If this happens which i dont think it will they Yankees will not only be the front runner for this year but they will be set up for at least the next 5 years. God I hate the Yankees.
Actually, this going public means its obvious A-Rod is out of Texas before spring training. With the Dodger ownership now finalized, I think by Thursday night A-Rod and Mag Ordonez are in Boston, Manny and money and pitching in Texas, young pitching in White Sox land, and No-Arm in La-La Land.
According to Newsday, The Yankees and Rangers have agreed in principle. Arod and cash for Soriano and a Minor league pitcher. I think I'm gonna throw up.
Just when you think maybe, perhaps, things have changed, everything gets fucked up yet again. Fuck Aaron Boone for blowing out his knee. Fuck Larry Luchiano for opening his mouth and bitching about Texas ownership, thus killing the deal and showing yet again that he's nothing more than a windbag. The call for Grady Little's blood rang through the streets in October. I want Larry Luchiano's blood to flow as well, and for him to be out of town by the end of spring training. Good trade for the Rangers though, at least they get a young bat that can hit 45 home runs in that ballpark at relatively short money for a few years.
Well, so much for my pipe dream of the Blue Jays finishing higher than third this year. Fuck the Yankees.

MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis? CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt. MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…? CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department. MH: I know! I’ve got it! CJ: Got what? MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!! CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”? MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt. CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say. MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.
You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT! --Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking, 1/19/04 Raw Satire
The Yankees are fools if they play Jeter at short over A-Rod though. Complete fools.

If there's any consolation, it's that they still have a bunch of holes that this trade doesn't fix. And now who plays 2B?
...I know, it doesn't make things any better, but I still think we've got the pitching AND hitting to knock 'em off.
DEAN's Nuggets of Wisdom:
"A-Train could wear a Vampirella outfit and I would toast a load to it."
RSN, this isn't Larry Lucchino's fault as much as it is the union's. The Red Sox and Rangers were agreed on a deal, A-Rod was fine with it, everybody LOVED IT. But then the goddamn Player's Union had to step in and say "Oh, no! You're not stealing A-Rod's money! We don't care if A-Rod wants to give the money away; it's because you BRAINWASHED him! Money is more important than winning! Money, money, money!"
And now this deal is gonna go through, even though A-Rod's still gonna lose money "But now it's for NEW YORK! New York is MONEY!"
The first game between the Red Sox and Yankees is on a Friday in April at Fenway. Somebody's gonna DIE if nothing changhes by then.
The deal itself does not really piss me off. We all know that its pitching tha wins in the playoffs and as of this year the sox and MFY are still pretty close. I do have some questions.
1 Will the sox sign Perdo and Nomar. They need to sign At least one of them before the end of spring training or all hell will break loose during this season. Lowe has starting to complian again which is normal for the guy.
2. Did the sox talk to Arod about moving to thrid? All during the winter all I heard is that you dont trade 2 superstars for 1. Could the sox have kept both Nomar and Arod for just this season and then let Nomar walk. Was it even an option.

The BoSox would have been getting two superstars back, because they would have traded for Magglio Orodonez to play left for them. And the Sox didn't need a third baseman at the time, they have the defending AL batting champion there, although he can play second, which was a need for them at the beginning of the year.

Not that great.
Jeter is basically an average defensive shortstop & A-Rod is one of the best in the game. Why they would keep someone with A-Rod's range stuck at 3rd, while leaving Jeter (who stinks moving to his left) up the middle is beyond me...

Hearing everyone talk shit about the Yanks always makes me tingly for opening day, and another decade of Yankee dominance.
As for their holes, I think Suzyn Waldman (yesnetwork.com) has it right on the money, I mean, this lineup is un-fucking-real:
Kenny Lofton Derek Jeter Alex Rodriguez Jason Giambi Gary Sheffield Bernie Williams Hideki Matsui Jorge Posada Enrique Wilson/Miguel Cairo/Paul Bearer/CRZ/Manute Bol
2B....Cairo, Wilson, Almonte...who gives a shit? They can all play at least average defense
The bullpen is strong. Defense is now stronger (Any of the three names at 2B on the Yanks roster are better defensively than Sori, and Giambi is...well....um....healthy?), and as long as Mussina, Brown, Javier, and Leiber (they report he is feeling great/throwing great) are healthy, who the fuck cares who their 5th starter is, assuming they have to give up Contreras, as was at least being reported on WFAN 660 in NYC? Where are the holes that the Yankees have, which are far greater than ANY OTHER TEAM HAS?? Boston has no holes? Oakland? Seattle? Anaheim? Toronto? KC? Minnesota? Puhleeze. With Napole....er, George running the show, the Yanks will enter the post-season with Jose Vidro at 2B or something, and I don't remember when the last time a team's fifth starter was truly relevant in the playoffs.
As an asside, if anyone wants a good laugh, check this link at sportsgoons.com (sportsgoons.com) out. Fuck Clemens anyway. My daughter puked in her bed the other night, and I used my (never warn, got it as a stupid gift) Clemens Yankee shirt to clean it up and get it to the trash.

Patriots win another Super Bowl. So much for that idea of a "Curse of Jim Plunkett" book.
Baseball is a 162 game season, and there is a reason they play all these games. Is this a great deal for NY? Sure. They're insane if they move A-Rod to third and not Jeter, but it's still an improvement.
But they could clone the 1927 Yankees and trot them all out there in the prime of health, and I still wouldn't give up. Obviously, I'm a Sox fan, but I don't think the rest of baseball needs to give up either. (Well, except the AL East, maybe). But the Marlins knocked 'em off last year. And someone else can surely knock them off this year.

No, no, no. Jeter and Posada are two of the most overrated players in baseball. Nomar Garciaparra is the second best shortstop in the Al East (even if the best is playing 3rd base) and Jason Varitek is the best catcher in baseball that isn't playing for a 100-loss team.
EDIT: And one more thing, am I the only one getting a Lakers vibe from these Yankees? They've loaded up on superstars (A-Rod, Vasquez, Brown) but overlooked the little things (2B, bench, bullpen).
(edited by gugs on 15.2.04 0122) Damn that Triple H; damn him straight to Hell!
Ya, know Texas is going to come out of this deal looking pretty sweet. Soriano is a steal and they will eventually trade him or let him go. So they don't have to suffer one bit for their financial irresposibility. I wish I could live that kind of life.
Baseball can only blame baseball for this mess.
Can you blame the Yankees for wanting to pay? Now way, but you can blame baseball for letting a team go this crazy while teams like the Reds and the Brewers sucker tax payers to build stadiums without holding up their end of the bargain of putting out a winner.
The game was so much more fun 10 -15 years ago when I didn't understand all this crap.
I can't wait to see the final numbers about how much Texas is paying for A-rod. From what I hear (64M) I would be pissed that if I was a Texas fan.
The MFY still have no bench at all. But I have no doubt that they will pick up one or two big name players at the deadline. I still like the Sox pitching as long as Pedro is health come playoff year. You know there is good chance that the sox can win over 100 games and still be 10-15 behind the MFY. Thank good for the wild card.
The order of the rotaions does not mean much these days. Plus you want Wakefield to be able to eat up innings after a Pedro start because he cant go more than 7 innings now-a-days.
