Anyone heard anything about this? It sounds like its similar to Final Fantasy Tactics - which is one of my wife's favorite games of all time. I'm wondering if I should pick this up for $20...
Release date is 4/20/04.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
I hadn't heard anything, no, but it looks interesting. Reminds me more of X-Com than Final Fantasy Tactics, but the setting could be what's throwing me off. The "targetting system" looks a bit iffy (like you actually have to manually target shots ala something like Worms) and the closer you get to being right the more damage you do. That's something that I wouldn't personally go in for, but I don't know how your wife feels about such things.
It does look like a cross of X-com and FFT because of this quote:
"Really leave your mark on a deformable terrain that changes as you destroy it. Blast holes in the wall, make craters out of meadows and send boulders flying like toys. Make a mess! No one will be around to clean it up."
That's what I loved about X-Com (And Freedom Force)
EB is advertising it for $15 for the PS2. I WILL get this. If it's ANYTHING like FFT, I will love it. I've beaten FFT 7 times now, and it never gets boring (I keep Ramza 1 class all the way through the game each time. Next game will be Ninja)

If I'm not mistaken, Front Mission 4 will be released in the near future. It's a PS2 release, but it's Mech/tactics fun.
I'm just a little worried by the initial $20 price tag. While I think it's a great price, other games that have launched at this price have disappointed me in the past.
The WWE Crush Hour game was ok for $20 though, wasn't it?
If you're looking for something similar to FFT, then it's all about Disgaea, baby. Similar gameplay to FFT, except Disgaea's much deeper and has several extra tactical flourishes. It's also got a funny little storyline that doesn't involve killing Jesus!

Can't tell if Joystiq has stopping doing their new release post (which I'm cheating off of) or if it's just lost in the E3 coverage. Tune in next week! US - Toy Story 3: The Video Game Europe - Everybody's Tennis - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
