Been looking forward to this new comedy since the Super Bowl ad. Indeed, this one did deliver. Tom Hanks as a Southern professor with a Foghorn Leghorn accent worked big time. The plot was exceptional and the movie never failed to deliver laughs, even as it turned into a much DARKER comedy towards the end.
Good performances out of everyone involved. I was pleasantly surprised by J.K. Simmons, who delivered the big sleeper performance as Mr. Pancake.
Consensus among critics seems to be that The Ladykillers came out TOO over the top, but I found that to be part of the fun. Definitely have fun with the characters, but don't base too much in reality, and you'll come out of this one very satisfied. A definite thumbs up.
JK Simmons is the main reason I want to see this movie. I think he's one of the most underrated actors around, and I'd like to see him get bigger roles.
All I can say is, it's a decent ride, but I wouldn't go back. I can say it was the shortest movie I can remember sitting through (the 2 hours flew by), but MAN was it weak!
