Poor Zags. That game wasn't pretty by any stretch. On the other hand, Manhattan/Wake Forest RULZ.

I lost my tourney champ, not to mention a Final Four team. In Fact, that half of the Final Four on my bracket was gone during the first three days of the tourney.

In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.

Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

Y'see, that's why I don't bet for any team which I have emotional attachment to. If I bet on the Zags, they would've lost in the first round with my luck.

That's why I did what I did: Bet with emotional attachment in the board pool (as well as a small money pool), while still taking a few bombers in a bigger money pool but not using emotional attachment. Thus, the Head Coach of the Providence College Friars that used to ride the little yellow bus to school couldn't completely screw me over.

Grimis, I am disappointed in you as a person and Maryland as a state. Carolina was supposed to be the only ACC team not eliminated by another ACC team this year.

Gah, Strawberry sucks. Who the hell gave him the ball?

At least Wake won.

Now who do I hate more, Roy Williams or Rick Barnes? I hope it's Roy.

I didn't participate in the Wienerboard pool, but I'm in deep trouble too. My final four was Gonzaga, St. Joseph's, Mississippi State, and Stanford. That's 2/4 gone, and Stanford was my pick to win it. So the pool that I'm actually in, which cost me money, is out to lunch as far as I'm concerned.

I had Gonzaga, Florida, Duke, and Maryland. Stick a fork in me...

In one of my pools, I had Maryland in the Elite 8, and I consider Syracuse Sucks to be a proper term for the school. However, seeing Strawberry's kid choke at the end brought a smile to my face.
As for the Williams or Barnes question: There never is an excuse NOT to hate Opie (rick barnes).

Mississippi State is now eliminated by Xavier. I officially have one Final Four predicted team left. Go St. Joe's!

Yikes, and now Mississippi St. is gone, too. Between UNC losing and now this, I think everyone in the W has lost that side of the bracket. I know I'm toast, at least. Should've known there was going to be SOMETHING dangerous about not having a lot of upsets in the first round.

At least the one thing I can remain confident in is that Texas, eventually, will choke on the big one. After all, they are Texas. It's only a matter of time. Of course, I did figure that last night would've been a big enough game for them to get out their choke shoes, but evidently not.

(For those of you counting at home, this will make 4 teams in the W pool that have lost their national champion.)

3 of the top 8 seeds gone. Who would have thought it possible this early in the tournament? I had an interesting conversation last night at dinner with my friends. Are the large schools getting hurt because they used to recruit guys that would play for a year or two before going to the pros and now those guys are making the jump from high school? Small and mid size schools have an advantage because they recruit guys that will play for 4 years and are not expected to be in the NBA. If one player develops into an NBA draft pick then the team gets a bonus. This year the Pac 10 and Big 10 only received 3 bids each while the Atlantic 10 had 4 and more mid-majors received 2 bids rather than the obligatory conference champion bid.

Oh, I had Mississippi St. playing Stanford so my brackets are shot.

Kentucky's now gone. That leaves Duke and St. Joe's as the lone #1's heading into the sweet 16. I'll let a certain ex-WWE employee sum it up:

"Damn!"

Man, that was a tough one to swallow. UAB is a tough tough team. They are the only team I have seen this year that just basically manhandled us down low. Being the eternally biased UK fan I also think UAB got all the calls tonight. Daniels had three questionable fouls in the first half and they were mugging us under the basket on the offensive end. But officiating certainly did not cost us that game- our sloppy play in the first half doomed us. Fitch had a wide open look at the end and just didn't get the bounce.

Man I was really hoping for at least an Elite Eight appearance this year because next year is going be LONG. We lose Fitch, Hawkins, Daniels, and Barbour. Hayes and Azubukie a championship not make. Here is to hoping our two superstar recruits Joe Crawford and that Rajo Rondo guy are as good as advertised.

Oh well time to root for Vandy and 'Bama! GO SEC! Also Nevada is fun to watch.

Oh hell ANYBODY BUT DUKE!

WIENER OF THE DAY! July 6, 2002!

Wienerville Survivor League Co-Champion
If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Well as an biased UAB fan I have to admit that you're right, UAB was getting the calls from the referee, I don't remember all of Daniels fouls but on the fourth one that put him on the bench I don't think Daniels even touched the guy. UAB on the other hand was always reaching and slapping at the ball and could've easily gotten a lot more fouls. Might not have made a difference as far as UAB's players fouling out since they have a deep roster, but it could made a difference if Kentucky got just two more free throws.

My take on the Kentucky game: Up 6 last 5 minutes, win the game. Even if the refs screwed them in the first half, the game was in their back pocket and they turn the ball over 3 straight possessions late. A 5 second call plus a turnover in the back court is inexcusable in the last 2 minutes of a Tourney game.

I've still got three of my Final Four teams left, but I think that's IT. The rest of my undercard got SMOKED.

And watching what little I did of UAB, they're a fun team to watch... if you're not against them. 40 Minutes of Hell Redux.

My only final four team out is Gonzaga, but I have already maxed the number of points out of the Midwest, with my Providence vs Gonzaga region final and all...

I'm more pissed that Maryland couldn't hit free throws in the last five minutes, or else we would've had a clear shot at San Antonio.
