This really sucks. The whole core of the championship team is dismantling right in front of us. Lynch is gone, Sapp will be gone, they've been trying to get rid of Brad Johnson, and Alstott might be next on the chopping block.

I'm willing to give Gruden a chance and see what the team can do next year. But there is something to be said about chemistry. If he ends up bringing in guys like Darrel Russell and David Boston, then Lynch and Sapp can consider themselves lucky not to be here.

"Seriously, guys, I know how you feel. You know what this promo needs? More me. Mememememememememe. I am. I am. Iam. I am whatever you say I am. If I wasn’t, then why would you say I am. In the news, the papers, every day I am. I am. I’m. Holy crap, I can talk for as long as I want, can’t I? They just don’t have the heart to cut me off. Let’s see. What else can I talk about? Oh! You want to know what I did this weekend? Stephanie and I were in Boston shopping for tea kettles and." - Excalibur05

Mr Lynch, there is a team in New York that has a fondness for white defensive backs.... Please Call Tommy C!

Is Sapp really on his way? The last I read I got the impression that his agent was anxiously trying to drum up a bidding war so Sapp could take something to the Bucs that they would have to improve upon.

Much like they did to Lynch, Gruden and Bruce Allen (the new GM) haven't even offered Sapp a contract. Word going around is that Sapp's agent came out with his announcement the other day because no other teams were calling him about Warren.

Poor Warren. I guess you can be an asshole when you're good, but once you lose a step (or 12), you get dropped. I've always thought him to be a loudmouth, and the last two seasons he's been pretty overrated. Now maybe that's because of double teams, but this season, in the games I saw him in, he was being single teamed, and wasn't getting to QBs or RBs at all. Of course, his 16 (?) sack season was an amazing one. If only he had some staying power.

This could also be to show them, especially Sapp, what their market value is and get them back at a reduced price and a little humbled in the process. Lynch is still good, but IMO Sapp has lost a step.

I'm kind of hoping that the Panthers make a move here. We've only signed two new players and let a whole bunch of others walk. This is not what you do with a team that took you to the Super Bowl, especially when you have cap room. You don't tear it apart, you keep it together, and upgrade your friggin' weak spots!

Unfortunately the Rams also need a defensive back. I hope they stay away from him, so the Giants can sign him.

Didn't the "whole core of the championship team" have a losing record and miss the playoffs last year??

I think injuries had something to do with that, not that I'm looking for excuses.

If I remember correctly the team with the most injury problems and therefore the team with the most players who started at least one game was....

The New England Patriots

So the injury argument doesn't do it for me.

The Patriots were also the team that won the Superbowl in '02, didn't make the playoffs with their core of players in '03, then won the Superbowl with that same core of players in '04. It looks like the Bucs might not get their chance...Although if Lynch is the only player they lose, it does bear a striking resemblance to the Pats giving the shove to Lawyer Milloy last year...

You're not really making much sense. Brady has two SB's, Johnson has one. Brady has youth on his side, and a lot of hype. (Much of it deserved.) Both have similar games though. They throw a lot of high percentage passes and let the backs and receivers do the work. Neither one of them is particulary mobile, though Brady gets the edge there, mostly because of youth. Johnson HAD the bigger arm, and he may still, but Gruden's offense doesn't throw down the field much.

And hey, Brad Johnson has never had to depend on his kicker for a Super Bowl win.
