Man, Billy Corgan sounds a bit bitter!

More than three years after the Smashing Pumpkins played their farewell show, former frontman Billy Corgan has taken to his official Web site (http://www.billycorgan.com) to clear the air about the true reasons for the Chicago's band's split.

"I am going to share some things with you that you have never heard me say," he wrote Tuesday. "That doesn't mean I'm rewriting history; that means that I'm going to tell you the truth about who I am and what I believe in my heart. A lot of things that I have said thru the years seemed confusing, like I was hiding something, and oftentimes I was. 'Why,' you might ask. Many times I hid things to protect my band mates."

Corgan said he regrets initially blaming the split on "fighting the good fight against the Britneys of the world." "By saying that, I was seen as someone who was crying foul, taking his ball and going home, which was sad, 'cause it wasn't true at all," he continued. "The truth of the matter is that James Iha broke up the Smashing Pumpkins. Not me, not Jimmy, but James. Did it help that D'arcy was fired for being a mean-spirited drug addict, who refused to get help? No, that didn't help keep the band together, not at all."

That's too bad. The Pumpkins were one of my favorite bands from that early 90's era.

Patriots win another Super Bowl. So much for that idea of a "Curse of Jim Plunkett" book.

The Pumpkins were an odd band. The only one of them who was really good at their instrument was Chamberlain, the songwriting was VERY up-and-down and repetitive, Corgan has one of the worst voices in rock history.....and yet they were still one of my favourite bands. Go figure.

Wait…if it’s MLK Jr. Day AND Pat Patterson’s Birthday…who gets the token win here?-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking on a match between Mark Henry and Rico

MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis?
CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt.
MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…?
CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department.
MH: I know! I’ve got it!
CJ: Got what?
MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!!
CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”?
MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt.
CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say.
MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.

You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT!

I never really got into them, other than 1979, which was played everyplace I went in Europe that summer.

D'arcy was hot, in a non pigmented way though.

Maybe if VH1 decides to do another round of "Bands Reunited" they could try with the Pumpkins?

Eh, they want to impress me? Get the original Pink Floyd back together (Syd Barrett included).

I believe Corgan did all/most of the guitar parts on "Siamese Dream" himself.

Would that then include or disclude David Gilmour?

Years after that statement was made public, (and before I read this article) I didn't believe the argument held any water. I mean, Britney's and Corgan's musics are light years apart in styles; they appeal to much different audiences. I think Billy should have been blaming the Napsters of the world, since (correct me if I'm wrong) Napster was getting really popular around that time.

Yeah, Jimmy Chamberlain is one of the best rock drummers not named Charlie Watts, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, or Stewart Copeland. I thought the guitars on their albums (whoever was playing them) were quite a bit better than just okay, though. I've been heavily addicted to Machina lately, so this is an oddly timed announcement.

I wonder if three years from now we'll find out the real reason why Zwan split up?

An odd statement. When Zwan disbanded, didn't he say something to the effect of "my heart is still with the Pumpkins?"

Include Gilmour. For a brief time, Floyd was a 5-member band.

Why will the Red Sox win it all in 2004?

Just like last year, Amazon MP3 kicks off the coming new year by marking well over a thousand albums down to $5 each. Again, their concept of "Artist A-Z" is different from yours and mine but you'll figure it out if you really want to...
