matt/Rhyno will be unveiled as the attacker leading to Edges first feud back.

Of course that more or less brings with it certain jobberdom for the heel so I'm not entirely sure it would qualify as any sort of major push, but it might be a nice start.

I'll agree with Lance Storm, he was one of my favourite WCW wrestlers and now he's just gone.

I'll throw in Booker T for good measure, although "underused" would be a better term for him than "underpushed"
Sean O'Haire also comes to mind, he'd make a fine midcard heel with just an ever so slight push.
I was actually hoping that Storm would be moved to SD! at the lottery, since he'd be a perfect heel on that show.

Anyone on RAW who isn't HHH.

Jericho is underused and is a much better heel than face man, he just is a heel by natural. He should be top level talent and is held back by the boys. He would be top heel if he went to Smackdown. Missed WWE chance that was.

Lancelot Storm is way underpushed too as is Mattitude the dude. I think even Test is underpushed as he looked good in the Testicles roll and they could have grown with that angle. I hope Christians push carrys on and he gets some good feuds as he makes a great creep and with Trish Stratuss in tow he looks even better. Val Venis needs a push as well as the rest as he is a good guy in the ring and on the mic. He needs a decent gimmick and a manager.

Overpushed? Torrie Wilson, HHH, Batista, A-Train and Rikishi and if rumours are right on Bradshaw.

London & Kidman have been getting some house show wins and have a win or two on Velocity ... I'm hoping this is a sign that they are gonna somewhat of a significant boost in the weak tag division ...

How is Batista "overpushed"? Yeah, he's a member of Evolution, but whenever an Evolution member takes a pin, it's invariably Batista. He's a 2-time tag title winner, but that was only because: 1st time) they wanted Evo to have all the belts, and 2nd time) RVD & Booker were being sent to SD. And, for what it's worth, Batista is at least the equal of Orton on the mic (personally, I'd say he's a bit better than Orton).

Underpushed: Jamie Knoble. Just by watching him wrestle, you can tell he's patterned himself after Benoit. Very good technical skills, great bumper, good grasp of psychology, and has good mic skills (he did a *great* backstage bit right before they brought in Nunzio as his cousin). He'll never be a ME'er, but he should at least be a cornerstone of the Cruiser division, if not a solid midcarder.

I'm waiting for Rico to get a real chance to catch fire. No, that's not a "flaming" pun ...

He's good. At least what he's been allowed to show has been impressive during that mini-streak that served as an excuse to prep Jackie for the Dueling Playboy Duo angle.

His move to SmackDown could give him an opportunity to standout and develop his gimmick against more technically oriented performers. Unless he's fed to Bradshaw weekly.

Well I don't know if they had great things in store for Storm when they brought him in. He was just the first WCW wrestler to appear because that show was close to his hometown. But I do believe they had plans for him win the whole boring chant and teaming with Goldust started. Then Goldust disappeared, I guess he got injured or something? Matt Hardy was in a similar position twice. First he was set to feud with Maven and he left for a while, then Mark Henry who got injured. So I'm hoping last night is the beginning of a Matt vs. Lance feud of some kind. The past few weeks on Heat and Raw i've never seen Val and Storm together anymore, so i'm hoping that's a sign that the whole dancing babyface is over and he's back to being a heel.

I think those guys are probably the main ones, if they were serious about having a really good cruiserweight division i'd also say Ultimo Dragon, maybe Kidman, but since neither guy can do anything entertainment wise i'm not suprised they aren't being used.

I wouldn't quite say Chris Jericho, because even when he's in the midcard, he always is in some sort of storyline that commands attention. Most of his PPV matches have some sort of video package preceding it, showing some importance to it. I agree with many who say he deserves a better position on the card, but it's not like he's going unnoticed, like the above 4 are.

If I had my vote, I'd say Lance Storm ... the guy's as good a worker as anybody on the roster. I wish he would be set up as a serious heel contender for the IC title (after Orton drops it to a face; preferably a face Matt Hardy) ...
