All this talk of cartoons and no mention of 'Pirates of Darkwater', one of the best cartoons of all time. It was the only American cartoon at the time that actually had an ongoing story (except maybe the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon from several years earlier) and it was a good story to boot, Ren and his compatriats seeking the 7 Treasures of Ruhl to combat the Darkwater that was taking over the oceans. And they cancelled it in the 2nd season, with only half of the treasures recovered.

I was also a big fan of 'Just the 10 of Us' but I won't go into that, fearing ridicule.

You won't get any from me-I LOVED that show. Man, I loved me some Jamie Luner...

And I was a fan of "Action!", too, but it's unfortunate that they killed off Jay Mohr's character at the end of the show, ending ANY debate on whether or not it would show up on cable later.

edit: And let me throw a shout to NBC's Coupling, not because I enjoyed it or anything, but because it was SO bad that I went in search of the British original to find out what the big deal was, and wound up discovering one of my favorite sitcoms ever.

Sledgehammer...Last episode he blows up the world...Greatness

The Tick (both animated and live action)

Herman's Head

Married with Childern

Animation: The Family Guy (duh), Futurama (also duh), Bionic Six, The New Adventures of Johnny Quest (Yes CGI sucked, but the stories weren't half bad), Daria, 2 Stupid Dogs (anyone remember the original theme song?), Freakazoid!, and Dungeons & Dragons.

Ahhh, the memories.

Here's some beloved shows yet to be mentioned:

Keen Eddie-I just really dug this show, and I think FOX only showed 7 episodes over the summer before it got canned. It's too bad really, the show's pretty good. I never really liked that whole Guy Ritchie Snatch/Lock Stock style, but i think it worked really well on this show. Sienna Miller is a beautiful woman, and I will never forgive Jude Law for dumping his beautiful wife then picking up the beautiful Sienna Miller. Fuck Jude Law. Bravo is now showing all 13 episodes of Keen Eddie, and I think Paramount is going to release a DVD set eventually.

Freakazoid-this is probably one of the best, most brilliant animated series or television series period. The writing was excellent and the voice work even better. I love Paul Rugg as Freakazoid, Ed Asner as Sgt. Mike Cosgrove, David Warner as the Lobe, Flounder as Fanboy, and of course KHAN! as ARMONDO GUITIERREZ! "I AM NOT A WEENY! YOU ARE THE WEENY! DON'T START WITH THE WEENY WORD!" I think the schmuck named Jamie Kellner dumped this show after its second season AND ONLY 24 EPISODES total for the piece of crap show HYSTERIA. Fuck Jamie Kellner, fuck the WB network, fuck Hysteria, and fist-fuck Jamie Kellner in his eye socket for good measure. Where's the DVD set for Freakazoid? Snap to it Spielbergo, Indy 4 ain't happening poopskah, you got the time.

Earthworm Jim-also cancelled after its second season along with Freakazoid. Probably not as brilliant, but I always got a kick out of Homer Simpson playing the one and only Jim belting out "Groovy's" and "EAT DIRT! EVERYONE IN THE VICINITY!"

Invasion America-I really dug this show. It was basically a primetime animated drama, and it was very well written and had some good animation, characters, action. I heard the ratings for the first season which was only 6 episodes were very good for their demographic...yet for some reason we never heard of this show again. Well, I'd still buy the DVD if the putzes running Hollywood would get off their duffs and make it.

Batman Beyond-I think they are going to eventually release all 52 episodes on DVD. I was initially turned off by the idea of a Batman of the future and a crotchety old Bruce Wayne guiding a new waspy teen as the new "winged" crusader. However, Dini and his crew's splendid storytelling and great animation won me out pretty quickly especially after the fantastic pilot. It ended after the third season, but I still felt there was a lot more the show could go and there were a lot of loose ends. I wish they could've brought some sort of resolve to the tensions in the Dana/Terry/10 triangle, and we should've seen what Nightwing was up to the last 40 years and what he ended up doing. I would've like to have seen how Terry would handle being Batman as a more mature adult instead of a sometimes whiny teenager. Overall this was probably my favorite Dini/Timm Batman/animated DC series. Especially the Mr. Freeze episode, "Something I had in cold storage."

Breaker High
I used to watch this a lot back in 1998, on YTV. The show had the most ridiculous premise possible - A cruise ship high school.

You forgot the best line of that Mr. Freeze episode: "There might be some momentary discomfort," when delivered in that appropriately icy, emotionless voice. Next to the Joker, Mr. Freeze was probably the best villain in the DCAU (Darkseid and Deathstroke are a close second).

Homicide is my favorite TV show of all time, and I was SO pissed when Court TV quit showing the episodes. I got the first two DVD sets over the holiday season, so at least I've got that to tide me over for a while.

Also: Futurama, Family Guy, The Critic, The Tick, and all the other great animated shows of the last ten or so years. Hey InVerse, good call on Pirates of Darkwater. I don't remember much about it specifically, but I do remember really being into the few episodes I saw.

As for sitcoms: Herman's Head, Whoops! (does anyone else remember this show?), Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Sports Night, Undeclared, Upright Citizens Brigade, and most recently, A Minute with Stan Hooper and Wanda At Large.

Dramas: Picket Fences (pre Shark Jumping), American Gothic, and I know I really liked the first season of Millennium, but kinda lost track of it after that.

Then there were the shows I discoverd post-cancellation in reruns, i.e. Keen Eddie and Profiler.

I thought this was only meant as a mini-series, and that's why you didn't hear of it again? (I still have it on tape, SOMEWHERE; I'd never gotten around to watching it.)

"Breaker High" lives on each and every day on WAM! (part of the Starz! Super Pak). That's a terrifying show. It has that "Saved by the Bell" feature-length PSA look about it.

I'm pretty sure there was an episode with Dick Grayson in it. He was just old and hated Bruce. I can't remember why cause I never really watched that much.

That was the last episode of the first season. They figured they were going to get cancelled, but got picked up for a second season. They had to set season 2 like 5 years in the past. I loved that show.

Not as I remember. I originally read the first season was 13 episodes instead of six. The show ended in a cliffhanger and it said "END OF BOOK 1." Why would it say end of BOOK 1? Obviously they planned to make a BOOK 2.

Beavis and Butthead wasn't cancelled; it came to it's own end, and had a proper finale. But I do agree, I've grown to miss that show. I could rent videos from the show, but the videos don't show the best parts of the episodes: THE MUSIC VIDEO CRITICS :-)

Chalk another vote for Undergrads, too. If anything, the theme was really cool.

I'll echo the votes for Herman's Head, MST3K, Undeclared, Andy Richter, Titus, Daria, Family Guy, Futurama, and ESPECIALLY Sports Night, which I watch in its entirety on DVD at least once a month.

Since I also choose to believe that Farscape basically ceased to exist and became a Farsoap spinoff of itself after about the mid-point of season two (with a watchable episode coming along once every 4 or 5 episodes to keep me from abandoning it), I'll agree there, too.

Others that may've been mentioned and I failed to notice: The Oddities (The Head only, didn't care for Maxx), Sifl'n'Olly, Brimstone (the very best scifi/fantasy series ever, in my view, and yet it only lasted 13 episodes), The Education of Max Bickford, and the two that are probably most embarrassing for a 30 year old male to admit to: My So-Called Life and Out of Order, although both had excellent cliffhanger-esque endings instead of being wrapped up all nice and neat, so I won't gripe much.

That show ruled....It was really terrifying

I loved the fat guy who was always trying to get score chicks and he always screwed it up somehow, they should have just based the show around him and it would have been money (does anyone remember the one where he rapped?!?!)...also, I never understood why everyone on that show had to be "paired off" seriously, if they weren't dating someone you were to believe they should have committed suicide or something

I went to the Neilson's website once (I forget what it is now) looking for the same thing. They said they dont disclose ratings like that because they dont want that information to sway anyone's viewing habits.
