The NAACP’s annual "Image Awards," seen last week on Fox, saved the appearance of actor/pro wrestler The Rock, for the end.
Perhaps, for the sake of imagery, the producer should’ve parlayed The Rock’s walk-on with a clip of him smacking a woman with a folding chair — one of the more printable images he produces when entertaining his WWE audiences.
And perhaps the NAACP was unaware that The Rock’s great enabler, WWE boss Vince McMahon, has long entertained his largely young audiences through negative black stereotypes, including pimps and prostitutes.
The argument of "Vince isn't racist, he stereotypes everyone!" isn't exactly a classic rejoinder.
I think what we wrestling fans hate the most about Phil Mushnick is that most of the time, he's absolutely right. His problem is he just delivers his comments in such an obnoxious way that he's hard to respect.
How are prositutes a negative black stereotype? Godfather, yes, awful stereotype, I'm sure all black people across the world are annoyed, blah, blah, blah. But prostitutes?
Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace. [He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.] Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa! [Alexa gives him a withering glare.] Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me. Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag! Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you. [Keith walks off] Alexa: Ewww!
Someone should alert Muchnick to the fact that Rock's only been on WWE TV a few times in the past couple of years.
And if his argument is that Vince is a racist bastard then shouldn't it be even more of a reason for The Rock to be at the Image Awards seeing as he made it to the highest level possible in a company run by a racist?
As far as the Godfather goes - when did Vince McMahon and WWE become responsible for parenting children? I hate guys like Muchnick, who have no concept of personal responsibility.
I problem with Muschnick (this goes with the PTC as well I guess) is that they can actually do some good and I do believe that the WWE and TV as a whole needs some guidelines to keep them in check... The problem is when they exaggerate to make a point therefore loses any credibility for any credible points they do make.
The problem with news these days is that there very little journalists and everyones trying to be a "personality" more then being a reporter. A guy like Muschnick uses the WWE to get himself over. He doesn't care about credibility or fairness in reporting, he never cared about that. All he cares is seeing his own name over.
smark/net attack wienerville advisory stays at BLUE alert - Guarded (With Benoit & Eddie being World & WWE champions you'd expect the alert to be Green but couldn't do it due to Trish heel turn & brands re-draft)- 3/16
Honors for Smartest thing ever written, 5th Horseman "When Victoria, Trish, Molly, and Lilian were in the ring.. I commented to my friends that all of the 4 ladies in the ring were hotter than the all 4 that are fighting over who is the hottest in the WWE"
I know a lot of people stopped paying attention to Mushnick and his rants A LONG time ago when it was clear he had a grudge.
By the way, of all the Cornette rants they could've included on the Monday Night War DVD, I was hoping to see the one where he tore Mushnick a new a-hole myself.
One of the most annoying things about Mushnick is his odd use of pronouns. He never says, "I noticed," or "I was outraged." It's always, "We noticed," or "We were outraged."
But yea, it's hard to really argue with him, it's just that he really is just a pompous bastard.
Sometimes it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps in the morning.
