I'm surprised nobody has posted anything about the released brackets yet, so I'll get it going...

First of all, we all know that Gonzaga got hosed. They were ranked 6th in the country and yet they got a 6 seed?? So what the selection committee is saying is that there are atleast 20 teams better than Gonzaga? No way. And they are in the West that has SEVEN conference champions. And they are playing in New Mexico, while Pepperdine, who finished second behind Gonzaga, gets to play closer to home in Sacramento. Also I agree with a lot of the "experts" that Arizona is looking pretty good, which Gonzaga will have to face in the second round. And Missouri as a TWELVE SEED!?? That is a hard bracket.

Looks like the kissing of Duke's ass continues. Kansas and Maryland should've gotten a better draw but once again Duke gets the easiest bracket. Yeah Alabama is good, but the three seed is Pittsburgh who might not even have their point guard. And it just looks weaker at every seed. Also they are on the opposite side of both Kansas and Maryland so wouldn't have to play them until the finals.

I watch the SEC more than anything so it's what i know best and I thought the seeding was not good. Alabama deserves the two that they got. But what about the rest...

Miss St. - 10 - 6 in the conference, 3 - 0 in tournament, hardly ranked most of the season

Georgia - 10 - 6 in the conference, 0 - 1 in the tournament, ranked in the 20s most of the season, occasionally in the high teens

Kentucky - 10 - 6 in the conference, 0 - 1 in the tournament, ranked in the top 10 most of the season, occassionally dropped out of the top 10

Florida - 10 - 6 in the conference, 1 - 1 in the tournament, ranked in the top 10 (and as high as 2) for the entire season until last week

If you ask me in order these teams should be Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, then Miss St. but they got seeded the exact opposite, Miss St. and Georgia got the three seeds, while Kentucky got a four and Florida got a 5. Should Miss St. really get a three seed just for winning their conference tournament, even though they played one of the easiest non conference schedules in the nation and played in a weaker SEC division than the other three? I know Georgia, Florida, Kentucky struggled towards the end of the season and in the tournament but for the entire season they were much better than Mississippi State. And I wouldn't be as upset about Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky seeds if it weren't for Miss State being so high.

As for teams that should've made it and didn't, I'd say Bowling Green and Butler should be there, but it's hard to pick two teams whose place they could take, I guess if it were up to me i'd put them in Boston College and Utah's places.

All and all I think it's the worst job of seeding I've seen since I started paying close attention to college basketball.

Edit: Oh and one more thing, Oklahoma should have been a 1 seed

Just got to work and haven't had time to do more than glance at the brackets so far. I have to say that I hate this new idea of moving sites of the first two round games so as to let the higher seeds play closer to home - I mean Pitt has a home game - can't believe that BC went from being a bubble team to being a #5 seed - Duke could get jumped by USC - Marquette is a lot better than their seeding but probably won't get past Maryland - I like Cincinnati to come out of the west but would not be at all surprised to Gonzaga there after the slap in the face they got from the committee

of course all these opinions will probably change by the time I fill out my brackets during my weekly sales conference call this afternoon

and over in the NIT - Go Princeton Beat Pitino !

Nice analysis Quezzy. I posted mine in the other thread around these parts. Shouldn't have put all spool in one thread eh?

Let the analysis.... commence!

First thing: Gonzaga. Yes, Quezzy, you were right beyond belief - I remember bringing up in another thread that the 'Zags weren't quite good enough to get to the Final Four, but they deserved at least a 4 seed, and that would still be a little short of what they really should get. However, they do beat Arizona in the 2nd round, before falling to Oklahoma, the team from the West in the Final Four. You heard it here first.

Cincy is by far the weakest #1 seed out of them all; I'm not even sure if they get to the Sweet 16, much less the Final Four. It's my belief that the selection committee just decided to lump all the equal teams together in the West to see what happened. It won't be as good of an idea as it sounds.

I believe that if Alabama really deserved a 2 seed, then they won't last long - that whole 9-7 record away from home kind of puts a damper on anything they can do. However, it's really kind of irrelevant, since I don't see anyone except for maybe Oklahoma St. challenging them on their side of the bracket; Central Conn. State is a better team than you think - you don't go 27-4 and not be any good. 'Course, Butler went 25-5, and it's NIT for them. You figure it out.

Duke has no problem making it in; once again, Quezzy said it first - South is the weak one this year. Hey, they could've sent Miami and Ohio State over there - little closer to the south than Indiana and USC, respectively.

I don't like Marquette as a 5 seed, simply because that's the cursed high seed; if they win first round, they beat Kentucky. Once again, how does the #10 (AP) team get a 5 seed? Of course, this also depends on if Kentucky feels like playing in the first round, which seems to be their problem from where I sit. However, this also might be due to my relative apathy for the SEC this year; only watched about 1/2 the SEC games I normally do. Marquette/Maryland is a little harder to predict, though. Texas Tech and the first-round exit curse follows Bob Knight; in other words, they lose to Southern Illinois. Oddly enough, I like N.C. State/Maryland again, this time with rights to the Final Four. I don't beieve that UConn should've gotten a 2 seed, someone else could've gotten it. Maybe Arizona.

The Midwest strikes me as fairly weak, too. You have Kansas, and then who? Oregon has been a surprise all year, but, once again, they're not 2 seed good. Neither is Pepperdine 10 seed bad, nor Wake Forest 7 seed good. Remember Wake/Butler last year? It'll happen again, only replace Butler with Pepperdine. Florida goes down as a victim of the 5/12 curse; a shame, too, since they'd be the only challenge to Kansas. I see Kansas/Mississippi State in the Elite Eight, which Kansas wins. Miss. State has been underrated most of the season, in my opinion.

Not that I get longwinded or anything, but that's all I'll do for now. This wasn't too in-depth, was it? ;)

Well, I hope everyone on the Gonzaga bandwagon is happy. I saw them here in November when they came and played our Illini, and I didn't think they were all that good. Of course, they progressed through the season and somehow ended up at #6 in the nation. Apparently the seeders knew better than the pollsters, because the Cowboys of Wyoming just upset the Zags. I can't wait to see what Dickie V says about this. Maybe it was just an isolated incident, a "On any given day..." thing, but I don't think so. Go Illini! Beat the Aztecs!

Just because Gonzaga lost today doesn't mean they weren't deserving of a better seed. Miami was a 5, Marquette was a 5, USC a 4, and they all lost, does that mean they didn't deserve to be seeded where they were? Of course not. Alabama almost lost to Florida Atlantic. Kansas almost lost to Holy Cross, for Christ's sake. Does that mean they aren't a worthy #1?

I would've posted this in another thread but it's closed. Either way Ron continues to provide material. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?
