Kerry with a 12-point lead?! I know it's a very small sampling, but do you think with news like this and the amount of momentum he has rolling that John Kerry is practicing taking the swearing in at the inauguration in his mirror every morning?

I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that Kerry and Edwards have been out there visibly running, and Bush has not.

I still think this will be a slam dunk, but not the sure bet for the GOP it once was.

Liberals sometimes claim to believe in personal freedom, but their concept of liberty seems limited to matters related to sex....Yet outside the sexual realm, liberals are downright illiberal. They want to control every aspect of our lives: what we eat, what we smoke, what we drive, how we defend our homes and families, how much of our own money we're allowed to keep.

I wouldn't put any faith into this poll, seeing as it has such a small sampling size, and Bush essentially started his campaigne (sp?) a couple days ago.

"Was that some kinda setup?!" No Mr. Cole, it was a remarkable set of coincidences.

I think Dubya has to get out there. Too bad a Buchanan or McCain didn't run, just so Dubya'd be out there.

I think once the Dem's anoint their winner (after super Tuesday, I figure) and it's Dubya Vs John F'n, then we'll really see how it is. Mr VVAW against Mr. National Guard, Mr. "I haven't really started any serious legislation in years" against Mr. "I am the President in office"

I am seeing a Bush 1 vibe for Dubya, but John F'n's no Godfather. I think he'll make the comeback HW couldn't make aginst The Godfather.

Only half of those polled are likely voters, and I do believe that those who don't vote are more likely to support the Dems.

Still, the fact that it's even this close after pundits were predicting a walkoff victory for Dubya six months ago is not a good sign for the Republicans.

Wait…if it’s MLK Jr. Day AND Pat Patterson’s Birthday…who gets the token win here?-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking on a match between Mark Henry and Rico

MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis?
CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt.
MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…?
CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department.
MH: I know! I’ve got it!
CJ: Got what?
MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!!
CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”?
MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt.
CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say.
MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.

You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT!

I think kerry'll win. He's going to put in the most effort, and I think that the poeple who bush persuaded at the lst minute don't trust him anymore. Or maybe once again the candidate with the least votes wins.

Folks, polls now man nothing. In 1998 Dukakis was at 60% in the polls after the convention and I believe he lost rather badly. Polls now are nothing but mental masturbation.

I think your last sentence is a damn good point. The popular vote means nothing, if it did we'd have Al Gore in the Oval Office right now. Alot of it now is on the Electoral College Votes and how that plays out.

Even though I'm begging for the sake of the world, and my personal sanity to allow myself to have confidence in my American neighbors to PLEASE vote George Bush out. I'm not comfortable with only a 55-45 lead. The Dems need to get to at least 60 for me to get more confident... But the team in Blue are certainly just making a race out of it and now are actually leading, so that has to be a surprise. Especially to the Right Wing media blowhards (okay some neutral media types as well) who laughed at the potential Democrats candidates just a few months ago and said "What a throw away year, I guess they are giving up and just setting up for 2008".

Did the Dem number go up because of the primary, well of course simply because a few months ago we had no freakin idea who these people were. Now that you could put a face and a name next to a potential president which most couldn't do in November. So is the number up because of it? Yeah. Is this number unrealistic? Nope not at all. This number certainly more substantial then the very low Democrats for president of 5 months ago because no one knew who these guys were now you get a bit of an idea and so as of now the majority of polled people are liking it. Seeing how close Edwards and Kerry are vs. Bush that 55% seems alot of anti-Bush then pro someone... And Bush talks about the Democrats getting all the attention, Umm he is the freakin President. Whenever he talks the media is there all he has to do is book himself to do more Meet the Press (Please George, do that. Please!)

UNITED WE STAND

Anyone else notice that the people that seem to act superior in American politics are those that don't even live in the fucking country?

It is the soldier not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press

It is the soldier not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech

It is the soldier not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate

It is the soldier not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial

It is the soldier, who saluted the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag

You wanna know why? Canadians (and Brits and Australians) are immersed in American culture and news and politics daily. Our newspapers cover what's happening in America as much, if not more, than our own countries. Our top TV shows and movies are the same American shows and movies that you watch. On 9/11 we turned on CNN, not the local news.

However, because we are not American, we can observe and analyze American culture and news and politics without the emotion and nationalism that Americans have to have regarding their country. What you perceive as "acting superior" is just analytical detachment ... we form our opinions about Republicans and Democrats and issues in American politics entirely through the media, without being surrounded by actual Republicans and Democrats in our daily lives. We form opinions about the President without the baggage of having to care about the Office of the President and Commander-in-Chief and what have you.

So take what non-Americans in this forum say with a grain of salt, sure. But living in the shadow of the empire does give us a different perspective of what's happening.

(The same theory applies to why Canadian comedians are so successful in America -- complete familiarity with America without being American allows for a skewed, funny perspective from the American point of view.)

(Not directed at you specifically, since you haven't been on my radar, but there are more than a few non-US people here for whom this is applicable - my own damn opinion)

Ha ... alright, in rereading my post I didn't put it exactly right. When I said that non-Americans can view American politics without the emotion and nationalism, I didn't mean without any emotion or nationalism. Lots of people round my way have gotten very opinionated and passionate about it since November 2000, and a lot of that has to do with an undercurrent of anti-Americanism. For eg: At a Cracker concert last week the singer said that he heard that Alberta was the Texas of Canada ... and looked surprised when that was greeted with a loud chorus of boos. Later he said he was talking about country music, and not the crypto-fascist Christian Texas of George Bush. (This was greeted with a loud chorus of cheers.) There is emotion and nationalism there, but not the emotion and nationalism that comes from an American worldview.

I suppose my main point was that when American politics is featured on the front pages of newspapers worldwide, don't be surprised when people from around the world get drawn into your debates. Dunno why I just didn't say that.

Incidentally, anytbody think that this Village Voice story will get any play?

If it gets wide play, it spells trouble.....

Of course, the whole thing is sickening.

The other party's nomination battle is still playing out. The candidates are an interesting group, with diverse opinions. For tax cuts, and against them. For NAFTA, and against NAFTA. For the Patriot Act, and against the Patriot Act. In favor of liberating Iraq, and opposed to it. And that's just one senator from Massachusetts.

Grimis-
I don't know what's more amazing; the contents of the story itself, or the fact that it appeared in the Village Voice!!

If this is indeed true, it's just sickening...

"w" is responding to all this by personelly entering the fray and answering back. If I were him, I think he would be better off appearing above the fray and letting his underlings do the dirty work while he looks presidential and proposes.

How exactly should it have been covered? From what I can see the whole point of the story is explaining why the settlement offer was rejected.
