If you were to start watching every single episode of The Price Is Right in order, back to back, starting on the stroke of midnight on New Years Day, you'd finish up sometime in the second week of September.

"The only reason my wife and I got married in the first place was because it was something gays couldn't do. Our wedding was conceived entirely as a giant homosexual taunt. But now the vows I made to my wife seem as shallow and empty as the vows I made to my three previous wives."

Are they just counting the Bob Barker hosted (since 1972) version of the show? There was a 1956-1965 version of the show that was on for about 2200 episodes and hosted by Bill Cullen. It's occasionally on GSN very very late night, and is sort of similar to the current version, albeit the contestants are a bit calmer. Check it out if you can (but I haven't seen it on GSN in months)and see the evolution of the show. It's also fun to see a bunch of stodgy white people in suits bid on things.

Ahh, Diane Parkinson. Thanks to you, I made it through my adolescence a well adjusted man Seriously, she was smokin' hot when I was 10.

Since this is a TPIR thread, I must say that my favorite game is still Plinko.

I used to watch TPIR when I was watching my cousins when I was younger. We'd always have a blast bidding on stuff. As far as my favorite games plink is good, but I like the one where you change the number on the car price and then ask "gentlemen do I have X numbers right?"

Wiggum: There's more bootleg tapes in here then..uh..Lou?
Lou: A Chinese Wal-Mart?
Wiggum: I guess that'll have to do. But whoever owns these tapes is in more hot water than..
Lou: A Japanese tea bag?
Wiggum: Why don't you lay off the Asians Lou

My favorite games on TPIR include:

Plinko
The one with the yodeling mountain climber
The putting contest (mostly because Bob just had to try a putt each and every time)
Three Strikes (with the balls in the pouch that they had to pick out and place in the price of a car

Damn you WWE for making me change my sig. I'm sure you have good enough reasons to get rid of Shannon, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Let me thus be the first to say: BRING BACK DAFFNEY!

The Washington State Lottery has a "the Price is Right" scratch ticket game, and I'll be goddamned if the jingle on the commercials (sung to the theme song, of course) is not the most catchy thing on the radio right now.

I
could win 50 gra-a-nd

wearing my good luck shirt and joggingshorts
I think they're still in the dryer

To identify:

Cliff Hanger (not to be confused with either the Stallone movie or the Taito laserdisc/Lupin III game)

Hole in One (or Two)

I'm all for Switcheroo, myself.

As we get to 6,000 shows, a thread would pop up on alt.tv.game-shows every now and then about Bob's replacement, when Bob steps down/dies, and if there is a replacement.

I think, currently, the lead is Todd Newton.

alt.tv.game-shows!? Boy does that address give me the creeps! While it was a nice place for discussion many, many, moons ago, there are now two decent places to chat about TPIR. Better than reading about what recently deceased celebrity crapped their pants! Even one of the announcers occasionally posts at the former link.

Re:GSN
While I haven't had GSN since the middle of last year, GSN hasn't aired ANY incarnation of the Price is Right (whether Cullen or Barker) since 2000. The rights to run them ran out.

A factoid: the emcess throughout PIR history:

  • Bill Cullen

  • Bob Barker

  • Dennis James

  • Tom Kennedy

  • Doug Davidson

  • Rolf Benirschke (oops, wrong show)

Oh yeah, here's one more cool Price is Right link.

Little known fact: bob Barker is Dick Clark in a different skin. He will host that show FOREVER and he will NEVER die.

At least not until I can get on the show with my "My First Words Were 'Bob Barker'" t-shirt.
