The 49ers slapped the franchise tag on LB Julian Peterson, thus leaving T.O.'s future with the team in further doubt.

I think T.O. is in for a rude awakening on the free agent market. No sane team is going to give a receiver (unless its Rice in his prime, and even that's questionable) a $20 million signing bonus during the salary cap era. Particularly this year when there are 5 impact wide receivers in the draft.

TO will be a Raven....just watch.

Liberals sometimes claim to believe in personal freedom, but their concept of liberty seems limited to matters related to sex....Yet outside the sexual realm, liberals are downright illiberal. They want to control every aspect of our lives: what we eat, what we smoke, what we drive, how we defend our homes and families, how much of our own money we're allowed to keep.

I don't want you to be the guy in the PG-13 movie everyone's *really* hoping makes it happen. I want you to be like the guy in the rated R movie, you know, the guy you're not sure whether or not you like yet. You're not sure where he's coming from. Okay? You're a bad man. You're a bad man. You're a bad man, bad man.

Well, there's something else as well...

There's a history of high profile free agent/traded wide recievers not producing in their new environment. I'm thinking guys like Alvin Harper, Keyshawn Johnson, Joey Galloway, Derrick Alexander, Peerless Price (so far), Curtis Conway, Az Hakim (albeit that was because of injury), Anthony Miller, Jake Reed, Yancey Thigpen and Rob Moore.

Exceptions to the rule: Jerry Rice, David Boston and Irving Fryar.

That's the only reason I have hope. Ray Lewis wants him in Baltimore, so it sounds like Ray will have no problem keeping him in line...

The other party's nomination battle is still playing out. The candidates are an interesting group, with diverse opinions. For tax cuts, and against them. For NAFTA, and against NAFTA. For the Patriot Act, and against the Patriot Act. In favor of liberating Iraq, and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts.

This is completely off topic, but last night on the NFL Network, they showed an NFL Films interview with T.O. Typical NFL Films stuff, except T.O brought in a guy to create a sculpture of him while the interview was going on. It's a very interesting visual-Steve Sabol sitting there, asking the usual fluff questions, Owens standing in front of him shirtless, while this sculptor is chipping away on his statue in the foreground.

Quite possibly the best interview EVER.

There's also a history of those guys going to teams that didn't make them the focus of the offense or didn't have the complimentary receivers that their previous teams did.

Harper: No Irvin on the other side

Keyshawn: Rush based offense with suspect QB

Galloway: Got hurt

Alexander: Where the hell did he wind up anyway? (sorry, drawing a blank)

Price: No more Eric Moulds and Doug Johnson at QB most of the year

Conway: Became #2 WR on a rush based team

Hakim: Went from the Greatest Show on Turf to the Lions...no mystery there

Miller: Another blank

Reed: No more Carter, no more Moss, no more Cunningham/Brad Johnson

Thigpen: Only really put up big #s in Pittsburgh once or twice...that was the exception, not the rule

Moore: Moved to Arizona and caught for 1500 yards...that's a drop?

Thigpen ended up with the Titans ... He eventually hung it up because he kept getting injured.

Well, if Owens goes to Baltimore or Philly, are they going to have the complementary receivers on the other side? The top three wides for these two teams are garbage.

If Owens goes to Baltimore, his production will drop, no doubt. You don't go from catching passes from Jeff Garcia with Tai Streets opposite to catching balls from Anthony Wright playing beside Marcus Robinson without a dip in your stats. With Philly, though, I think he could be in good shape. Pinkston and Thrash are decent WRs. Neither is a #1 guy, but together they're a solid 2-3.

If Owens does go elsewhere, it'll have to be via trade because his agent screwed up.

That is absolutely ridiculous. I could see somebody forgetting to file for Northcutt (especially if he has one of those agents like Tom Condon who has a billion clients), but to forget to file the papers for Terrell freaking Owens?! That agent should be fired AND he should have to pay Owens back for whatever his bill was for the past year.

-Jag

Unless this is somehow the fault of Owens and Northcutt, but that doesn't make much sense. What the hell do you have an agent for, if not to take care of this stuff?

They don't have to if they don't want to. They can give him a lowball offer, he can hold-out, and then they can put him on the ineligible list and knock him off for the season. Wouldn't really hurt the 49ers, because they probably built plans around him not being on the team. Gee, this couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

No, they don't have to offer him anything. He's still got 3 years on his non-voided contract, and will count against the cap. He gets paid, just like Me-shawn was getting paid by the Buccaneers.

Given his comments, he's got to be gone (IMHO).

Listening to the Dan Patrick show today, they had Chris Mortenson on, and he said that he found out about it after a team "on the East Coast, between Philadelphia and Baltimore" told him about it after they realized what was going on. They were trying to figure out if they wanted to tender him an offer. There is a market for him, but I know a lot of teams won't take him now (Eagles were slim in the first place, and I doubt Reid will give up a 1st rounder for T.O. now, anyways).

I think you can look for TO to be traded after the draft ala Drew Bledsoe a couple years back. A team like the Eagles or Baltimore, who feel they are right on the cusp, would still get all their picks this year in a very deep draft and then trade next years #1 for TO to push them over the top.
