Some interesting tidbits, some more surprising than others.
Not surprising: Final Fantasy XI and XII will remain PS2 exclusives. Anyone who didn't see that coming was kidding themselves.
Very surprising: One of the leading candidates for a GBA port... is FINAL FANTASY TACTICS! If this comes to America, damned if I won't bite the bullet and buy a Game Boy Advance. Tactics was addictive in ways that the "normal" FF games couldn't touch, and it's a natural for the portable format (simple graphics, no flashy FMVs, turn-based gameplay).
It was a PS1 Greatest Hits title, but it was low enough on Sony's priority list that it was out of print for several years before that. This could indeed be a good omen for those wanting FFx/Chrono ports on the GBA, even if it's still hard for me to believe that Sony would let the rights go cheaply...

I thought from here on out all future FF games would be online? Guess the runors were false.
And yes, Tactics does rule. I started replaying it about a month ago. Finally got Cloud and I'm on level six of the Deep Dungeon. Just the concept of an RPG where things like terrain factor rules.
One of these days I'll come up with a sig that does not suck.
No, from the get go, FFXII was not intended to be an online game.
The latest I hear from my contacts is to be on the lookout for an FF7 remake for the GC entitled "Final Fantasy Legends". Personally, I could give two shits. Where's GBA Chrono Trigger???

Man, when I buy a title called "Final Fantasy Legends" I want a four character (sometimes five with the NPC) party drawn of shitty choices and gameplay consisting of wierd plots and subplots.
That's what made those games so endearing. I don't want FF7. I HAVE FF7.

These mini Reeses cup things are addictive...
You may have FF7. You may also have Resident Evil. But the GC remakes will be so cool, you won't have the willpower to pass them up. Well, I'll have the willpower to pass up RE, but I hate RE, soo....
Thank goodness that FFXII won't be a MMORPG. I haven't played one yet, but I'm not inspired from some of the things I've heard.
Maybe FFXI will surprise me. I'll probably still buy it anyway, since I've bought the last two. Anyone else play Final Fantasy IX as much as I did? I was obsessed with that game-- and then I got Final Fantasy X, and that pretty much became my life.
Actually, I haven't played any FFs past 7. I have FF8 (having picked it up for cheap from Blockbastard), but I haven't had the time or desire to give it a try yet. I did pick up Chrono Cross, and it was decent if not earthshaking; ditto for Threads of Fate, which was too easy. I've had Xenogears for a year or more, and haven't started it (as I'm told that it takes megahours to finish, even with a walkthrough).
I've played more RPGs that aren't Squaresoft titles since then, of course... Thousand Arms left me a bit flat, Grandia was promising but I couldn't get into it and sat it aside for a while. (The ALL CAPS TEXT DIDN'T HELP.) Star Ocean was pretty good but I ran out of steam halfway through, and I'd probably want to start over rather than try to remember where I was at!
The first Wild Arms and Legend of Legaia were clearly "as close to FFx as possible without being blatant plagarism", and both were pretty good, though I'd kill for a "turn off the spell FMVs" option in LoL. Suikoden was far too easy and drove me up a wall. I'm going to get around to picking up Lunar 2 sooner or later, when I can find it for cheap -- ditto for Skies of Arcadia and Tales of Lodoss War on the DC. And someday I'll give Panzer Dragoon Saga another shot...

That's something I'd kill for in any of the later FF games too.
The first two or three times you summon Shiva or a Chocobo, it's cute. After the next thousand, it can get pretty fricking annoying to wait 20 minutes to do damage.
Not sure where this would go, so I figure it would fit perfectly where nothing does : Random. My problem is with the Yahoo Messenger program. It's an interesting thing, really.
