INDIANAPOLIS - Maurice Clarett has hired an agent, ending any possibility that the running back would return to college next season.
Clarett's attorney, Alan Milstein, said Monday that the former Ohio State star was working with an agent in preparation for this week's NFL combine in Indianapolis, a move that would make him ineligible under NCAA rules. Milstein would not identify the agent.
"He does have one," Milstein said.
On Feb. 5, U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin ruled that an NFL rule barring eligibility to Clarett and other underclassmen from April's draft violates antitrust law.
Last week, Scheindlin refused to suspend her ruling, and Milstein said Clarett would be in the draft.
Clarett ran for 1,237 yards and led Ohio State to a national championship as a freshman in the 2002 season. But the school suspended him before last season for accepting money from a family friend and for lying about it to NCAA and university investigators.
Thank God. Maybe now the Buckeyes can move past this and not have it hang over their heads all next season.
Anybody think that he'll be a late pick, if he's even drafted at all? I can see Oakland drafting, just because that's an Al Davis type of thing to do, but at this point, I see him as no higher than a third rounder.

At the best a late second. He will be taken. If he is as good as he thinks he is, someone will get a steal.
Someone will be stupid enough to draft him in the First Round. If there is GM to draft a kid with a blown out Knee in the Frirst Round Clarett will be.

Battlezone did mention Al Davis and the Raiders you know.
Emphasis/edit in the quote, mine.
In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.
Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

The difference is, of course, was that the kid with the blown out knee had played the year before. And he had a hell of an agent. Maybe if Clarett had signed with Drew Rosenhaus he'd have a shot at the first round.
But Clarett-well, he hasn't played in a year, he wasn't really doing anything to stay in shape last year, there are questions about his ability to hold up an entire season because of his past injuries, and of course, there are the questions about his character.
Plus, you've got guys like Lavar Arrington who's basically said that the veterans are going to spend the next sixteen games making his life a living hell.
I just can't see teams spending a valuable pick on this guy.

The Pats have 4 picks in the first two rounds, and they need a running back. I wouldn't be opposed to taking Clarett with our fourth pick and seeing how he does.

Gugs, do you really think, talent or not, that he has the attitude Belichick is looking for. He just doesn't appear blue collar enough to fit there.
No, if you're New England, you don't take a chance on a guy like Clarett. You're in a damn good spot right now, and with four picks in the first two rounds you have a great chance to cement that. There is no reason to risk bringing in a guy who could create all kinds of distractions that you just don't need when you're making a run at another Super Bowl.
Perfect fit: Davis runs kind of a renegade program there, and the team has a nasty hole at RB (no, Suggs is not the answer). Plus Butch knows he will get CRUCIFIED if he passes on Clarett and he has a big couple of years elsewhere.
As for Clarett's pro future, I see him in the Eddie George/Christian Okoye mold. Unfortunately for backs like them, the NFL stands for Not For Long.
But, if you have been sitting at your house, instead of working out, would you go to a combine and make an ass of yourself? I know I wouldnt. but then again, if I had the intention of going pro the entire time, I would have been running and working out every single day, just to prove I was serious about it.

He's way too full of himself. At first I felt bad that everyone was picking on him and then one thing after another with no real apology from him about any of it and now this. The idiot was laughing and acting like it was no big deal to blow of working out at the combine because he wasn't in good shape.
Fourth round at best unless he puts on the greatest show ever at his personal workout, which isn't gonna happen cause he's not that fast to begin with.

He just doesn't get it, does he?
Actually, very few prospects run the 40 etc. The say Indy is a slow surface. Many choose to show off at their schools and with guys they are familiar with if they are doing passing.
He showed up looking out of shape. He really doesn't get it but why bother, someone will draft him.

Clarrett didn't strike me as being a combine-type player, anyway...he's more a guy that look more impressive on the field than any of his stockyard numbers would ever suggest...IF in fact he's in shape that is.
But then again, he's just a prospect at this point given that he only played one year of college football and had his national spotlight game against a team [Miami] that's always been notoriously bad at stopping the run when it comes up the middle.
And now, it looks like USC's Mike Williams, a sophmore, will also enter the draft (sports.espn.go.com).
I think he's going to benefit more from this than Clarett will. He's easily in the top three of recievers available in the draft.
Most prospects that are guaranteed first round picks don't workout at the combine. Obviously, Clarett thinks that he's going to be one. What kills me is that he shows up seven pounds over his playing weight and everyone acts as if he showed up with a third leg. I mean, *I'm* not in football shape anymore, and *I* could lose seven pounds in a week.

I think the Browns are going to take him too. Which might be a bad sign for Clarett, since the Browns have been pretty awful in the early rounds of the draft in recent years. William Green being one of the flops leaving the hole for Clarett.
Okoye and George may have had the same type of power running style, but they had much different fortunes. Okoye only played six years, only got over a thousand yards tiwce, never played a full sixteen games, and only had 300 carries once. I don't think any team would spend a first or second round pick for a player like that. George has played eight years, been over a thousand yards seven times, never missed a game, never had less than 300 carries, and is one of seventeen players in history to go over 10,000 yards. That is worth a high first rounder. And since Clarett hasn't had a healthy season since junior high, I wouldn't take him in the first round, no matter the talent.
Clarett is a whiny little child who points the finger at everyone else for his problems. Shut the hell up, Maurice. As far as who he will be compared to, I saw Lawrence Phillips. Good look on the Frankfurt Galaxy, Maurice.
