Now, I'm sure that dozens of names will be rumored, but The Creeping Fear doesn't really do anything for me. It sounds like a pulp comic or something. Rise of the Empire seemed too generic to me, and now The Creeping Fear seems a bit...cheesy, I guess.

While it does continue the trend of cheesy names for the prequels, I kind of like it. Supposedly it refers to some sort of being that wipes out the Jedi. I'm looking forward to a scary looking, secret thing that sneaks around and totally destroys the very best of the Jedi. Should be fun.

You know...for Star Wars.

As if 'The Phantom Menace' wasn't bad enough... *SIGH*

While AintItCool reported it, I have actually heard this from another source over a year ago that this name was used during production. Usually, Lucas doesn't use the actual name during production, so it may be just a rumor.

"The Phantom Menace" really isn't a bad title, and does fit within the context of the Original Trilogy, considering the Empire nor the Rebellion were in existence. The real menace was behind the scenes, pulling the strings.

Either way, I learned to live with "Attack of the Clones," and I can live with this if it ended up being the title, but...

Star Wars titles usually describe a specific action (or character) that occurs in the movie.

The Phantom Menace -
EVENT: When Palpatine came to power, the Empire was formed... it's just that nobody knew it yet.
CHARACTER: Could refer to either Palpatine or Anakin. Anakin's future was clouded, as were Palpatine's intentions.

Attack of the Clones -
EVENT: Obviously, the clones attacked at the end. Both physically and they also figuratively attacked the usefulness of the Jedi, as they needed help to survive.

A New Hope -
EVENT: After the formation of the Empire, the Rebellion give a new hope for the Galaxy
CHARACTER: Luke and Leia are the new hope for the Galaxy

The Empire Strikes Back -
EVENT: Just like the Clones Attacked, The Empire fights back against The Rebellion

Return of the Jedi -
EVENT: Luke becomes a Jedi, and becomes the first of many new Jedi
CHARACTER: Anakin returns after death with his Jedi pals Obi-Wan and Yoda.

So... The Creeping Fear? That's a present tense verb (implying a future action) describing an emotion. Hardly fits in with the rest of the five. The creeping fear would obviously be the the Republic (and Anakin) are becoming corrupt, but we go well beyond that fear when Anakin turns to the dark side and Palpatine becomes Emperor.

So, the title doesn't really seem to be as descriptive of the plot as the other five are. We'll see if it's true.

Did I hear right that Winona Ryder is taking over for Natalie Portman? If so, that would be Downgrade City.

I'd rather it be "The Creeping Terror". I'd pay eight bucks to see the Jedi being devoured by a huge carpet monster.

If you read the article on AICN, it says that "The Creeping Fear" actually refers to a specific person and an event. The person is some hooded Jedi (I guess a major character that gets introduced) AND the fact that Anakin goes evil, all the jedis die, etc...

I read their explanation and it didn't really make sense.

The Star Wars titles are very literal. Even The Phantom Menace, the most vague title in the series (Assuming "The Creeping Fear" isn't the real title), refers literally to a specific Phantom Menace in the movie.

The Clones, The Empire, The New Hope, The Jedi, and The Menace are all nouns that can be literally seen in all five finished films. They aren't emotions, they are physical things.

If they went with a title like "The Mask of Fear," for instance, I could see that, because The Mask will be physically seen in the movie.

"Creeping Fear" is an emotion and (by the rules of the previous five titles) cannot a person, that's too abstract even for Lucas.

If all the "Fear" does is just "Creep" during this movie, that isn't going to be very exciting, nor descriptive of the plot (knowing the spoilers given in the previous five movies). I would prefer "The Gathering Shadow"!

EDIT: I realise that "A New Hope" can be seen as describing an emotion, but looking at Webster's definition of "hope" (noun), it can in fact be defined to refer to a person.

b : someone or something on which hopes are centered c : something hoped for

How about 'Shock of the Sith'? Seriously (or not) The Creeping Fear ties-in with GL's often trumpeted inclinations toward the b-movie Saturday serials of yesteryear!

Prophetically it may also acknowledge what a relative disappointment the prequels have been!

I think "Rise Of The Sith" is the best avenue. It uses the "active" sentence structure of all the titles, and comes up with a combo not seen before. We've had "Empire", "Jedi", "Attack", "Return", and "Strikes", but never a "Rise". Simple, really.

For sentimental reasons, I was kinda hoping they'd use "Revenge of the Sith", playing off the original title of "Revenge of the Jedi" for Episode VI. "The Creeping Fear" sounds...generic, I guess.

The best, most descriptive, title I've heard so far is "The Rising Empire," but that's probably just an Internet nerd rumor.

I think it should be "Herbie Goes to Coruscant" or "Jackie Chan's The Creeping Fear."

EDIT: Or "George Lucas's The Passion of the Sith"

Seeing as how a Star Wars movie has never won the Oscar for best picture, and since this is likely the last hope to do so, perhaps they should follow in the footsteps of some of the movies that have won in the past and title episode three accordingly:

The Lord of the Sith: The Return of the Sith
A Beautiful Mind Trick
Darth Vader in Love
The Imperial Patient
Bravesith
Annakin Gump
Schindler's Sith
The Silence of the Force
Dances with Mynocks
Driving Miss Amidala
Rain Jedi
Out of Tattooine
Terms of the Force
X-Wings of Fire
Skywalker vs. Skywalker
One Flew Over Yoda's Hut
The Sithfather
The Sithfather Part II
The Dagobah Connection
Midnight Jedi
In the Heat of the Force
A Jedi for all Seasons
The Sound of Light Sabers
My Fair Padme
Lawrence of Tattooine
West Side Sith
The Bridge on the River Wookkie
Around the Death Star in 80 Days

You know... just to name a few.

To review:

Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Episode III is where everything goes to hell, so it's seemingly hard to come up with a title that doesn't say "Hey, everyone dies in this one!".

How about... Episode III: The Fall of the Republic

Hot damn... I give it two thumbs up. Walking in there thinking this might be the last film made it that much better, because every scene was tense. I was convinced that Riker was gonna get killed at the end, there.
